Here we are. Outside of the Headmaster's office. I took a deep breath before walking in with Mr. Semko. From what I remember, the Headmaster in my world was short and stocky. He seemed harmless, and because of this, I figured he would be the same in this world. As we pushed open the door, we were greeted by the exact opposite. This man was huge. And by huge, I mean towering, and he was built like fine marble. Everything about his physical appearance was completely different. From clean shaven to a full white beard. Plump to raging muscles. I guess the only thing that stayed the same was that he was bald. The system of this world confused me. Some people had their names changed, some had their physical appearance change, and others, such as Mr. Semko, barely changed at all. My brain hurt just trying to figure it all out. As my inner thoughts, yet again got the best of me, Mr. Semko stepped forward to speak with the Headmaster.
"Good morning, Headmaster Yo."
Headmaster Yo? It used to be Young. I guess this world dropped the last three letters.
"Good morning, Eugene."
Eugene? That's Mr. Semko's first name? I definitely was not expecting that. He's usually so strict and ominous. Eugene just doesn't fit that description.
"I came to inform you that during the attribute test, this young student revealed an all white crystal. I assume that means he has no affinity for any of the attributes, thus we must enforce the school policy."
"An all white crystal you say?"
"Yes, sir."
"Is this true, boy?"
This is it. He's gonna expel me from the school now. What am I going to tell my mother. She is going to kill me. I know I'm not exactly a grade A student but, I do my best. Most of the time. I stepped forward in order to address the headmaster.
"Yes, sir. I had an all white crystal. I assume I'll have to leave the school now?"
As I sat there awaiting his response, he suddenly began to laugh. I was shocked, what could possibly be so funny about this situation.
"Sir, I don't believe this is appropriate."
"Appropriate? Eugene, if this boy truly didn't have any affinity for the attributes, the crystal wouldn't have activated at all."
"Then, what does an all white crystal mean?"
"I have to say, I'd never expect this to happen with a student. It's very rare to see this, especially from a first year. When the crystal turns all white, it just means that to much mana was released. If anything, it just shows that this boy has an incredible amount of mana."
Do my ears deceive me? Could this actually be true? I only released too much mana. In other words, there is still a chance for me to have an affinity towards an attribute. And on top of that, it looks like I have an abnormal amount of mana, which in this case, seems to be a good thing.
"Eugene, why don't you head back to class, I'll take care of young, huh? I don't believe I got your name, son."
"It's Soren, sir."
"Soren, right. well, off with you, Eugene."
"Very well, sir."
Mr. Semko left the office, leaving me alone with Headmaster Yo. I'd be overjoyed about my second chance if I wasn't still so intimidated by the tower of a man standing next to me. Seriously, how is he so big?
"Now, why don't we give your attribute test a second go."
"Yes, sir but, are you sure it will work?"
"As long as you don't over flow it with mana again, you should be fine."
He grabbed another crystal out of the cabinet and placed it on his desk, moving to the side to give me room.
"Now, place your hand over the crystal and, this time, imagine a tiny stream of mana flowing into it."
I step forward and put my hand out. I followed his very instructions, closing my eyes and picturing a small stream flowing into the crystal. This time, there was no huge, blinding blast. Instead, multiple circles began appearing in the crystal. First red, then blue, then green, orange, yellow and finally black.
"This- this is incredible. I can't believe what my eyes are seeing."
"Is it bad?"
"On the contrary. Soren, it would seem you have an affinity for all of the attributes."
My eyes flung open.
"Huh?"
Me, someone who, just previously, was labeled as attributeless, now, suddenly, had an affinity for each of the attributes. I couldn't believe it, not only was I able to use magic, but I was able to use every attribute too.
"This is something that I have only heard in legends. A mage of all affinities."
I took a minute to really soak this all in before turning to the Headmaster.
"So, what exactly does this mean?"
"Well, not only do you get to stay in this school, but you have also just become the rarest specimen in all of Saint Haven, possibly even all of Alodonis."
I wonder what every one would say when they found out I had an affinity for all the attributes? Especially Mr. Semko, since he originally passed me off as attributeless.
"Now, Soren, I have one request of you, now that we know the true extent of your power."
"Anything, sir."
"Keep this a secret. Only you and I should know of this information."
"But, why?"
"If the wrong person were to find out about this, who knows what they would try, it could possibly put your very life in danger. Instead you should pick between the attributes and don't tell anyone else about the rest. You can pick two even, but I would advise against using any more than that. At least, for now."
That's not scary at all. Though, As excited as I was about my new found abilities, I understood where he was coming from. It would probably be best if I just pick one or two attributes and pretend like they are the only ones that I have an affinity for. Of course, that's not going to keep me from learning about all the other ones. That would just have to be done on my own time in secret.
"I understand, sir. I'll keep it between us."
"Good. Now, get back to class and let them know of the attributes you got."
"Yes, sir."
As I walked back into the classroom, I was greeted by the gazes of everyone. Amidst the stare down, Mr. Semko made his way over to me.
"You're back?"
"Yes, sir. I've come to tell you that it turns out that I did have an affinity for an attribute. Actually, make that two attributes."
"What? Another double attribute? What are they."
"Light and Dark."
I mean, if I have to choose only two, I might as well go with the best ones. As I felt confident in my choices, Alexis interrupted.
"You expect us to believe that someone who was previously deemed attributeless, managed to turn around and get the two rarest attributes?"
"Believe it or not, it's true."
"Prove it."
"And just how would I do that?"
"I challenge you to a duel."
A duel. Under any other circumstance I would have loved to put Sir Von Ketchup in his place , however, I barely know how any of this works. Sure, I may have an affinity for each of the attributes but, i still don't know anything about magic or how to use it.
"No, there will be no duels. Today was strictly meant to be for finding our attributes and learning how to hone one's abilities. However, tomorrow will be a different story."
Once again, Mr. Ex-machina to the rescue.
"Fine then. Tomorrow, we will have a duel, and you can prove to us that these are your attributes. And even if you aren't lying, you still won't stand a chance against me."
It's funny. Wasn't this the guy who was previously saying how he would keep me safe. Even so, it doesn't seem like I have a real choice in the matter. However, since it is tomorrow, I'll have plenty of time to read up on the light and dark attributes along with the basics of how magic works. In my previous world, I never strived towards anything. In this world, I'm going to do things right. I'll learn everything there is and work towards becoming the strongest mage in all of Alodonis. Starting with beating the lord's arrogant son in a duel.
