˝But I guess you are still my teacher… Can I add a clause in the contract, so that she isn't allowed to curse…˝
˝Weaken.˝ The fairy interjects.
˝Fine, so she can't weaken or try to rape me!˝ I glare since the interjection was gnawing on my last nerves.
˝Done! Vanir, go add it in!˝ He commands Vanir.
Vanir quickly finds the contract and writes it in with a special pen.
˝Now you two put your hands on the contract and say I agree.˝ He tells us.
˝I agree.˝ Jhanandra sighs and puts her hand on top of it. I mimic her and the contract starts to glow. The sentences written on it were fused with the paper as if they were there from the start.
˝The contract is updated. Do you have anything else to ask?˝ The fairy asks.
I think for a moment to get the most out of this.
˝Firstly, are you the guild master?˝
˝Yes, I am the master of the cleric guild in Willowshade city. My name is Stargazer Petalshine.˝
˝So men are generally travelers and adventurers? So why do women have to court the men? Just for marriage?˝
˝Well as travelers and adventurers, some men make really bad or stupid choices. They often also participate in wars because of their pride, fun or money. That increases the death rate of men by a significant amount. So if women want to be married and continue their lineage, they have to be proactive and get a man to stay with them. Leaving your wife is a stigma that will follow you to any city you go and all women would be quite hostile to you.˝
˝So raping a man can legally rope him in and it would be dishonorable to not marry her?˝ I give a stink eye to Jhanandra. She just turns away and whistles.
˝Well yes, but actually no. Only the ones who don't know the law actually marry out of their fear. But if you go to the court, you can press your hand on the Eye of truth. It's a crystal ball that shows your memories of a selected timeframe. If you can prove that you were unwilling, she can get a punishment and has to abort the child if you so wish. The woman would also have rumors floating about her, so men will avoid her as top priority.˝ He explains carefully, so I get the whole picture.
We all turn to look at my shameless teacher.
˝So she decided to risk it, since she already had nothing to lose?˝ I comment.
˝Uggghh…. Nonono, that's not…˝ She collapsed as if she was hit by a crossbow bolt.
˝She has been single for 120 years, that's why she was crazily studying holy magic. So she can become so sought after as a healer that men would come flocking to her.˝ Stargazer says.
She tried to pick herself up, but was done even more damage.
˝But she is so picky that she is rude to everyone besides the ones that catch her eye. But most of them ran away faster than she could hit them with a slow.˝ Vanir adds.
˝But I…˝ She starts hitting her head against the floor.
˝Plus, she is a virgin.˝ Stargazer dealt the last blow.
She curls up holding her legs, sobbing on the floor with lifeless eyes.
With our three way attack done, we face each other again.
Alright, I think she suffered enough damage for now. If I need something, can I ask Vanir or should I come here?˝
˝Just ask Vanir, if he can't do it he will send you to me.˝ Stargazer waves his hand.
˝Thank you for your help and the information. Can I take her home? I don't think she can do anything in her current form.˝ I look at the sobbing mess and sigh.
˝Fine, get some rest since it was quite hectic. Vanir, give him her address since he will also live there from now on.˝ Stargazer says to Vanir, who quickly writes down the address and instructions.
I take the paper and walk to the half dead mess of a teacher. I pick her up over my shoulder and walk out of the room.
˝So are you going to keep an eye on him, so that we don't lose him?˝ Vanir ask Stargazer after we left.
˝Yes. But more importantly, keep an eye for everyone who was today in the hallway. This information cannot leave this place.˝ He orders.
….
I'm walking through the streets of Willowshade, while looking at the paper in my hand. But as I go, a path opens up in front of me as I attract weird gazes.
Well how can I not, when I am carrying Jhanandra over my shoulder like a sack of potatoes, while she is sobbing miserably.
'I'm surprised no one has tried to stop me yet.'
˝Hey, where are you carrying that elf?˝ A voice behind me asks.
