Chapter 8 - Chapter 5 Learning Reconnaissance Skill

In the Creation Era Year One, the gods, tired of the endless strife among various races on the Hero Continent, unveiled the Great Otherworld, the New World! All races and nations of the Hero Continent indeed ceased large-scale conflicts and began a fervent colonial expansion into the New World! However, only a few powerhouses of the old world could reach the New World through the Space Gates opened by the mages, and it was not possible to transport large quantities of production materials or equipment, nor to bring back the treasures of the New World in bulk. Further, the abundant presence of formidable monsters in the New World slowed down developmental progress over a hundred years.

In Genesis 145th Year, pioneers working in the ports of the New World stumbled upon a drift bottle from the old world, proving there was a natural oceanic portal between the two worlds, allowing resources to be transported via sea routes! A fierce movement to discover the "Great Sea Route" to the New World then violently unfolded!

On January 1st, Genesis 150, the well-prepared and elite Saint Anthony Expedition Ship led by the experienced navigator, Captain Renior, set sail from Saint Paul Port, loaded with the Empire's blessings and hopes, and once again ventured into the unknown dangerous territories following the pioneers' footsteps! Sir Makar, the Court Astrologer, was also amongst the expedition team.

On April 20th, Genesis 156, the Saint Anthony created a miracle by successfully returning from the New World! But on their way home, they were attacked by the Undead Fleet! Sir Makar became the last survivor of the battle and was stranded on a deserted island until rescued by the Imperial rescue team! In honor of this great achievement, the unnamed deserted island was named Miracle Island!

On January 1st, Genesis 157, the recovered Sir Makar, with his monumental feats in pioneering the Great Sea Route, formally accepted the Empire's ennoblement ceremony, was promoted to Duke, became the chief court astrologer of the Lionheart Empire, and was hailed as the greatest scholar, navigator, and explorer of this century!

By Genesis 159, the exploration of the sea routes to the New World had officially completed, with the Light Camp and Dark Camp each controlling a portal to the New World, heavily guarded. The New World colonization movement was thus fully launched.

By Genesis 160, to accelerate the pace of colonization, the gods dispatched the Child of Destiny (namely the player) into the Creation Era!

....

It is now the year 160, and this is the official website's background introduction to the game and the Great Sea Route, without a single word about Mithril Island, which is also absent from the Empire's New World map, let alone any underground seas. The cause of the mishap also slightly diverges from those tearful complaints noted in the journal. Of course, it is these discrepancies that suggest a conspiracy, probably Sir Makar attempting to monopolize Mithril Island, right?

But whether it's an epic or legendary quest, those are just distant dreams! Those aren't for a level 2 guy like me to consider right now; the urgent task is to deal with this Blood Sea Wave! Plus, having received this quest, the value of this account is bound to skyrocket by a hundredfold, right? As he said, even if I can't make it anymore, I could just log off here and contact someone to sell the account; surely some boss will come along to pick it up! So, I've got nothing to worry about, hahaha!

The biggest gain now is this Reconnaissance Skill Book.

— Basic Reconnaissance Skill: Increases the hero's field of vision by 20%, and gives information about enemy numbers, morale, and supplies.

— Intermediate Reconnaissance Skill: Increases the hero's field of vision by 40%, with a chance to detect hidden enemies nearby and pre-warn against their attacks, increasing the player's likelihood to dodge attacks.

— Advanced Reconnaissance Skill: Increases the hero's field of vision by 60%, capable of making maps, and with a chance of discovering hidden resources or treasures that are hard to find by ordinary people.

— Expert Reconnaissance Skill: Increases the hero's field of vision by 80%, capable of viewing the equipment of opposing heroes from a distance, and able to train the troop type Scout in their own castle.

Scout: Level 1 troop, Attack 0, Defense 0, Health 10, Damage 0-1, Attack Speed 10, Move Speed 15, Command Value 1, Special Skill: Advanced Reconnaissance Skill, Stealth. Training cost: 500 Gold Coins (the most expensive level 1 troop).

