Chapter 3 - Strange Hero...

Kai, "Colin?" His face was a ghostly white all she said was someone in black saved her what was the big deal? His chest was aching as his stomach squirmed, was it really that time already...

Colin, "I see, I know he saved you I also know things like this mean a lot to you but please Kai...leave this alone" Her eyes watched a very proud neat freak transform into a small insecure boy, was he really begging her not to go.

Kai, "Um...okay~ what's wrong with you? Why are you so concerned about what I do in my free time." Colin felt that small stab in his heart when Kai said things like this it was like an invisible barrier between them. It was also a harsh reminder that only Bobby could control her.

Colin, "Because right now I'm your guardian, if Bobby was here he would say the same so for once in your life listen to me!" He bit his lips as her face turned cold, shouting was something he rarely did because Kai would turn on him for losing his temper. Yet another one of her defensive anxieties.

Kai, " Your going to stop me? I want to say thank you I don't see such a big issue." Kai threw on her leather jacket on top of her hoodie threw on her black boots and stormed out of the clinic clearly on a mission to find her rescuer.

Colin, "Dammit, it's too soon." He muttered before pulling out a cellphone, this was strange because connections were cut for the public safety as holders began tracking calls. His fingers trembled as he dialed his emergency contact.

Colin," D-Director...it's time."

Park-----------------------------------

Kai looked around wearily there was no sign of people so maybe it was a good scoping spot, her grey hood hung over her face, maybe he would recognize her from that night. It was really quiet for noon so she felt slightly on edge. Time was ticking and she was getting impatient when a tallboy and a young girl walked up to the park. Kai didn't really recognize them even though she practically had met every member of this community.

Young Girl, "Sammy push me!" The little girl was cute, she had black curly hair with a red bow that matched her little plait dress. And her companion looked about her age, he was pretty muscular and tanned complete with black think hair and emerald green eyes that shone in the sunlight.

Boy, "Do you like coming out?" Kai could hear them clearly.

Young Girl, "Yeah! I don't like that dark house it's boring there." The boy showed a troubled smile, why did it sound like they were recluses? Kai pondered for a while when a little memory came back to her from her childhood when she was six a boy used to visit her and he was called...Sam.

Kai, "No way..." She whispered but startled when Sam's head turned abruptly in her direction.

Sam, "Jamie get close to me." Without a whine, she jumped off the swing and darted behind him. Kai put her hand over her mouth why did it feel like she was seeing something she shouldn't. The whole atmosphere was now shadowed eerily.

Jamie, "What is it, Sammy?" He didn't answer and began edging closer to Kai's position, she was busted here what should she say? A man in black saved her and now she was stalking him?

Sam, "Come out, your clearly one of them. What business do you have with us?" Kai froze what did he mean one of them? It was scary how intense the atmosphere was almost like he was ready to pounce on her. Seeing she was going to have to stand up her hands went up and sheepishly she raised her head.

Jamie, "Woah it's an angel!" Sam stood there bewildered for a few seconds.

Sam, "Kai?" Her eyes lit up, he really remembered the young girl he couldn't touch without getting attacked. Jamie ran over and grabbed hold of Kai's hand. Sam flinched as she smiled clearly happy about something.

Kai, "It's been a long time Sam." He also let a soft expression fill his eyes, so Kai never forgot either.

Sam, "It sure has you look really different now, it's pretty edgy." She smirked, he was pretty cheeky when they were kids too. Still, those green piercing eyes hadn't changed one bit.

Kai, "Yeah I changed a lot, so have you your not as scrawny as I remember you. Where have you been all this time?" Sam itched his head nervously maybe Kai shouldn't have mentioned it, surely he had his own reasons.

Sam, "Things sometimes take a sharp turn so I took some time for myself." Talk about vague she thought. Kai slowly walked over and sat on the children's climbing frame. Jamie was still standoffish but gradually began warming up, Sam, on the other hand, seemed so cold and guarded nothing like the spirited little boy she used to know.

Kai, "I get that but it doesn't change the fact that I've been wondering about you for almost ten years not even knowing if you were alive, things ended badly the last time we got together but... you didn't have to leave me. I don't bite anymore, I don't hurt people like that." Sam looked conflicted his watery green eyes looked down in confusion.

