Chapter 4
The halls were just the same as before so I took a few different turns, but I was trying my hardest to remember each room. One room with a domed ceiling that was covered in paintings of the goddesses, had two parallel dark green velvet sofas that I decided to take a break on. Malum had told me that it would be okay to walk around, as long as I would stay close to the room. So I lay on the sofas and rested while looking at the beautiful paintings.
I must of fallen asleep because Ray was shouting in my ear when i woke up,
"Victoria what are you doing in this part of the building?! You can't come in this wing of the castle, it's for nobility members and the royal family ONLY!!!!! How did you even make it through security?"
"Umm, well… I didn't see any security. And i didn't see any signs warning me not to go over here, so I just kinda wandered," he was still gripping my shoulders, like he was when he woke me up.
"Well i guess you are lucky you didn't walk in on one of the meetings being held right now, ha! Then you'd be in real trouble!" anything coming from him can seem like a joke, but he looked completely serious.
"A-alright, I didn't know!"
"Fine, I will help you escape, the meeting is about to end so these halls will be full,"
"Well there aren't many places to hide…"
"True. well we just have to avoid getting seen to the best of our ability! If you were to get caught it would be a disaster!"
For the next five minutes we crept down hallways and around corners in complete silence. I can't tell if he was overreacting or if he was completely serious, i found it hard to believe that anyone could find us in this maze. Actually I was starting to wonder if we would make it out ourselves! Ray still was not saying more than two words at a time.
"Here," or "over here," or "this way!" though, once he did say, "will you walk quieter?! We will be found!" and I think that he is just a really talented actor, if not that then i guess he has SIRIUS mood swings.
A large group of Nobility walk on the other side of the wall and me and Ray simultaneously hold our breaths. Not even looking at each other we sat there for a minute to let them pass. Before they were out of earshot, the unmistakable sound of footsteps got louder. Ray and I give eachother a glance, as to say, "did you make a noise?! Are they coming back?!" But then I knew what had happened. When I was in the human realm, I avoided confrontation and all human interaction at all costs.
I knew when I was being followed.
