Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep....
The frantic beeps from the various machines in the room woke Zhou Ling up with a start.
What the he'll was this whole ruckus for? She thought while openning her eyes to register in her groggy state that she was at the hospital and not at home. Which means.... oh no!
She quickly sprang to her feet just in time to see doctors and nurses flooding into the room making her wonder what the hell happened to have caused such a commotion. But she definitely was thinking too much. The only reason they all came barging in after the sudden alarm was because of whose parents where in the ward. If it was a normal patient in the room, only one doctor will suffice unless it was something serious but because it was the thousand years old iceberg's parents in the room, they had to be extra careful in order not to invite trouble unto themselves.
Therefore, at least two or three doctors were needed to ensure they don't make any unnecessary mistakes that could cost them their licence or even life. Although it was truly ironic when comparing the situation of the rich and powerful to ordinary folks in the same hospital, it couldn't be denied that it was true.
No matter the place or situation, the powerful are mostly treated with care and defference while the poor and middle class will only come after.
But what can be done; money does make the world go round.
Wiping her eyes to maintain some clarity, she wanted to ask a doctor or nurse about the current situation but quickly held back after seeing them get busy. Looking at her parent's faces, she is suddenly stunned speechless when she saw her mother staring straight at her. Wiping her eyes again, she is met with the same stare; confused if she's beginning to see things after just taking a short nap, she quickly dashed into the bathroom to wash her face before returning back to still be met with the same stare the only difference being that she had a little smile on her face and even though it appeared weak, the smile got all the way to her eyes. Those little wrinkles at the side of her eyes were all joined together and branching from the eyes outward.
Captivated by those eyes she had longed to see for so many nights, Zhou Ling didn't know what to do. She felt like running up to the bed and giving her mother the tightest hug just to feel that she truly wasn't dreaming but then again, she couldn't bear to do it. What if it really was reality, won't she end up crushing her mother's bones? Maybe the most feasible method was to just give herself a little pinch.
