Chapter 2 - Childhood Days

*Flashback*

(crying)

"What's wrong, Lin?! What happened??" Lu Shen asked.

Tang Lin was crying her her out and said, "I tripped on the rock!!! Shen!! It's bleeding!!"

He ran over to Lin and pulled her head towards his chest, so he could hug her and comfort her. Then, when she calmed down, he ran to get the first aid kit and treated her wound. He learned how to do such things because she would fall all the time and there wasn't always going to be an adult nearby to help, so he needed to learn how to do it himself.

"There. It's not bleeding anymore. It's okay now, Lin," he comforted her.

Lin stood up and wrapped her arms around Shen. Then, she kissed him on the cheek.

"Shen! Do you want to be my husband? Mommy said I should have a husband that takes care of me. If I fall, then my husband has to help me," Lin said with a blushing face.

Shen said, "We're too young. We can't get married now."

Tang Lin yelled, "Yes we can!!"

She then ran into the house and came back with two diamond rings. They were her mother's rings. Her mother had bought many rings over the years, and Tang Lin happened to get a pair of rings that matched each other. One looked like a band and one had a big diamond. Luckily, they weren't her mother's wedding rings.

"We'll put on the rings now and get married when we get older. Okay?"

"Okay!" Shen and Lin were so excited!

Lin put the ring that looked like a band on Shen's ring finger and Shen knelt down to put the diamond ring on Lin's ring finger. They held each other's hand and walked into the house to meet their in-laws.

"Look! Uncle Jin, Shen is my husband now!" Tang Lin said as she showed the family their rings.

Both of their parents looked at them with a shocked expression. They had another big blow to the chest when Shen pecked Lin on the lip. The adults were speechless and they watched as the two children held hands and ran outside.

"W..wait! Aren't those my rings?" Lin's mother, Zhang Yi, said.

"Just let them play along with it, sister-in-law," Tang Jin said as he laughed hard at the two kids.

*Flashback ends*

"Oh my gosh!!! My childhood husband is this handsome??? I chose the right man!!" Tang Lin said as she paid for the magazine and her food. She waited for her uncle to pay for his food and they loaded the car with groceries. They drove back to the house and stuffed themselves. It felt like they were in a food coma and they went to sleep after washing up.

The next morning, Tang Lin got up and rummaged through her box full of old childhood items. She found the diamond ring under all of her school certificates and awards.

"Wow! I still have it!" Lin said.

She put it in her purse and got ready to go to the Tang Residence with her uncle. They arrived at the mansion and went inside.

"My brother-in-law, Jin!!!" Zhang Yi ran over to hug Lin's uncle.

They became best friends after Zhang Yi got married to Lin's father.

Lin's mother came over to Lin and said, "You only decide to come visit me when your uncle comes. If he didn't come, would I even be able to see my own daughter anymore??!"

Tang Lin hugged her mom and said, "I'm sorry, mother! I've been busy with the shop and my studies!"

Tang Lin owned a jewelry shop and that helped her pay for her tuition and her everyday needs. She didn't want to depend on her family's wealth and she was more independent.

"Okay, okay! I forgive you!! Just visit me more, I'm getting old!"

She continued, "Oh! I forgot to tell you guys. The Lu family heard that Jin came from abroad, so they're coming to visit us today."

Tang Lin's eyes widened. The Lu family? Wasn't Lu Shen in that family? Was he coming?

It was like her uncle read her mind and asked, "Is Shen coming?"

Tang Wei walked over and said, "He should be coming, if he's not working overtime at his company."

Her uncle said, "Hopefully, he comes so the wide-eyed Tang Lin over there can see her husband again."

He noticed her facial expression when they mentioned Lu Shen and wanted to tease her about her childhood husband.

Lin glared at her uncle and wanted to smack him in the head for bringing it up in front of her parents.

"Oh yeah!!! Weren't you married to him before? Do you still have the ring??" Lin's mother asked.

"Yes. I have it with me," Lin said as she pulled the ring out of her purse.

"Wow! Do you still have a crush on him? You still have the ring with you?" Her uncle asked as he cracked up from laughter.

"I just remembered about it this morning and I was going to bring it to ask if mother wanted it back." She lied because she also didn't know why she suddenly wanted to find the ring again. Was she still interested in him?

"Try it on. If it fits, then you can have it." Her mother said.

Tang Lin put on the ring and it slid on perfectly.

Suddenly, the main door was opened by the maids and a older man and woman walked in with a handsome young man by their side.

Shen's parents walked over to them and Tang Wei said, "Oh! You guys are here! Long time no see!"

The parents hugged each other as if they were old friends.

Shen's mother, Han Ming, saw Lin and said, "Oh! Is this Lin? I haven't seen you in such a very long time! You have grown up to be a beautiful young woman!"

"Thank you, Aunty. It seems as if I just saw you yesterday. You don't look a day older than when I last saw you." Lin said to get on her good side.

"Zhang Yi! You have such a well-mannered daughter!" Han Ming said.

The young man behind all of them went up to Tang Lin and raised his left hand.

"It's nice to meet you again, Lin." Lu Shen said.

Shen felt something cold press against his hand as Lin shook his hand. He looked at her finger and saw a ring. It looked very familiar.

"I see you've gotten married already," he said with a disappointed expression.

Zhang Yi joined in their discussion and said, "You don't remember? That's the wedding ring you put on Tang Lin when you were kids. Remember?"

Tang Lin looked at her mother and gave a look to make her be quiet.

Tang Lin said, "It's nothing. I just found it in a box this morning and I just tried it on right now."

"Well, it looks very good on you. I hope you wear it often," the young man said as Lin blushed.

"Son, why would she wear a wedding ring when she isn't even married?" His father, Lu Tai, said.

Tang Lin said,"Well, I don't intend to wear i—"

Shen interrupted, "Then, I'll marry her."
