Luckily Aunt Sylvia was there with me and went in and held me while I told him I loved him and will miss him. We left the hospital after and came home to start making arrangements and making calls. That night I cried so much that I actually cried myself to sleep. Speaking of sleep, I think I'm going to head onto the bed now. So I will leave you here and you can finish the movie or whatever. As she climbed the steps she wished this had been different and that max would have been the one that was there with her.
As Cassidy got into bed all she could think of was what it would be like to have max lying in bed beside her holding her with that thought she drifted off to sleep. Max headed up the stairs and heard Cassidy whimpering so he went into her room and crawled into her bed and held her tight. Cassidy fell into a deep sleep five minutes later. Cassidy awoke and realized she had a strong male arm resting across her stomach. As easily and quietly as possible she tried to get out of bed but the arm tightened. Going somewhere Cassidy came a low sweet voice. Actually yes i'm going to go get a shower and get ready to go to the lawyers office. Max moved his arm so she could get up. As soon as she was up she bolted for the bathroom. As max heard the bathroom door, he got up and headed downstairs to start a pot of coffee.
Upstairs in the bathroom Cassidy was traveling from waking with max. All those years ago when she couldn't wait to wake up with him and now with the memory of the conversation that she overheard she couldn't help but be disgusted with herself. As she showered her mind kept going back to max and how she was torn between wanting him to stay and wanting to get the day over so she could get rid of him for good. As she made her way down to the kitchen she heard max moving around. Max turned around and handed her a cup of coffee. Sugar and creamer just like you like it max said with a smile and twinkle in his eye.
Cassidy was surprised he remembered how she liked her coffee. Before you ask when you love someone you never forget the little things like how they take their coffee and before he finished the last word he turned around and grabbed something off the counter and then turned back to cassidy and handed her a bowl of grape nuts with strawberries and cream on top. At the sight of the cereal tears sprang to her eyes because there was no way he would remember how she liked these things if he never loved her. Max noticed Cassidy's eyes and asked why she was crying. I'm not crying it's just my allergies are acting up and with that said she turned around and wiped her eyes. We have to leave in an hour to meet Malcolm so why don't you go and get ready.
Once max was out of the kitchen cassidy collected herself and sat down to drink her coffee. On his way up the stairs max was trying to figure out what he did or said to bring tears to cassidy's eyes. He decided that whatever it was that it could wait until later right now he needed to get ready to go see the lawyer and he still didn't understand why he had to go but he would soon find out. He got a shower, shaved and put on his best suit and tie and headed back down the stairs. Cassidy was waiting by the door for him. I'm ready to go if you are, she said. Yes, i'm ready even though i have no idea why i have to go and sit for the will reading and the only reply cassidy could come up with was neither do i but she kept that comment to herself.
