Chapter 5 - Search

Vincent and the rest of his crew marched at sunrise when visibility was the best,

They each had a rope bound to their waist and daisy chained in a line, though the visibility was bad they were able to follow the foot steps to the place where Avian has disappeared,

Damian was in the lead followed by Conner and then the rest of the caravan while Vincent took care of the rear,

With every step Damian uncertainty grew and so did his anxiousness,

Connor grumbled and asked,

"Hey Damian boy, just want to get a clearer picture of what happened .. "

"And what do you care to know .. " replied Damian curtly

"Come on boy I am not judging but I just want to know where you were when Avian disappeared"

Connor face flattened with a wide grin,

"I was with the pig ..

He had to go take a piss"

"Is that so .."

Conner smile deepened and his eyes were in the shape of a crescent,

"And where were you ? .."

"I was sleeping as were everyone else, it was both of your shift to guard "

Vincent lent his ear to the conversation in the front and had a thoughtful look on his face,

As if something was tingling his senses at the back of his mind,

=====

Sweet Meridia oh great Septemus, powerful Agnis, aloft Crytonus, Kind Avintus and and merciful Korna,

any God there is, please listen to this sinners plea and let me die in one piece

I prayed in anguish as the sloshy monster enveloped me, if I knew this was going to be my end I would have fought my brother to death for Dalia, oh beautiful Dalia, I cant believe I am going to die without tasting your fruit,

I wish everyone who found happiness in marriage die a spiteful death, though I am not a virgin I was plagued with bad relationships, and no child to carry on my legacy,

Is this how Avian the great meets his end,

...

Suddenly everything went blank,

I can't feel my body anymore, everything is numb,

I cant even orient myself, am I upside down am I downside up ?

Is this how death feels

- pretty close but not quite ..

I see I see then I am not dead ...

Wait ..

Who ????

Angel of death, the grim reaper, or god of judgment ??

No wait by your words I do not seem to be dead yet,

- You ..

- talk too much ..

I get that a lot actually, Vincent once had to give me some weird potion that made me mute when we had to escort some noble hotshot,

wait that is not what I should be talking about,

what are you, who are you, am I going to die

- Who we are .. we forgot however, we know that there is no saving you, not at our current state

"we" ?

Are you some royal ? I was told that some royals speak that way, I mean if they are not plenty how do they use that pronoun ?

- Royal .. questionable, plenty that is true ..

Wow, I never met someone who is plenty, or .. some people who are plenty ... that is still wrong to say,

- listen, talkative one,

I am all ears mam, sir .. sorry I mean Ladies and gentlemen ..

Is there an easier way to call you,

- You can simply use "you" ..

- We offer you one of two options ..

=====

After almost a full day of searching around the mud pit, Vincent's Crew was over taken by fatigue and started marching back to camp before sun sets, all their efforts in finding the missing people went to vain,

"I can't believe we are going back without finding them .. "

Conner seems to be pretty upset, however, staying longer in the mist will only put us in more danger, but there is something that is bugging me,

What ever hypnotized them, can it really control any person, if so why is it not taking control of the rest of us, there has to be a catch, otherwise we would not be standing like this,

Vincent was deep in thought when strong tremors hit the ground, everyone lost their footing and started falling into a newly formed ground cavity,

In one swift swing, Conner cut the rope between him and Damian, as he and the rest of the caravan fell into the hole,

Damian looked in shock at his comrades who fell and left him all by himself on the surface,

"Are you guys alright ?? " called Damian,

Soon enough Vincent regained his bearings and answered back

"we seem to be alright, however by the looks of it, climbing back up this muddy pit is not an option"

As Vincent was speaking Conner and the rest of the caravan were already attempting to climb the muddy walls with no avail,

Conner shouted on top of his lungs,

"listen Damian boy, there should be some ropes back in the camp, I think you better off getting them with some of the horses to pull us out .. "

"you guys want me to go by my self when we are in this kind of situation??"

Conner retorted back,

"unless you have any other plan, I am all ears"

Sigh,

things are just getting worse over and over again,

"Damian, be careful if you sense anyone rush back here, the camp might be dangerous for you alone, so if you sense anything rush back here and we will figure another way out of this"

..

"Alright .. "

whilst Damian made his way to the camp, we started to look around the cavity for another alternative way out,

=====

"Fuck, I can't believe it, how convenient is that a pit that appears out of nowhere,

And I have to go back to the camp by my self, its all that damn things fault, "

'On my way to the camp I was fuming with anger, nothing went right since we set off in this trip, even though we did it multiple times but when it comes to that thing, then it might just be .. no at this point its quite certain this is not on the level of the coincidence any more'

Damian reached the camp however he never let his guard down, he had his bow out and ready to engage if anything comes at him,

he made his way to the cargo and rummaged thorough the crates looking for a rope that is long enough to get the rest out of the pit,

Damian movements suddenly stopped and he started looking at one of the horses,

He left the cargo carriage and and walked towards the horse,

Holding the horse reins, he had a troubled look on his face, as if he is contemplating something,

He whispered to himself,

"Shit, do I even have enough time"

his train of thoughts then was cut by the sound of faint footsteps on the muddy ground.
