"What's this about?" I whispered with a frown. Something was off about all of it, from how Greengrass was able to quickly secure a date with Neville to hiding around the corner eavesdropping on Ron and Parkinson's conversation.
"Don't you want to know the truth?" Greengrass winked.
"Sure?" I didn't know what the proper reaction would be, "But…"
"No," She shushed me, "Just listen."
I nodded, though I kept on trying to figure out what was off. How did Greengrass manage to get information out of Ginny? It was impossible for them to be close enough for Ginny to share such information with her, not to mention they barely knew each other's existence.
Just how did she do it?
"I don't want to do this anymore," Parkinson said with a sigh, "There's no point."
"What do you mean?" Ron sounded agitated, "Don't you want your vengeance?"
"Vengeance is a strong word, Weasley," She sighed again, "Sure, I guess part of me wants to avenge Granger for taking Draco away from me, but it's been a while now, and I don't think my desire for retaliation is that strong anymore."
"What? That's a shame," Ron scoffed, "I thought you cared."
"I did, and I still do," Parkinson's voice cracked a little, "But don't you understand? I'm also trying to move on. It is what it is. I thought about it, you know, is it going to do anyone good if we break them up?"
"Where did you get all these sentiment from?" Ron said impatiently.
"Like I said, I thought about it," She spoke quietly, "Don't you want Granger to be happy? I know I want Draco to be with someone who he thinks fit. And if that's Hermione Granger, even though I think she's a prude, it's really none of my business."
"I'm not a prude," I mumbled, "How am I ever a prude?"
Greengrass turned around and gave me a 'come on' look.
"Fine, I admit sometimes I can be a square," I threw my hands, "But I am no prude."
Greengrass shrugged and turned back to listen to the conversation we should be no part of.
"Parkinson, I'm disappointed in you," He was stern, "We made a plan, and you promised to stick with it."
He didn't answer whether he wanted me to be happy and I wasn't sure how I felt about it. It was a hard question, and I understood it was even harder for him to learn to forgive someone who he deemed to have crossed him.
However, there was a more important question:
Did I want him to be happy?
That was when I realized that deeply inside, I wanted nothing but for him to leave our intertwined pasts behind and seek what he truly wanted in life.
"I know what I promised," She pleaded, "Things change, you have to be flexible and adapt. When we first met up to talk about it, neither of us thought about where we'd end up, did we? I…"
"That's enough," He interrupted her coldly. I had never heard him talking in this way and I couldn't help but wonder what had been going on between them.
Then a wild idea got into my mind.
"What are you going to do with Brown?" She changed the topic and sounded concerned.
"I don't know," His tone softened a little, he almost sounded guilt, "I haven't thought about it."
"That's not fair," She was the one to raise the voice this time, "What do you mean you haven't thought about it? You told me you'd break the news to her two weeks ago. Now you are saying you haven't even given it a thought?"
"Do not yell at me," He switched back to being harsh, "I'm leaving."
"Wait…"
I was frazzled when I heard him going down the stairs and heading toward where Greengrass and I were. Greengrass was quick to react and grabbed my arm, pulled me away from the stairs and purposefully began talking loudly as if we just got here.
"Damn it, how did I forget my book?" She said and gave me the look, signalled me to go along with her.
"I hate the Divination Stairwell," I spoke the truth.
Ron glanced at me as he walked pass by without saying a word. Not a moment later as we were walking up, Parkinson ran down the stairs, seemed like she was trying to catch up with him. She avoided any eye contact with us.
After we were certain they weren't within earshot, Greengrass said with a smirk:
"What do you think these two are hiding?"
"How did you get Ginny to tell you anything?" I questioned back, "She wouldn't have told me if I asked."
"Are you bothered by it?" She crossed her arms, "I just went to talk to her, that's it. It's really not a big deal."
I squinted.
"You are thinking too much," She patted on my shoulder, "You should put that energy on finding out what they are planning. That would be way more fun, don't you think?"
Seeing I didn't answer, she shrugged and turned around to head down. I let out a sigh before going down as well.
When we finally got to the Slytherin common room without any other detour, I was surprised to find Malfoy pacing around.
"Here you are," He sounded relieved when he saw me, "I need to talk to you."
"Okay?" The way he spoke made me nervous.
"I'll leave you two to it then," Greengrass said cheerily and waved at me, "See you around."
I nodded.
Malfoy didn't speak. He watched Greengrass getting inside, then walked up closer to me and said:
"I was wrong. I think that Greengrass girl is up to something."
