In her former life, Li Wenyan had arranged a marriage for her, asking her to marry his colleague's son. It happened during her summer holiday in her third year of college.
The man was an autistic man who was prone to violence.
Li Wenyan had brought her along for his colleague to take a look at her back then. She had witnessed then, how a twenty-seven-year-old man beat up a maid when she had accidentally arranged the tableware wrongly.
Tang Li learned about Li Wenyan's decision soon after. It was useless no matter how she begged him to change his mind.
In the end, she had no choice but to run away to the Han family.
Han Jifeng had proposed to her before that event.
In the beginning, Li Wenyan's colleague had looked down on Tang Li because of her origin and background. In the end, they had rejected the marriage when they learned about the incident where Tang Li had run away and hidden in another man's house. Hence, Li Wenyan chose to not bother about her anymore when the arranged marriage fell through.
Now, she no longer wanted to marry Han Jifeng. However, Li Wenyan would have the same arrangement for her.
Li Wenyan would not treat her nicely because she was a burden to him. He would not arrange everything nicely for her just like what he would do for Li Shengxia and Li Yuan'er.
She had had enough of desperation and loneliness.
She would not assume that she could rely on the Li family naively now that she was given another chance to start all over again.
She recovered her senses when she heard the sound of somebody on a bicycle stopping abruptly next to her.
She was knocked down by the bicycle.
The guy who had crashed into her was shocked when he realized that Tang Li's left elbow was hurt. She was bleeding. "Are you even aware of where you are? I rang my bell and you still walked to the center of the road!"
Tang Li was not bothered by his lack of responsibility. She held her elbow and continued on her way.
It was noon and there were a lot of people in the college.
A deep brown Lexus stopped by the road slowly when she had not gone far.
Somebody rolled down the window of the back seat of the car.
Tang Li saw a handsome man's face.
Song Boyan looked at her left elbow. He appeared rather gentle and his voice sounded nice and friendly. "Are you hurt?"
Tang Li was standing at the sidewalk, holding her left elbow tightly.
His gentle voice and eyes were just like a stream of warmth to her. Her heart was warmed by him. It suddenly dawned on her that no one else cared for her like him after her mother had passed away.
Tang Li replied that she was fine.
Then, she lowered her head just like a kid who had done something wrong. She seemed so helpless and lost in front of So Boyan.
"Did you fall down?" Song Boyan asked her again.
Tang Li realized now that her jeans were dirtied around her knees.
She made an assumption in her heart seeing how the man was worried about her. "I was hit by a bicycle just now. My elbow is slightly injured."
Then, she looked up at Song Boyan. "Why are you here, Mr. Song?"
"My nephew is studying here." As he replied, his eyes fell on her injured elbow again. He spoke to her in his deep and low voice again. "Get into the car now. I'll give you a ride to the hospital. Your injury needs to be taken care of."
What if that first question she had was only a probing question?
She wanted to clarify her doubts about whether Song Boyan did indeed care for her.
Now...
Tang Li could affirm her assumption.
Then, Ji Ming got out of his driver seat. He stood by the road and opened the door on the other side of the car for her.
Tang Li was hesitant for a short while. But, she still chose to get into the car in the end.
The car appeared rather harsh and sharp just like the last time when Tang Li was given a ride home. It might be because of the fact that the car was used by him only. She soon smelled the scent of the leather seat of the car the minute she got into the car.
The sound-proof system in the deluxe car was indeed superb.
Tang Li put her hand in front of her. She covered her wound tightly for fear that she might stain the car seat.
It was quiet in the car for a short while.
Song Boyan was reading some materials. After a few seconds, Song Boyan put them back into the file and tossed it aside.
Song Boyan spoke to her when Ji Ming started the engine of the car again. "Did you have classes in the first three or four periods during the morning session?"
