Chapter 9 - Kill-Stealing in an Eye-Catching Manner

In the Chaotic Era, there were only a few things that could instantaneously regenerate a player. Besides the Priest's Heal, the Prophet's Healing Totem, the Paladin's Grace Cleansing, the Death Knight's Essence of Blight, and the Dark Mage's Mist of Wailing, which targeted crowd healing, nobody else could produce an instant regeneration effect.

In other words, there was no Regeneration Potion for the players to use. The effects of all potions were meant to sustain regeneration. It was very slow, and the effect would be interrupted if one suffered an attack!

Generally, if there was no HP or mana, the players would either slowly regenerate through their own regeneration speed or only sit back and use food and water to regenerate. Later, some potions could be used in combat. Of course, these potions were all the same and would be interrupted as soon as one was attacked.

Fatty had chosen these four parties to kill-steal monsters from with a purpose. These four parties had a common feature: They didn't have a magic class. They were a party of Berserkers, Shield Warriors, and Death Knights. The leveling efficiency in the early stage was indeed very high, but everyone knew that non-magic classes had a pitiful amount of mana…

After the creation of each player's character, there would be 10 stat points in total. Based on the different classes, the distribution was also different. Most of the initial points of magic classes were allocated to Spirit and Intelligence. Thus, they had more mana after being spawned. On the other hand, melee classes allocated more to Strength and Constitution, while their Intelligence… was pitifully limited.

Fatty had played the Berserker in the past. In the beginning, he'd only had 18 mana. The first skill learned by the newcomers had a higher mana consumption than the Venomancer's skill. Even if all the members of the party on the left were at level two, their mana would at most be a little more than 24 points. After using two skills, it would be more or less exhausted…

It could be said that in addition to knowing how to find monsters and hatred, the most important thing the melee classes in the Chaotic Era could learn was how to control the use of their skills.

After completing the novice quests, Fatty only got a loaf of bread and a bag of spring water. He was sure that the same applied to everyone else. Under the poorer conditions of the early stages, nobody would be willing to use these two regeneration sources. For the melee classes in the early stages, it would be best to use a normal attack to level up. When they reached the fifth or sixth level and had more mana, they should then consider using their skills. This was the most sensible choice.

The bunch of fools before him had actually used their skills to kill-steal against him. Weren't they foolish?

Great. Now they didn't have any more mana, so they could only rely on their normal attacks to kill the monsters, which was akin to returning to square one. Fatty was eyeing them covetously and keeping watch from the side, so he was definitely going to kill-steal…

When the players of the other three parties realized this, they didn't know what to do for a moment.

If they continued killing, knowing that they had attacked the Poisonous Scorpion to half of its HP and half of their EXP would be distributed away by that Venomancer's attack, who would resign themselves to that? However, if they were to stop killing, it would be time to rush levels now. Nobody wanted to fall behind by even a step.

Four of the parties that had been kill-stolen stopped acting. They looked at each other, hoping that the other party would come up with an idea to no avail.

Upon seeing this situation, Fatty, who was sitting in front of the controller, blinked and said, "Alright. If you guys are not going to kill, I will!"

By controlling his character, he raised his hand to release the Miasma attack, which landed on a Poisonous Scorpion that nobody had bothered.

When that Poisonous Scorpion suffered the attack, it turned its head and ran toward Fatty. It raised its pincers, wanting to release an attack.

However, in front of the controller, Fatty's fingers jumped quickly on the virtual keyboard twice, while the character controlled by him took a step backward in an instant.

"Miss!" Attack ineffective!

"Huh?" The players of the four parties had originally wanted to see how Fatty was going to make a fool out of himself, as everyone knew that magic classes had very low HP. Fatty's Venomancer was alone, so no one was helping him to fight the monster. Even if he could kill the monster alone, he wouldn't last very long. He would be losing HP severely and he would have to sit down to regenerate. However, unexpectedly, when Fatty took a step back, the Poisonous Scorpion's first attack failed.

"Probably luck, right? I'm afraid it just happened to be an attack mistake…" A bunch of people had that thought.

However, after they saw the Poisonous Scorpion chase him and once again perk up its pincers while Fatty's character only took a step back that caused the attack to fail, everyone knew that something was amiss.

