Chapter 25 - Chapter 22 Heroic Legion

The so-called Heroic Legion refers to the time when a commander goes on an expedition, appointing a batch of Deputy Generals to help lead the troops. In other words, having more soldiers also requires a wide array of generals.

For example, if the main hero brings Long Spear Soldiers and archers to battle, the commander appoints a Vice Hero to lead the Long Spear Soldiers, then a Heroic Legion is formed. Of course, another Vice Hero can also be appointed to command the archers. The number of tactical positions a commander has determines how many Vice Heroes they can bring.

The value of a hero lies in their Strategic Attack and Defense Attributes affecting the whole army; that is, however much Strategic Attack and Defense the hero has, the troops will gain that much on top of their own attack and defense. When the team has more than one hero, the higher Strategic Attack and Defense will prevail.

For example, if the commander's Strategic Attack and Defense are higher than all the Vice Heroes', then the army's attack and defense will be based on the commander's stats. Similarly, if the main hero's Skill Level is higher than all the Vice Heroes', the commander's skills will prevail. Of course, the Vice Hero's Personal Attack and Defense will still be added to the commander's Strategic Attack and Defense.

If a Vice Hero's attribute, such as Defense, is higher than the commander's, then the Defense of the troops led by that Vice Hero will be based on the Vice Hero, meaning the Vice Hero's attack, defense, and skills only affect the troops they command.

Therefore, the basic point of forming a legion is for the Vice Heroes to complement the main hero's abilities. A warrior-type main hero with high attack and defense would naturally want to recruit a Magic-type Vice Hero. Conversely, a Magic-type hero with low attack and defense definitely needs to recruit a high attack and defense warrior-type Vice Hero.

Additionally, players can also appoint Vice Heroes with outstanding Attack and Defense Attributes as commanders, so that the army's entire attack and defense skill enhancements will be based on the Vice Hero acting as commander. In this way, Magic-type players only need to focus on training one attack and defense-type Vice Hero. In fact, Magic-type players usually appoint Vice Heroes as commanders.

Another important value of Vice Heroes is that their Command Power can directly stack with the main hero's, meaning the broader the range of generals, the more troops they can lead.

So even if players encounter a NPC Vice Hero in a tavern with lousy attributes and skills, but unexpectedly high Command Power, such a hero is still worth cultivating! After all, having more troops is the ultimate strategy!

Speaking of NPC heroes in taverns, one must mention an important point—that players cannot form Heroic Legions with other players. Otherwise, if two brothers are good friends, one specializing in attack, the other in defense, working together they could be unstoppable, then what would game developers and agents earn? Players can only team up with each other, meaning your troops are yours, my troops are mine, we share experience and loot, and collaborate on quests, and that's it.

So a Vice Hero can only be a NPC!

A Vice Hero is akin to the ultimate pet in a typical online game! But while troops can be easily obtained, a skilled general is hard to find; Vice Heroes are not that easy to recruit, requiring a certain level of reputation and finances from the player. Even the worthless Vice Heroes at least offer a qualitative improvement in the number of troops a player can lead! Of course, Vice Heroes also consume experience points, so recruiting Vice Heroes is a very sophisticated science.

As for top-quality Vice Heroes, and top-quality beauty Vice Heroes needless to say, they drive players to insane heights of excitement!

Vice Heroes are divided into three ranks: Common Heroes, Epic Heroes, and Legendary Heroes. Ordinary Heroes are NPCs ranging from level 1 to level 20 that the system refreshes in the taverns of big cities at certain intervals, some with rare Special Abilities, and an exceptionally slim chance of having Divine-level Special Abilities. These NPC heroes have no past, no background; they are like bonuses given with a phone recharge.

As for Epic Heroes, they are formidable; they have their own stories and legends on the Hero Continent. They appear with high levels and even own properties, making it extremely difficult for players to recruit them as Vice Heroes. Of course, sometimes the Special Abilities of Epic Heroes can be quite ordinary; their value lies in their high levels and related Kingdom backgrounds.