Sam, "You remember what happened the last time we were together?" Kai scrunched her eyebrows and nodded, why wouldn't she? It was the setting stage of her nickname. Sam gave Jamie a warning look and almost like roll-call she nodded and ran off. Who even was this kid anymore, there was something off with all of this. Kai could feel a lump in her throat as the sweat-soaked her palms, would this be a fight? Could she really fight him?

Sam, "Tell me exactly what you remember the last night we were together." This sudden robotic freak was really doubting her, it wasn't as if she blocked out every bad situation Kai was stronger than that. He sat down on the swing precariously looking at her.

Kai, "Um, it was November and you'd been really sick so you popped by the clinic for pain relief. I was eight you were ten at the time. We hit it off and spent all of our time together, you were like a big brother to me." Sam rattled the swing chain and shook his head rudely, as if their kinship didn't matter didn't matter.

Sam, "I mean that day not how we met, what do you remember about that day?" It was slightly painful hearing him brush off their friendship, At one point they were almost attached at the hip.

Kai, "Fine. That day you were sicker than usual, you kept having migraines and nosebleeds so I decided to take you to the clinic. I was carrying you on my shoulder when we both got a bad pain in our head, we both collapsed in the back street and I blacked out for a while and when I woke up you were..." Kai trailed off as her face went pale, that night was more than just passing out. Sam looked mortified as he watched her brain begin to fill in the gaps.

Kai, "They said...they said to you..." A small tear escaped her eye as a memory came flooding back. It changed everything and Sam knew it. All of a sudden her life flashed back to that night when they were kids.

---------------------6 Years Previous-------------------------------

Sam's curly black hair and bright green eyes that shone in the dark. Her long blonde hair and blue eyes darting for the best course of action. Their breath was heavy and they were in pain. Bright flashes of agonizing white kept creeping inside their brains.

Sam, "Kai just leave me please, don't touch me!" He was whining so desperately yet how could she leave him, what sort of friend did that? No, she would get him to Bobby and Colin they would know what to do. Suddenly his grip pried away from her hand and he fell to the floor.

Kai, "What are you doing! You need help Sam your bleeding." Sam sighed, he wasn't the only one bleeding but her kind soul was in such a panic she didn't realize her nose was also gushing blood. She simply wiped it on her jacket and picked him back up. Kai had never seen him in so much pain, she was also lightheaded and struggling to stand.

Sam, "Kai you're making it worse go away!" Frustrated she let him sink to the ground panting heavily.

Kai, "I'll run and get Bobby, stay here." Sam smirked a little, as if he could move anyway. His gut felt tingly watching her stumble as she ran, maybe her tolerance was higher than his. It felt like an ice pick behind his eyes every time he blinked. Why now of all times, why did it have to happen around Kai. He sat there in a slump when shuffling footsteps startled him, clutching his throbbing head he tried to sprint away when a chubby hand gripped his hair pulling him back towards the ground.

Sam, "Let me go!" He struggled but they were three times the size of him. He twitched noticing one of them had a community worker uniform on. Sam knew them well but like his delinquent self he never followed the rules making him a target.

"I don't have time for your whining kid, wheres the girl?" Sam spit the blood dribbling from his nose into their faces. Angered they punched him in the stomach before throwing him down.

"You're pushing your fucking luck brat. Don't think you're untouchable just because your 'his' kid." Sam gritted his teeth the pain more intense than ever. Where was Kai, had she collapsed behind the alley. No, she needed to run or it would all be over.

"Wait a second why do his eyes look like that. Look." They pulled his head up revealing the brightest blue glowing eyes they had ever seen. They all seemed to click their tongues at once realizing what was going on, this was troublesome.

"I can't believe this kid is her anchor. Of all people, it's the one we can't kill with ease." Sam was frozen, he was Kai's anchor but that was so rare.

Anchors are best described as a string of fate, connecting two peoples power together, If one of them dies then the other will also die. Sam being Kai's anchor meant that she was the most unstable of the two and needed grounding so her waves of telekinetic energy wouldn't harm herself.

Kai, "Excuse me gentleman but could you let my friend go." They all darted around to see her sitting on a garage roof above them almost like an eagle ready to snatch its prey.