I turn around and see a certain annoying pixie.
˝Oh, it's one of the new guys? But what is with this situation?˝ Silver asks.
I look at him with uninterested eyes.
˝I am carrying my teacher home because she got a trauma. Can you tell me which one of these streets is Lime street?˝
˝…Yes it's that one.˝ His eyes sharpened at my nonchalant expression and pointed at a street.
˝Thank you. Now if you don't mind, I have to go. Bye bye!˝ Before he can speak further I start to jog. I don't want to deal with this bastard at all.
Silver just stares at my back and continues to patrol with his cronies.
After a few minutes I find the branch house on her address and start to rummage through her pockets, so I find her keys.
But I can't find it anywhere on her.
˝Alright, where would I hide the keys if I were her…? She will keep it on her, because she regularly keeps her research at home… Somewhere where no one would want or was willing to take them from her…˝ I looked at her body up and down and an idea presented itself.
Without hesitation I reach my hand between her breasts and touch something hard. I pulled it out, to discover it was a key.
Jhanandra regained some of her lucidity and was about to say something until she heard me mutter to myself.
˝Yep, no one will steal it from the boobs of a virgin everyone avoids…˝
This was the last arrow that struck her heart. She fainted from depression, but I didn't notice.
I pick her up, unlock the door and carry her inside.
But as I enter… should I be even surprised?
Her apartment was made from five rooms. The walls are wooden since it's the inside of a branch.
She has a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, study room and a living room. But everywhere I look, it's cluttered with scrolls, weird materials, items, dirty laundry and dishes.
˝So I'm going to be living in this shithole? This is going to be annoying. Guess I'll be sleeping in the living room.˝ I carry the idiot and throw her onto her bed.
After that I cleaned up the living room by shoving the materials, scrolls and items into the study room, placing the dishes into the sink and throwing the dirty clothes on top of the sleeping Jhanandra.
˝Tomorrow we are having a cleaning day, because I ain't living in this pigsty.˝ I grin malevolently at the sleeping elf.
My stomach grumbles reminding me that we didn't have lunch yet. I go out and bring back some food from the market and sit down on the couch with my books.
I look over the four books and fall in thought on what I should learn first.
˝I should decide which book I should read first. It probably should be 'Wounds, diseases and how to treat them' first, so I have some idea on what I'm doing…
But 'Races of the world and their anatomy' would also help a lot, since healing works a bit differently depending on the race…
'Materials and their healing properties' can wait, since it's not as important in less serious cases…˝
But then my eyes wander over the book 'Self defense arts' and a shiver runs down my spine remembering today's events.
˝Alright, self defense gets top priority, especially with all those perverts knowing about my mana core!˝ I take the book and start reading it.
The book was split into three parts:
They are unarmed self defense, defense with a staff and lastly aggressive self defense.
The unarmed self defense is self explanatory. It teaches throws, locks, grappling and other moves that lets you fend off opponents with your hands.
The defense with the staff shows a lot of techniques that are effective for disarming and disabling the opponents with minor or harder blows.
The aggressive self defense is the battlefield version using a shield and a mace. It's quite unpopular since clerics don't usually like this fighting style, but it is very effective.
The point is on blocking blows with the shield and using your mace to break limbs or do major trauma to the opponents, disabling their fighting power in a few swift blows, so you can defend yourself from the next attacker.
˝Hmmm… They are all good styles, but learning only one would do nothing much. You have to be prepared in any situation and any amount of enemies… Unarmed locks and throws… disarming and hitting with a staff… Quick incapacitation with powerful blows… Wait, thought it would take time I could combine the three! This way even if I join to fight, I won't be depending on the protection of others!˝
˝Tomorrow, the clerics will have a fun time staring at me hahahaha!˝ The idea dawned on me causing a grin to form on my face.
I leave for one last time for an hour. Then I continue to read the books until I fall asleep.
