Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: James

"Well, the ultrasound is done and your baby is very healthy." Dr. Gilderoy says with a smile. It has been seven months since the baby was conceived and we are back to see Dr. Gilderoy for a checkup. "Now, this is a very exciting day for most couples, as this is the visit when gender and species is discernible. Would you like to know now, or wait?" I look over to Angela. "I'll leave it up to you honey. You're the one carrying it." Angela gives me a nod and turns to the doctor. "I would like to know now please." We both look at Dr. Gilderoy. "Ok then. You will be having a very healthy baby boy in about two months. Congratulations." "And you said species too, right?" I say to the doctor. "Oh yes, he has inherited most of his mother's genes, making him a wolf like her." Angela makes a small fist pump as if in victory. I roll my eyes sarcastically and turn back to the doctor. "Anything else we need to know?" "Nope. You two are good to go. I'll see you back here in another month." I help Angela off the bed, careful of the baby and we drive back home. "Can I name him?" I turn to her. "What?" "I asked if I could choose our baby's name." Oh, yes. So long as you don't name him something like Chaos I would be glad to let you name him." "Darn. That was my favorite one. Guess I'm all out of ideas." She gives me a sarcastic shrug and smiles. "Actually, I was thinking of the name James." "I really like that. James it is then. Now, lets have some lunch, because I have a surprise for you." "What?" "I can't tell you. It's called a surprise for a reason." "Alright, then whats for lunch?" "How does grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup sound?" "Ooo, that sounds delicious." I walk over to the kitchen and prepare the meal. "Well, how is it?" "You know it's delicious. Why do you even ask?" Says Angela with a mouthful of sandwich. "I guess I just like conformation. Meet me upstairs when you're finished." I leave and bolt upstairs, turning into a room on the right. A few minutes later I hear Angela coming up the stairs. "Richard? Where are you?" I walk up behind her and cover her eyes. "AH! Richard! What's going on?" "Just come with me. I promise you'll like it." "Ok, psycho." " I lead Angela around the corner and through the door of the room. "You know how I've been putting extra time into the truck lately?" "Yea." "That was a lie. I was actually working on this." I remove my hand from her face, revealing a nursery, painted in all light blue. On the left wall is a mural of cars, planes, and trains. In the corner is a wooden crib and next to it is a changing table. On the other side of the room is a matching wooden dresser, and a bookshelf sits along the back wall next to a toy chest. In the middle of the room is a large wooden train with three cars. One a light purple, one orangish red, and one that hasn't been painted yet. "Oh, Richard. This. T-this is beautiful." She wraps me in a tight hug. I can feel her crying softly on my shoulder, laughing along with the tears. "Thank you." "Anytime captain. Hey, did you notice the train?" "What about it?" "Each car is colored like the person it represents. Your car is purple, mine orange, and James' has yet to be colored. That train represents us as a family. All together." "That's so sweet. I can't wait for James to see this." "Me too" TIME WARP! "Alright, this is the last piece of the puzzle. Wanna put it in?" "I might need your help." Angela says as she attempts to lift the plaid bench seat off the floor. Together, we lift the seat into the truck, and bolt it down. "Wow. After almost two years, I'm finally done, with your help of course." "Anyti-OH!" I hear the splash of water on the floor and look over at Angela, who is doubled over, liquid dripping down her legs. "My water just broke." "OK OK OK OK, whoooooooooooo. Deep breaths Richard, deep breaths." "You ok over there crazy?" Ya, ya. I'm fine." "CAUSE I'M NOT!" "Right!" I pick Angela up and run her to the garage, placing her in the passenger seat of a 937_Wraith, a car of my own design. I fire up the 16 cylinder radial engine and floor it out of the garage, almost crashing into a wall. We merge onto the highway and I floor it even harder, reaching over 200 mph. "We're almost there just a few more minutes." "GO FASTER!" " You asked for it." I give the car all it has and fire off the highway into town, weaving through traffic like a maniac race car driver. We pull into the parking lot outside of Dr. Gilderoy's office and I rush Angela inside. "I NEED A DOCTOR AND A BED STAT CAUSE THIS WOMAN IS ABOUT TO HAVE MY CHILD!!!!" Dr. Gilderoy bursts through the door, "What's with all the commotion out here?" She looks at me and Angela, and her expression softens for a moment before getting serious again. She looks me dead in the eyes. " You know which room to go to. Get her there while I gather my supplies." She runs off back through the door and I follow, turning left and running into the delivery room. I lay the panting Angela on the bed as Dr. Gilderoy strides through the door with several nurses in tow. "Alright dear you're going to be ok." I take Angela's hand, "Do you want me here, or do you want me to leave." Please, stay." "Aye aye captain." "You're doing wonderful dear, just keep pushing. Almost there. Almost… and… POP" Angela howls with relieved delight. "Congratulations on your new baby boy." "Can I hold him?" says a panting Angela. "Of course dear, we're just going to get him cleaned up a bit, check his health, and so on." Dr. Gilderoy takes James over to a small table, checks some things, writes something on a clipboard, and swaddles James in a blanket before coming back over to us. She hands James to Angela, and she takes him, crying slightly. I shed a few tears out of my own sheer joy. "Still want his name to be James?" "Yes" We both say in unison. "Have a middle name in mind?" I look at Angela. "May I?" "You may." I turn to face Dr. Gilderoy, "We'll go with Ayrton. James Aryton Senna." "Got it." I turn back to look at Angela and James, smiling at my new family.