"What's going on?" The players glanced at each other in dismay, feeling puzzled.

Fatty did not keep attacking the Poisonous Scorpion. The characteristic of the Venomancer was that it had a powerful toxin with a health reduction effect. Besides inflicting 7-8 points of damage to the Poisonous Scorpion, each Miasma attack had a continuous health reduction effect. Although it was limited to 1 per second, when one did not have much regeneration food in the early stages, these 6 points of damage were valuable enough to save a lot of mana for Fatty.

Hence, he basically waited until the toxin effect disappeared before he attacked the Poisonous Scorpion again.

It took him a lot of time to finally kill a Poisonous Scorpion. This time, Fatty successfully obtained a full amount of EXP and also obtained his first Poisonous Scorpion Tail.

It should be mentioned that although he could obtain 50% of the monster EXP with the last-hit effect, the ownership of the items dropped by the monster had to be allocated according to the damage effect. Only the person or party that had inflicted the most damage to the monster could pick up the items. Therefore, although Fatty had gained a lot of EXP by relying on the last hit, in fact, he could not get the quest items dropped by the Poisonous Scorpions.

After he killed this Poisonous Scorpion, Fatty's mana also ran out, mainly because he had just kill-stolen many times. Furthermore, he had now independently killed this scorpion and used his skills for a long time, thus using up his 60 points of mana.

Fatty controlled his character and made it sit down and slowly regenerate its mana.

Meanwhile, the four parties pushed and shoved before a player walked forward. After approaching Fatty, he said, "Big… Big Brother, how come that scorpion always missed when it attacked you?"

Fatty blinked and held onto the headset as he said, "Why should I tell you?"

What a joke! While they were kill-stealing, they also laughed at him. Now, they were asking him questions and calling him Big Brother. Did they think he would forget that they had been kill-stealing if they called him that?

Although it currently looked as if he had been stealing the other people's monsters, Fatty hadn't even realized that… Well, in his opinion, he was on the righteous side…

After hearing the deep, magnetic voice of Fatty, the other players couldn't help but freeze.

Fatty's voice was really confusing. Without seeing Fatty in real life, upon hearing his voice, they couldn't help but think of a wise, mature man. Then, they thought of the last-hitting technique that Fatty had used when he had been kill-stealing earlier. The scorpion's attack had failed because he had constantly been stepping back. The other players subconsciously regarded Fatty as a mysterious expert.

Hence, the player who had been chosen to ask Fatty questions clearly felt increasingly ill at ease and apologized. "Oh, oh… Sorry…"

When he looked at Fatty, who was sitting and regenerating without moving, he wanted to turn and leave.

What he didn't know was that Fatty, who was sitting before the controller, was suddenly stunned.

It wasn't until the player left that Fatty suddenly realized something: This bunch of players really didn't know the technique of taking a step back to attack a scorpion!

While Fatty had stepped back and made the scorpion's attack fail, it had looked very impressive. However, before he'd traveled back in time, this had been a trick that almost everyone had known. The principle of this operating method was actually very simple: It was a matter of attack range.

This technique could only be effective against monsters that were clumsy, had a larger attack range, and attacked closely. For example, the Poisonous Scorpion. When the scorpion raised its pincers to prepare for its attack, taking a step back would pull him out of its attack range, causing the system to determine that its attack had failed.

In the later stage, this technique would extend to a higher-level technique, which was meant to avoid some non-directional linear attacking skills, such as the very powerful Illuminate. Usually, it was only used by some boss creatures. Once the players were attacked, they could be almost directly killed. However, the horizontal attack range of this skill was relatively small, which was commonly known as 'narrower'. Players could predict the direction of the skill and then move laterally to avoid it.

Even Fatty knew this simple technique. Of course, this technique could only be applied to novices leveling in the early stages. In the later stages, the monsters encountered were higher in level and had a fast attack speed and a small range. This technique would not be useful anymore.

The Poisonous Scorpion was a junior monster, so Fatty had subconsciously used this technique.

However, when this player had come over to ask questions, Fatty had suddenly realized that he had been a little too shocking. This was not four years later, when all the techniques had been figured out. The beta trial had only started an hour ago!

Was it really appropriate for him to use experienced techniques determined by countless players four years later?
