Looking at her daughter who just came in through the door to their apartment, Mo Xiaye could feel that something was wrong even though she didn't know that was. Although she might be the mother, she sometimes felt like she was the daughter. Ever since she was little, Mo Ning has always been smart, maybe too smart for her age sometimes; She would always be able to sense her mother's emotions just by looking into her eyes but even as a little girl, her mother sometimes found it hard to decipher her feelings.
Maybe it was because she knew her mother took care of her singlehandedly and didn't want to cause her any problems but she has always been able to hide her feelings with accuracy which was one of the reasons Mo Xiaye came to terms quickly with her decision to be an actress but it didn't mean that as her mother, she didn't understand her daughter's little behaviours when she was trying to hide things from her.
Most times, she, Mo Xiaye would pretend to know nothing waiting for her daughter to open up to her but eighty percent of the time, it never happened. She wouldn't say that it didn't hurt her but she always tries to see things from her perspective which made it easier sometimes more than others.
But looking at her daughter today, even though she hasn't said anything, she could see the silhouette of a broken person trying to put up a brave front. Without asking her what was wrong or saying anything to her, Mo Xiaye walked forward to her daughter and wrapped her in a comforting embrace.
Even without words, she managed to say so much with that one hug.
Mo Ning had known ever since she woke up that she wanted something so bad that day but until now when she was enveloped in her mother's embrace, wrapped safely in that cocoon that only a mother could create did she realise what it was exactly that she had wanted.
It was that feeling of home!
The feeling of belonging somewhere or to someone, of always having someone to back you up and care for you unconditionally. Without realising it, her tears was flowing like an endless stream down her cheeks and to her mother's shoulders where it stayed soaking through the material of her dress.
Instead of asking her what was wrong, Mo Xiaye maintained her posture while giving her light pats on her back and whispering soothing words to calm her down. She waited until she was calm enough before leading her to the sofa and then offering her the box of tissues.
Looking at the box of tissues, Mo Ning shook her head indicating that she didn't need it. As far as she was concerned, it was better to just go into the bathroom to clean up at least that way she would feel better and refreshed.
While Mo Ning went to clean up in the bathroom, Mo Xiaye decided to set the table since it was lunch time already plus she wasn't prepared to say what she had to say to her daughter without feeding her to her satisfaction first.
Well... Maybe a tiny part of the reason was that she didn't know how to broach the subject.
