Chapter 5 - Plans

Arkis: What are you doing?

He messaged me again? It's only been a few hours. Is he really as handsome as his pictures portray? This time I have questions prepared. I wasn't going to let him control the whole conversation again. I gave way too much information away. Laying on my bed in the middle of my studio apartment I replied.

Me: I just got home from work. You?

Arkis: Grabbing some lunch. You must be tired.

Me: I am. What's for lunch?

Arkis: I'm not sure what you'd call it. It's hardly edible. So you're planning on asking questions this time.

Me: How do you know that? I have prepared some. What do you mean not edible?

Arkis: I told you I just know things. I can't explain how or why. It's something plant based in the shape of real food.

Well, he's not vegetarian. Should I tell him that I eat a lot of plant based food? It's not like a life choice or anything. I just don't like to freeze and defrost meat. It's a laziness thing. I rolled onto my stomach now facing my door.

Me: What do you consider food?

Arkis: I'll show you sometime.

Me: Are you asking me on a date or trying to distract me from asking questions?

Arkis: Both. What do you want to know?

I have to many questions to ask. I was giddy. He was too charming, too good to be true. If I found one thing wrong with him would I give up? I thought carefully.

Me: What do you do for a living?

Arkis: If I tell you will you think I'm too good to be true?

It's like he reads my mind. How does he always do that. I might think he is if he keeps this up. The dots danced along by his name and stopped abruptly. He typed again and the dots squirmed once more.

Me: No. I might if you keep reading my mind like that.

Arkis: My job is to read people. You could say that I need market to a variety of people.

Me: OMG are you a drug dealer? Or are you saying that I'm just like everyone you market to since you read me so well.

Arkis: Haha. I've never gotten drug dealer before. I also don't think you're like anyone I know. Just because I can read you a little bit doesn't mean I know your whole story. Reading people is like looking at a glacier. You can see the surface but beneath is where the bulk of it lays. I can only predict what's at the surface.

Me: So you're a mind reader?

Arkis: I guess. Can I make plans to see you tomorrow night?

Me: What time? Where are you located?

Arkis: Is this your first time using Portal? The app has a interface that will send you my location at the date time. How's seven?

Me: What if I need to drive? I'll be late. Seven is fine.

Arkis: Don't worry, I'll wait for you. You won't be late though. My lunch break is over. Goodnight Kayla.

I was alone again but I was excited for my first date in a while. Arkis made me curious what it was like to date again. I definitely wanted to discover more about him. He seemed so confident and it felt a little infectious. I thought our time zones were different but maybe he just works nights since he seems to think I am close by. I scrolled through my social media. I wonder...

Internet Search: Arkis

Results: none

I guess he doesn't have any social media. Then why a dating app? Bones, my feline companion, hopped on the bed after hiding for some time under the couch. His silky black tail slinked around him as he laid beside me. Green eyes glared unrelenting until I rubbed my palm along the top of his head. A soft purr came from within.

"My motivation to give you the best life got me a date," I said rubbing his ears, "In sort of a round about way. You're the best cat."

"Meeeeowww," he seemed to say, I know, as he suddenly hopped of the bed. He slowly walked to the kitchen rubbing his body on every piece of furniture in his path. He was demanding food. He was at one time a very obese shelter cat. No one wanted to take on such a stubborn fat alley cat. I knew I had to bring him home after seeing him sitting like the Michelin Man. He was so fat he couldn't sit on his haunches normally so when he sat on his butt his legs sprawled out making him appear human like. I got him after not sleeping well the first few nights Tony left. He's still on a strict diet but I let him have a cheat day every once in a while as a thank you for quelling my loneliness. I think tonight is a night for a treat. My kitchenette was about four steps from bed and consisted of a sink and counter. I had a small mini fridge which I filled with produce and on occasion I bought Bones the fancy cat food that had to be kept cold. Unfortunately work had kept me from the store so he'd have to be satisfied with a treat. What would I do without such a good cat?
