Shen Chen flung his hand away, turned around and went ahead. After a few steps, Mu Bai grabbed her wrist tightly in his hand again.
"Chen, listen to me!" He sounded desperate, eyes red. "I know, it was my selfishness that brought us here today. It was my bad… Chen…"
"I'm back now and just hoping that you would give me another chance to right my wrong."
Another chance? One corner of her lips curled up in a smirk. "You want me to give you another chance; has anyone given me a chance?"
Four years ago, a woman in a mink coat showed up at her door, throwing a stack of money at her face, asking her to find somewhere else to exist. Did anyone give her a chance? When the woman dumped a pail of icy water down her head, did anyone give her a chance? When the entire world pointed fingers at her, calling her a shameless whore, did she get a chance?
No. An unremarkable woman like her should have nothing to do with those wealthy families. She wanted nothing to do with those freaking moneyed people. Even though this man in front of her kept telling her he still cared about her, that he could not forget her, she was not going to get into the murky waters again.
Shaking off his hand, she kept going.
Mu Bai froze, his hands still in the air, kicking himself for the mistake he had made in the past. His heart told him not to give up going after her, but his legs felt heavy as if they were restrained by a ball and chain. Rooted to the spot, he watched as she disappeared into the darkness. She seemed so familiar, yet so strange.
It felt terribly lonely to walk alone in the dark of night. Shen Chen reached for her eyes, surprised to find them already welling up.
Sh*t! Was she crying?
Suddenly, she heard the loud blare of a horn, followed by beams of harsh bright light coming from the front, blinding her. A car stopped in front of her with the headlights on. She raised her hands to cover her eyes, trying to block off the damn blinding light as she went. Just when she looked up, she banged her head into a wall of muscles.
Appearing before her was a handsome face at close range. He had a devilish look and yet good-looking and very domineering, yet he looked like a sh*thead with that smile. Shen Chen got conscious and bounced three steps back away from him.
"Are you crying?" Shi Yu had spotted tears in the corners of her eyes. He squinted at her with his flagrantly teasing, enchanting dark eyes.
"None of your business." Shen Chen wiped her tears away, voice icy cold.
The stubborn and prideful woman looked like a fine wine. Shi Yu started to find her more and more interesting, so much so that he wanted to savor her slowly.
Looking at her, he grinned. "Which guy dumped you?"
"Are you tailing me?" Shen Chen got worked up.
"You two were just being too obvious. I accidentally saw you when I passed by." In fact, Shi Yu did not hear what they were talking about. He did not even see the man's face, but just his back.
Shen Chen glared at him. "Accidentally? How can you still have the nerve to say it!"
She wanted to leave, but Shi Yu grasped her wrist. His charming face lit up in an audaciously arrogant smile.
Shen Chen was flustered. With no hesitation, she raised her hand to give him a slap on his face.
