At first, it was just a promise.
No more like a favor which I could have used in the future to my advantage if the needs arise.
Yes, it was a deal and nothing more.
Indeed it was supposed to be nothing more than a deal.
But then I wonder why I decided to stay with him for a week straight and taught him magic.
Food, Sleep, rest.....it seemed like none of that mattered.
One of us was too busy learning while the other was too occupied teaching.
That was definitely the busiest week of her life in several millennia.
But for some reason, it didn't feel like a chore to her at all.
No in fact it felt fulfilling if anything, there was a weird sense of excitement whenever he managed to understand whatever she would teach him in one go.
She wanted him to go further.
To fly even higher than her.
To go beyond.
It wasn't like she didn't feel jealous at first, no she did, she felt terrible knowing how easily he was able to understand her, it felt unfair how it took her years to learn things which he could learn in days.
But then it changed when one day she saw light coming from his room, using her power she secretly tried to probe what he was doing.
She was a bit surprised when she saw that he was still revising what she had taught him yesterday.
Not paying much attention to it she returned back to her place.
Next day.
Again she saw light coming from his room, she raised an eyebrow but didn't think much about it.
Next day.
There he was again diligently revising her lesson.
A week later.
"Does he not sleep?"
She wondered as she stared at his small face from the small opening she created in the wall.
Her eyes shined when she saw the smile on his face, it felt like he was enjoying it.
Unknowingly she ended up staying awake that night, watching her student.
Slowly weeks turned into months and months turned into years.
Long gone were her feelings of jealously replaced by a sense of admiration.
'Is this how it feels to be a teacher?', she wondered.
'I wonder what I should teach him tomorrow....'
She started looking forward to the upcoming day.
Ah she also needs to create a staff for him.
Yes for her dear student.
Grant Ashdown.
Unknownst to her she already started treating Grant as her own child.
Sleeping on the same bed, bathing together, helping him dress, combing his hair, reprimanding him for staying up all night....these aren't things a mentor does for his student.
But Zerwa seemed to be oblivious to it.
Time passed.
After five years the day of Grant's departure finally came.
He has already learned all there was to learn from Zerwa.
Right now with his efforts he has achieved the rank of a grandmaster.
[You have gained the skill *[Great Mage]*(S)]
It was time to return.