"You're one pretty kid, okay we'll let him go if you come with us." Their leering eyes gave Sam the creeps, they looked at her like a block of gold.

Sam, "Kai what are you doing run away, now!" He screamed desperately making her heart ache. Friends don't leave each other behind. They moved their attention to Kai gripping her foot, she kicked it off and jumped over the other side. It was a wild goose chase as they tried to find her but she'd already outwitted them after hanging on the end of the shutter she scrambled back up and reached Sam. Kai's strength had returned carrying him quite stable on her shoulder.

Kai, "Lean on me. Are you okay?" Sam looked at her harshly, why didn't she look after her own health it was tedious. Her skin was pale and pasty, One of her eyes was clouded and her nose was still gushing blood.

Sam, "I don't matter right now, you have to tell me what you're feeling ." Kai huffed as she dragged him into the shop backstreet. What did he mean?

Kai, "I feel dizzy but that's it, why are you asking me I'm f--" As she went to finish her sentence an intense shooting pain floored her. Disorientated she looked for Sam and he was right there brushing the hair from her face.

Sam, "Kai! Hey look at me, It's okay." Nothing was okay it felt like her head was on fire, it hurt so bad she couldn't catch a breath. Sam couldn't believe his eyes as Kai transitioned right in front of him.

Kai, "Colin! Get Colin." Sprinting as fast as he could he barged into the clinic yelling at the top of his lungs to get to the alley, panicked Colin rushed down like lightning behind him. As soon as he saw her Colin knew immediately what this was.

Colin, "I can't believe this is happening so soon, your clearly the trigger." He said putting his glasses on and an ice pack on her forehead. Kai looked terrified her eyes wide. Colin noticed her pupils were dilated and sweat hailed from her brow.

Colin, "I can't help her right now, we just have to wait it out. If I give her anything it could harm her brain. You need help too how long ago did you transition?" Sam drooped his head so the gig was up. It was an hour prior to finding Kai. But his wasn't as intense as hers she was convulsing in agony whimpering like a wounded animal.

Kai, "Please make it stop!" her body squirmed as he scooped her off and ran inside. Sam watched her lay on the table curled up in the fetus position as if protecting herself from something. Those pale blue eyes were filled with such anguish. It made Colin's stomach turn.

Colin, "Shh I know it hurts kid but I'm going to make it better." Sam felt a slight relief with hope Colin could help ease the pain but all he did was grab a needle filled with an anesthetic before jabbing it into her arm. Within seconds Kai's tear-filled eyes slowly closed.

Sam, "Why did you just put her to sleep?" He said still shell-shocked watching her sleeping body twitch in discomfort. This was only a temporary solution but he was thankful he didn't have to watch her in pain anymore.

Colin, "You can't allow this level of energy to pulsate with such a weak vessel, suppressing it will give her a better chance." Sam slammed his fist on the metal table causing the utensils to spill noisily on the floor. Colin closed his eyes before looking at him with pity, he always had such a close connection to Kai. It was too close.

Sam, "It'll only come back, what's the point of prolonging her agony." Colin fixed his glasses and grabbed the blood pressure machine sitting Sam down forcefully.

Colin, "I warned you not to let your energy out around Kai, look at you now. Here." Seeing his blood pressure was low he fed him a tablet and pottered on like this wasn't a big deal. Sam sat watching him in disgust.

Sam, "You have to tell her and you know that!"

*BANG*

---------------------------------Present Day-----------------------

Kai, "Get off me!" Like a warp, they were back six years later standing in the park their hands interlocked. Panicked she punched him as hard as she could sending him crashing to the floor. Beads of sweat and tears streamed down her face. What the hell was that?

Sam, "I can explain! Please let me explain..." Kai tucked away her burning hand where they had touched and tried to catch her breath. Burning lungs and dizzy vision consumed her, Sam tried to steady her but she pushed him away.

Kai, "Don't you ever touch me again!" Kai swallowed that aching nausea and sprinted as fast as she could. Was he chasing her? That vision...why couldn't she remember it? The last thing she remembered was Sam falling ill then all of a sudden she was in her bed. None of that happened...Right?