Then there are the Legendary Heroes, whose Special Abilities defy the heavens, and who are immensely powerful, usually being famous generals of a nation or lords of a region. It is almost impossible for such high-caliber heroes to be recruited; however, players can serve temporarily as Vice Heroes under them by completing quests. This is the situation Da Fei is in now.

Looking at the various skill BUFFs stacking up on oneself, Da Fei can already imagine to what extent his attack and defense will be boosted!

Da Fei opened the attribute bar and, even with prior preparation, was still taken aback in shock!

——Attack 60, Defense 63, Damage 7-9, Attack Speed 12, Move Speed 12, Health 40, Morale 6, Luck 5.

Holy crap! Are these attack and defense stats trying to blind new players' eyes? And Da Fei's basic attributes are:

——Attack 9, Defense 3 (personal defense 3), Damage 5-7, Attack Speed 10, Move Speed 10, Health 38, Morale 1, Luck 0.

That is, Renior has 60 attack, 60 defense! (The main hero's attack and defense still add on the vice hero's personal attack and defense)

Then there's the Master-level Attack Skill! Master-level Defense Skill! Master Leadership Skill! Master Level Luck Skill! This is defying the heavens! Although I don't know exactly what rank of hero he is, he must at least be someone who left his name in the annals of the game's background, at least an Epic Hero!

So with the 60 attack bonus, Da Fei's 7-9 damage increases by 300%, which is 28-36! And then with the Master-level Attack Skill giving a 60% increase, the final damage is 44-57!

Instantly raised to the basic standard of an Angel! Turning decay into a miracle! So what kind of terrifying being would an angel with 50 basic damage and 30 attack become in his hands? I've always thought that the Master-level Crossbow Cannon's late-game damage is heaven-defying, but in the late game, that 600 health from the crossbow cannon really isn't enough! Of course, in legion mode, Da Fei's crossbow cannon damage is still based only on Da Fei's personal skill attributes, not boosted by the main hero, otherwise, if every vice hero could bring a crossbow cannon, that would be horrifying.

And such an impressive hero actually lost to Makar, so what kind of heaven-defying existence is Makar? My epic quest is to confront him? Are you kidding me?

Da Fei, shocked, couldn't help but ask: "Captain, just how strong is Duke Makar?"

Like a gust of wind blowing out a dwindling candle, the flames in the skeleton's eye sockets suddenly shook violently: "In the world of the undead, his name is like a forbidden curse, and as one of the undead, I dare not utter his name, or I would become his servant!"

Da Fei was startled: "What is this? Death God?"

The skeleton solemnly said: "Below the Death God, above the undead!"

Da Fei exclaimed in shock: "Death Lord!" The Death Lord's special ability is just like the world's hero valuation number one account that costs 10 million US dollars!

The skeleton nodded: "Correct! He is the Death Lord! A living Death Lord! It seems you know something about him?"

Da Fei quickly took out the diary of Sailing Captain Juan to show him: "I found this among Juan Sebastian's relics! He was the only one who escaped on the day of the incident. He didn't turn into a zombie! He recorded everything that happened that day!"

The flames in the skeleton's eyes trembled mightily: "Juan! I regret not heeding his words back then, and as a result, I made a grave mistake! When our ship was damaged, and all the sailors went below to unload the cargo and save the ship, we were poisoned with gas! In the end, I was no match for him, defeated at his hands, and he cursed us, the dead, out of spite! Adventurer, what are your plans?"

So there was no cargo in the hold because they dumped it all! As a skilled player, Da Fei certainly knows that the plot has taken a new turn. After all, Juan's corpse was hidden so tricky, how could an average player find it? A hidden scene must have hidden missions!

Da Fei immediately said, "Juan's dying wish was for me to avenge him by exposing Makar's deception. Of course, I will inherit his will and uphold justice!"

In that instant, the skeleton's entire body burst into fierce cold flames!