— Master Reconnaissance Skill: Increases the hero's field of vision by 100%, grants night vision ability to maintain normal sight at night. (Note: The night vision decreases by 90%)

Sub-skills are as follows:

—— Intelligence Collection: When heroes fight unknown monsters, they can obtain the monsters' attributes and create Intelligence Cards. Selling Intelligence Cards to scholars or nobles can earn money, prestige, and favor from certain NPCs.

—— Disarm Mechanism: Possesses the ability to unlock and disarm traps.

—— Disguise: Anti-reconnaissance, making it difficult for enemy heroes or wild monsters to discern the composition of your army.

—— Stealth: Allows the hero to remain undetected by enemy forces and monsters within a certain range. The effectiveness depends on the level of the Reconnaissance Skill, monster level, weather, and local terrain. While using Stealth, the hero cannot lead any troops. Prerequisite for learning: Advanced Reconnaissance Skill.

—— Ambush: The hero's troops can lay an ambush in the wilderness, making it difficult to be detected by enemies. The effectiveness depends on the weather, terrain, number of troops, and enemy's reconnaissance skill level. During an ambush, troops cannot move. Prerequisite for learning: Must master Grandmaster-level Reconnaissance Skill.

—— Intelligence Analysis: After obtaining complete detailed information on unknown creatures, the hero can discover the creature's fatal weakness, ignoring 25% to 100% of its defense during battle. Learning requirement: Master-level Reconnaissance Skill.

—— Phantom March: Your troops are hard to detect by enemies while marching in the wilderness. Learning requirement: Divine-level Reconnaissance Technique.

.......

This is the Reconnaissance Skill! A skill similar to the thief class in traditional games! Thieves in the hands of highly imaginative and creative players often create incredible miracles!

But in the Heroic Creation Era, a game of leading troops in battles, this skill might seem a bit awkward since there isn't a strong offensive skill at the beginning, making early leveling disadvantageous. Although the Master-level sub-skill Intelligence Analysis and Divine-level sub-skill Phantom March are impressive, both Master and Divine levels are elusive!

After level 10, upgrading becomes harder, and players who have maxed out the Attack Skill before level 10 are certainly killing monsters quickly and fiercely. Between levels 10 and 30, prioritizing the Leadership Skill that increases troop limits and the Defense Skill that increases troop life and defense is more urgent, making it unlikely to invest Skill Points in Reconnaissance Skill. After level 30, upgrading becomes even more difficult, and learning Reconnaissance Skill could slow down the upgrading speed, wiping out early advantages. Probably only casual players who dislike fighting, business-oriented players, or large guilds and teams would specifically train an account focusing on reconnaissance.

And of course, Da Fei is a business player. Da Fei's goal is to make money by running ships. A merchant running ships might not be able to beat pirates but must be able to detect pirates early and avoid them promptly, so Reconnaissance Skill is a must-learn for Da Fei! Besides, it would be a curse not to learn from a book that's been fortunately found.

So, with a grateful heart, Da Fei opened the book without hesitation! A flash of golden light!

—— System Prompt: You have learned Basic Reconnaissance Skill, your vision has increased by 20%! You can obtain information on enemy troop numbers, morale, and logistics.

Now, with the bonuses from the skill and the telescope, Da Fei's vision is 70% better than a normal person. Da Fei, feeling triumphant, raises his telescope again towards the shipwreck, snickering, "Just wait, once I learn Stealth, I'll sneak on board!"

However, seeing Blood Sea Wave tirelessly slaying monsters day and night, Da Fei felt even more annoyed. Damn it, I'm stuck on a reef due to the high tide and can't do anything, my leveling time is half as much as his! No choice, I have to wait for the tide to retreat at night. Since I have nothing else to do, I'll flip through this diary and see what this so-called Mithril Island is all about.
