"What do you believe you're looking for?" Victoria watched as a woman rummaged through drawers.
Victoria was the eldest of the siblings, coming in at an entire age of 800 hundred years old. She was the first born of the Caine King and Queen. The expectations ran high when it came to her, but when Ezra was born, she was further dismissed because he was a male. Even among vampires, gender inequality existed. Victoria was intelligent. She was an astronomer, horologist, an excellent horseman, and beat Ezra every time in chess. She succeeded in ways to impress her mother and father, but the crown would still be overturned to Ezra.
She didn't believe that Ezra was suitable to be the King of Caine. He was cold, arrogant, and had no intentions of controlling his anger. Victoria witness countless times that Ezra caused trouble and punished for his actions. He was foolish, troublesome, and mischievous. He always played tricks on her, some were even dangerous. As children, Ezra would kill maids and blame them on her. There was no way of proving her innocence and therefore took the blame. Victoria felt a sense of responsibility of her brother. She spent the most time with him since their mother and father were so busy. So even worse, she knew he had a blood problem. She used to watch him sneak out of the castle to go slaughter an entire village. He was not even close to being able to run the kingdom.
"Will you be quiet and make sure nobody is coming." Astrid hissed and Victoria stood by the doorway. She continued to stifle through papers and books. She sighed and shut the drawers closed.
"it must be somewhere."
She then walked over to the bookshelf of the office and skimmed her eyes over the books until she reached a book that seemed out of place. The pages appeared gaped and ripped. Her fingers pulled it off the shelf and opened it up. The book wasn't a book at all, but a ploy to hid the true thing. This was what she was looking for. Astrid took it out and put the fake book back in its original place.
She then walked past Victoria who hurriedly picked up the pace to match her speed.
"What is that?" Victoria asked.
Astrid smiled sinisterly. "This, Victoria." She opened the notebook and fed the flipping pages through her fingers. "This is your dear brothers journal. One of them at least."
"How did you know he had that?" She questioned.
Astrid walked down the hallway, making sure they were out of sight before opening the book. "When your brother and I.." The reminiscing on memories of Ezra touching her naked body made her face flush and thighs tighten together.
Victoria shook her head violently, wishing no desire for her to complete the story of them in bed together.
"Anyways.." Astrid continued. "I would watch him write in this thing when he thought I was asleep."
Victoria immediately felt a sickness within her and gulped her breath. "What do you want with it?"
Astrid was reading an entry, her brows furrowed and snapped it shut. "That man!" She huffed out a breath.
"How can he be so cruel as to write that about me?" Her eye twitched, but she calmed herself down.
Victoria cleared her throat loudly, attempting to grab Astrid's attention again. Astrid pushed the strands of hair out of her face and adjusted the top of her gown, bouncing her chest up to increase her confidence.
"I am going to build a defense against your brother."
Victoria only grew more in confusion. What could she possibly want to do that for? Didn't she love Ezra?
Astrid rolled her eyes, annoyed at the dense behavior Victoria displayed despite her intelligence. "This is going to help me prove that Ezra is in love with his pet."
"But..thats.."
"Illegal." Astrid finished her sentence. "It definitely is, Victoria."
