Looking at the quest form, sweat started to roll off him.
He really just jack a quest from the Guild without knowing. This just meant that the vampire was well known in the village. He sighed and walked into the Guild Hall. He noticed that Shun was still at the entrance and he showed him the Quest form. "Uh… I already did this one without knowing it. Long story." He said. Shun was surprised and took the form. "I see, well… you completed the quest regardless… although, I am surprised that you were able to complete a three star quest all by yourself."
"It wasn't by myself." Arnum thought.
"Don't worry about ruining the fun for everyone. You should have a reward coming pretty soon." Shun added.
"Oh, by the way, you need a party every time you have a quest. Unless you're seen as incredibly strong." He said. Arnum nodded and grabbed him by the shoulder. "You're in my party, then."
"Wait what?"
"Yep."
"Why me?"
"Because I said so."
Shun sighed, he scratched the back of his head. After a bit more thinking, he nodded. Arnum smiled but Shun stopped him before he went back to the quest board. "You need a third person." Arnum sighed, annoyed that he couldn't get some action as soon as possible. He wanted to explore the place to understand everything as best as he could before things had gotten dicey. The duo went back into the hall and looked around for potential members. Arnum looked over at Shun. "You know anyone who could help us out?" He asked. Shun shook his head. "Everyone I know already has themselves dedicated to a party."
"I am surprised that you even agreed to joining me. I expected this to be harder for me." He said. Considering that Arnum was a bit of a nerd back home, he had read countless stories and played a couple games where someone who started out had trouble finding someone to join their party. Sometimes it would take days for them to even find one person to join them. Shun joining him gave him hope for the future but after thinking it over, he remembered that he said everyone he knew was already in a party. But Shun looked like he had been in the Guild for quite a while. "Don't you have a party?" Shun shook his head in response to the question. "I'm more of a freelancer. I join parties when people don't have one starting out. The White Manes used to do that but after a while because they thought it would be good for building trust in the Guild members but people just started to keep to a specific party. That's when the rule that a party needs to consist of a team of three. But they made an exception specifically for me. I still don't know why though." He explained.
"What are the White Manes?" Arnum asked and they walked through the Guild Hall.
"... That's the name of the Guild." Shun said, embarrassed to even have to explain when he thought back to how the front of the Guild Hall had a massive symbol of a white spirit in front of a black shield and white swords. He sighed. "Oh, I almost forgot. Do you know your class yet? It should've been added to your license."
Class? This is becoming even more like an RPG. At this point he was waiting for a status screen to open up in front of him with an inventory and all that. Arnum pulled out his license and Shun did the same. He turned it over to show Arnum. "See? My class is Paladin. They are seen for their defensive skills and their offensive capabilities at the same time. We have a few other Paladins in the Guild. Same with people like Assassins, Mages, Knights, Martial Artists, stuff like that." He kept on explaining while Arnum looked at the license. He noticed that all his information like his name and age were moved down and something began to appear just below his name.
Class:
It seemed that they were in the process of writing his class as he looked at his card. He then looked over to see that the card did indeed have set parameters for himself. But there was no option to put stat points into them to make him stronger. Maybe this was just to show his strengths and weaknesses to people? He should ask someone about this other than Shun since he seemed to still be talking about something even now. He mentioned something about special classes that only one in a million can have. There was another thing about the occasional raids that the entire Guild had to go out to take on. "Are there other Guilds?" Arnum asked. Shun nodded. "Mhm. I don't know the names but I know where they are located. One is in Eden, one is in Yggrasil, another in Narya, and the last is in Alkhein." He said. Arnum was interested in looking at the other Guilds that were around in this world. To him it could be a big adventure to see what the rest of them are like. Arnum looked back down to his license and noticed that something began to be written down. His eyes widened. An alarm suddenly went off, making a few beeps before someone's voice started to announce something.
"Adventurer Arnum Kurei has been assigned the special class of Black Knight."
Arnum looked back down at his license, and what she said was right. For a second he thought his mind was playing tricks on him. He thought he would at least get a class like swordsman or knight, but instead he got a special class? Arnum looked at Shun who appeared to be awestruck. His eyes had widened like Arnum's and he could see a twinkle in his eye. Arnum put away his license and Shun grabbed him by the shoulders. He began to shake him back and forth. "You have no idea how lucky you are! You have a special class! This means that a bunch of people might come up and form a party with you!" Shun had claimed, and sure enough that did come true. A crowd of people surrounded him, all of them asking for him to join their party. So much happened at once that he couldn't think straight. The noise was too much to bear so he drew his sword and stabbed it into the ground. The shock of seeing a sword drawn had stopped everyone. They did not dare make a single noise, a single inch of movement. It was as if time had stood still as not even a breath was made. Arnum sighed and looked at Shun. "Before I start talking to everyone… is there an arena we can use somewhere?" He asked. Shun nodded. "Y-yeah. One of our attendants, Erick, is able to use special magic to send us to it. Why?"
Arnum looked at everyone. "I don't want to just choose someone at random. If so many of you really want to join my party, then you will all just have to fight for the spot. It's that simple. I don't want someone to hold me back so I need to see if someone is able to pull their load and stand by my side, not drag behind my feet, got it?" He said, pulling his sword from the ground. No one moved. He expected a few people to leave because of what he said. He thought someone would tell him to take something out of his hindquarters or get off his high horse. But everyone here seemed to really want him in his party. He did not even understand the meaning of what a Black Knight was and everyone seemed to know it like it was on the back of their hand. Arnum had Shun contact the attendant. He appeared after a few minutes of them talking because of that spatial magic he had. He was skeptical about all of this but all he could really do was assist and watch. He was just a man wearing a long cloak with a hood barely covering his face. He had fair skin, long red hair, and green eyes. From the bags under his eyes he did not seem like a person who got enough sleep at night every day. He opened a black portal in the middle of the room, and he stepped in. Everyone followed and they all appeared in the middle of a large stadium in the middle of a mountain range. Arnum saw it as a bit much for a Guild residing in a village. He shrugged and walked in front of the large group of people. "Okay… I'm gonna be honest and say I didn't expect everyone to be here at once. So instead of fighting… just talk to me one at a time. Then, the people that I choose can fight me one on one and that person who wins or keeps up with me in a certain amount of time and be my last party member?" Suddenly all authority he had was lost when it came to how he announced everything and the way he spoke. The crowd agreed to this. Someone with creation magic produced two chairs and a table from the sand beneath their feet. One chair for Arnum, and the other chair for the person he spoke with. He looked at all the people and finally realized that this seemed to be too many people for him to talk to. Although, he did not mind it as it just meant that he could know some people on his first day. It seemed to be a little after four o'clock so he did not see a problem talking to as many people as possible before nightfall.
NOTE: To keep with my promise last chapter, future chapters will end up being around 1,500 to 2,000 words so I may be able to put out mkre chapters efficiently with the same amount of quality that the previous chapters possess. I am still trying to work on my pacing so please bear with me. This is to make it easier on myself and for you readers who don't want to read so much at once and enjoy more of this. If there is something any of you wish to say about this then feel free to say it and I'll be glad to reply.