Renior laughed heartily and said, "I always thought I was fearless, an adventurer who dared to venture into any dangerous place. But it wasn't until after I died that I realized how insignificant my soul was. I have become cowardly under the torture of the curse. I had no attachment to life, and my greatest wish was to be free from the curse and die peacefully, perhaps even ascend to Heaven! But now, I've changed my mind. I will fight to the end, I must have my revenge! Adventurer, Juan's dying wish is my dying wish. I will assist you!"

— System Prompt: You have taken on the Epic Quest 'Conspirator on the Great Sea Route' and its sub-mission 'Captain Renior's Revenge'!

— Newbie Tip: Sub-missions are not mandatory, but completing them will greatly facilitate the completion of the main mission.

Da Fei was suddenly startled! Could it be that he was about to recruit an Epic-Level Undead Hero?

This is a must! To issue an Epic Quest for an extraordinary hero and not arrange an Epic Hero for me would be outrageous, right?

Renior continued, "But before that, I must destroy the Curse Barrier on the island at all costs. Otherwise, my soul will be forever trapped here, unable to leave! Starting now, I will focus all my efforts to break the barrier. It might take a day or two. During this period, it will definitely attract a lot of enemies to attack me, and I can't be distracted. Adventurer, your task is to protect me and stop the enemies from interfering!"

— System Prompt: The trial mission 'Assist Captain in Combat' will begin in 30 seconds. Players must hold off the enemy assault until the destruction ritual is complete!

Da Fei was suddenly astounded! Damn it! So you can't take action! It's all up to me, a mere soldier, to defend? But, having been promoted to such a state by him, ordinary enemies are really not worth mentioning! For enemies below level 4, just one spear thrust for each! Come what may, I, Da Fei, will bet everything on this!

What if it fails? Da Fei didn't bother to dwell on that question, just as he never fretted about what to do if the lottery ticket he bought didn't win. After all, Da Fei was already a loser in real life; failing a few times in the game wouldn't make much difference.

Taking advantage of the time he still had, Da Fei immediately pulled out a newbie pack to eat and drink, filling up his stamina. Speaking of which, 5 days have passed in the game, right? That Blood Sea Wave fellow must be running out of fresh water by now, right? And his fruit was picked clean by me, is he thirsty now? Haha!

— System Prompt: The trial mission will begin in 10 seconds.

At this moment, Renior moved to the center of the desolate island, the cold flames engulfing his body pouring into his sword, and then he thrust the sword into the ground, sending out a shockwave that burst forth, causing the dim sky above the island to suddenly thunder, and the surrounding dark grey seas to ripple and surge.

— System Prompt: The trial mission has started! Good luck!

On the mini-map, a red dot flashed, and a strange creature, a four-legged skeletal fish, crawled ashore.

An unknown troop type! Not even introduced on the official website! Of course, the variety of Undead creatures in the Undead Realm was as vast as the number of insect species in the world above; there were too many unseen ones.

Da Fei immediately charged towards the bone fish, as big as a dog, and thrust his spear down! -45! Instant kill! Yay!

— System Prompt: You have obtained incomplete information about the Nether Sea Bone Servant!

— System Prompt: You have killed a Nether Sea Bone Servant and gained 50 experience points!

50 experience points?! Da Fei immediately opened his information bar.

— Nether Sea Bone Servant:

Small-sized Undead Creature.

Attack?

Defense 10

Life 45

Damage:?

Attack Speed: 8

Move Speed: 5

Special Skill:?

Experience Value: 50

Special Skill:?

This Blood Defense, standards of an ordinary level 4 troop! Of course, from level 4 onwards, troop experience varies greatly and cannot be measured by the conventional standards of level 1, 2, 3 troops. In general, the more special skills and the stronger they are, the higher the experience for troops with more health, which is the so-called difficulty coefficient that determines experience. Elite forms often have one more special skill than normal forms, so double the experience is normal. As for bosses, it goes without saying; it's beyond conventional calculations.

Just the first small soldier is already this kind of existence? What will follow?

At that moment, another Bone Servant crawled up onto the beach from the back of the island. Without time to think, Da Fei immediately rushed over.
