The series is the story of commanding rule of proteas over the Caribbeans.West Indies had nothing to reply on proteas who pounced like power lightening and destroyed the West Indies pace battery attack. The series was being played just before the world cup 2015 and it was played between the West Indies and South Africa. In the first one day at kingsmead, DURBAN Faf du plessis and Riley Rousseau, went back to the pavilion on duck.
But, afterwards, nothing went special for the Caribbean way.Nice good poundings by Hashim Amla-66, AB DE VILLIERS scoring 81
and David Miller scoring 70, made Proteas reach 279 runs/8 wickets in their quota of 50 Overs. On the counter attack, Chris Gayle started with a bang of 24 ball 41 runs, getting 5 boundaries, 2 sixes, but this was not enough in front of the South African pace battery attack.
Dale steyn, Vernon Philander and Emraan Tahir taking 3 wickets each restricted Caribbeans to 164. As the next game started, nobody knew that the history is going to be created at the Wanderer,s stadium at Johannesburg. Openers, Amla and Rousseau started with centuries, recording 247 for the first wickets. When in 39th over, Rousseau got out, 69 balls were remaining.
BELIEVE ME, WHAT HAPPENED, 192 runs were scored in these 69 deliveries. Caribbeans were getting pounded all across the field with runs coming in floods. Jerome Taylor was hit for 95 and skipper, Jason Holder was hit for 91 in 10 overs each. This was done by none other than Mr 360 ,A B De Villiers who came to Bat in the 39th over and scores a century. The star batsman hit his century in 31 balls, fastest ever in the history of the ODI cricket. The man scored 149 off 44
balls. Coming in the 39th over, scoring a century and batting till the last Ball of the innings.In return, West Indies could score only 291/7. In order to remain in the series, Caribbeans were required to win the third ODI at the buffalo park,East London.But it was not ought to be done. In front of Emraan Tahir and Vernon Philander, Caribbeans were all out for 122 batting first.Proteas won by nine wickets.
In the fourth ODI, SA gave rest to their main players, but this was enough for the West Indies to win the match.Hashim Amla,Dale steyn, Philander and Tahir were replaced by
Van Weyk,Kyle Abott, Parnell and Aron phangiso. South African batsmen scattered in front of Cottrell and Holder. Even then,Killer Miller, slowly and steadily reached to 130 and because of him South Africa could reach 259.
In the fifth match, Proteas returned back with their key players. In a match, reduced to 42 overs each side, South Africa scored 361 in 42 overs with centuries of Hashim Amla and Riley Rousseau especially who hit 132 off 98
deliveries hitting 9 fours and 8 sixes. The way these players were increasing the run rate it was looking as if a new world record is going to be created at the ground of Centurion.
Then, Caribbean team tumbled on 230 all out.
Because target was looking impossible.
This series will always be remembered for the courage and bravery of the South Africa team.
