Chapter 8 - Red

I Wish You Didn't Love Me

- Red -

All of my life I've followed other's paths. Not even questioning what path I wanted to walk on. Until one day I realized that I wanted to own my path, not just follow it. So I started my own business, and since the beginning, I was willing to give up on anything or anyone that could get in the way.

I've worked hard to get into the position I'm in right now. My friends slowly became less understanding of my decision in prioritizing work over anything. All but one person, Lena. Although I wasn't able to hang out with her a lot she understood that work was important to me because she's also working for her dream. She's always been there for me in every way. And I'll always be there for her.

"Are you sure you're gonna be okay?"

"Yes, I'm sure. Now hurry before you're late." I continued to try and push her out the door.

"Okay but don't refrain from calling me if you need me." Finally, she let me push her outside after the long struggle. I handed her her purse and waved goodbye. Reluctantly she got in her car and left.

After a long wait, Lena finally got permission to move into her new apartment. I'm sad that I can no longer see her when I get home from work. But I'm happy she gets to live in her dream home. I walked over to the couch and sat down. After a long day, I finally get to relax.

My mind suddenly started wandering off to what happened after my mother stormed out.

"How embarrassing!" I covered my face in shame. I had to make up an excuse when she left about a family emergency. Although they understood it still doesn't make the situation any better, this just sucks. We rescheduled the new meeting in two weeks.

How am I supposed to find someone and get married in two weeks?!

"It's gonna be okay. I need to relax." I'm gonna try watching tv, maybe that'll help. I grabbed the remote and began looking through channels trying to find something interesting.

And then that's when I saw it. Something that changed the course of my life forever.
