Kristal flinched in her sleep and abruptly opened her eyes. A flash of pain flashed quickly in her eyes before disappearing as if it was never there.
'That dream again.' She thought.
She sat up and looked at the clock. It was 6 am, just enough time for her to get ready for school.
After getting ready, she took her oversized black hoodie and her bag. She went out of her room and passed through the dining room.
There, she saw her Uncle Ben, Aunt Laurice and her cousins, Cate and Josh. They are all eating breakfast when she passed by, all of them just looked at her and then ignored her.
It doesn't matter for Kristal though, it is normal in this household.
In fact, Kristal is thankful to her Uncle Ben, it is he who get her out of that hell, even though he doesn't mean to, but the faxt remains that it is he who saved Kristal from hell.
When Kristal was 13, her father's abusive tendencies turned for worse. She was locked up for days, without food nor water. Kristal already resigned herself to her fate.
She was dying.
But things turned out differently.
She never thought that when she was ready to die, she would be rescued by the police and brought to the hospital. It even became a sensational news, a 13 year old kid, locked up in a basement for 5 days, without water nor food, it was a miracle that she could even survive.
After waking up in the hospital, she learned that it was her Uncle Ben, the brother of Her mother who discovered her and reported to the police.
It was all a coincidence. Uncle Ben just wanted to drop by to say hello to his sister whom he hasn't seen for a long time, he didn't expect to see a skin and bones kid, who turned out to be his niece locked up in a tiny basement.
For the kid Kristal, her Uncle Ben was a hero in her heart. A person who took her out of death.
After recovering in the Hospital, she was now pushed into the custody of his uncle Ben. Kristal felt immediately that she wasn't liked by the family of Uncle Ben. Maybe even Uncle Ben thought that she was a burden. That's why Kristal resolved in her pure untainted child mind, she would do anything to not make trouble for her Uncle Ben.
She was very obedient. She never complained. Even though she was always left with second hand clothes from her cousins, she felt that it was fine. She was freeloader in this family after all.
Her cousins didn't like her. At first, they tried to bully her out of their house but since she was always quiet and obedient. They can't make trouble for her and ended up just ignoring her presence totally.
Kristal looked up the beautiful blue sky. It was a start of a new semester. Kristal was already 19 and an incoming freshman of the K University.
Kristal put up her hoodie to hide her face. She started walking towards the bus stop.
While waiting, Kristal though to her self,
'I hope I can pass my college as quietly as possible.'
