Squeezing her left shoulder with her right hand, Lily stretched her neck and cracked her knuckles. She made her way to her desk where a stack of documents was waiting for her to review. Earlier, Shannel had placed them on her desk while she concentrated on the fake invitation card in her hand.
For the next two hours, Lily concentrated on the contracts in front of her. Using some programs on her iMac, she started calculating the results on the finance report. She compared the data on the document with the file she had on her screen. Taking a yellow place holder, she marked the areas where she thought revision was necessary.
After writing a few notes and sticking it on the last page of the document, Lily took a deep breath and stretched her arms upwards. She decided to give herself a small break before continuing the other documents in hand. The second she put her pen down on the desk, the FaceTime frame appeared on her screen.
"Grandpa?" She smiled and quickly accepted the call.
"Hi Grandpa!!!" Lily excitedly called out to the elderly man who looked like he was in his mid 50's on the screen.
"Haha. Hello, sunshine! How was your trip?" He always loved the way she cheerfully greeted him as if he was her friend. This showed how close their relationship was and it made his heart warm up immediately.
"It was fun! Next time, grandpa should come with us. The cherry blossoms were very pretty. The spas felt great too. There were foot massagers and many other services." Lily continued telling him about her stay in Japan until her phone vibrated. She looked down and saw that it was from Lin Que.
A dazzling smile appeared on her face as she unlocked her phone and viewed the notification. It was a photo of her luggage and a typed message: "Darling, what do you say about a dinner in exchange for your suitcase? My treat~"
"Pffft." She quickly texted him back, confirming their date tonight.
"Ahem." Her grandpa moved closer to the camera.
Lily placed her phone upside down on her desk and focused her attention on the screen. She gasped, "Grandpa! Did you get a facial lately? Your forehead is so shiny!"
"Hahahaha. You sure know how to tease your grandpa. Believe it or not; I used to have such thick hair when I was younger. It was one of the reasons why your grandma dated me. Talking about dating, was that your boyfriend just now?" He saw the way she smiled. The sweetness in her eyes and smile cannot lie.
"Nope. That wasn't my boyfriend." Lily also slipped her tongue and answered yes to her grandpa's inquiry. She smiled after seeing her grandfather's curious expression. "He is my fiancé!!! Look. Look! Isn't this pretty?"
She flipped her left hand and showed the engagement ring to the camera. Hearing his granddaughter's cheerful laughter made him laugh as well. He asked, "Ohh!!!! My baby girl is engaged!!!!! Hahahahaa, what great news! How did he propose?"
Lily started narrating like a child when she spread her arms in the air and gestured movements. Seeing how she giggled in her own world while telling him her experience, he knew she truly loved him. Through the look in her eyes, he could tell that the man also loved her dearly. The expressions on her face expressed how happy she felt at the moment.
"Grandpa!!!" Lily waved into the camera.
"Hmm?" He smiled at her.
"Were you listening?" She acted like a child who wanted his attention. Still, the excitement on her face couldn't be controlled.
"Of course. Go on with your story." Grandpa Jiang urged her to continue as he wanted to see her smile again.
"Grandpa, do you not like my fiancé?" A sudden doubt rose in her mind since her grandpa hasn't asked a single question about Lin Que. She had already decided that if her grandpa didn't like Lin Que, she would use millions of reasons to prove that Lin Que was her perfect match. Of course, there weren't any reasons for grandpa to not like him.
"Why would you say that?" Grandpa Jiang smiled mischievously as if he was waiting for her to talk about this topic.
"Because after speaking for almost half an hour, you haven't asked anything about him. Like his name or what he does for a living..." Lily was getting slightly worried because her grandpa's approval was very important to her. Without his approval, she would delay her wedding.
"Oh? Then what is his name?" Grandpa Jiang chuckled.
Almost instantly, Lily's face brightened up and the former smile appeared once again. Her smile curved like a crescent moon shape as she told him about Lin Que. " His name is Lin Que and- Wait a minute....Grandpa.." Her voice trailed off.
"Hmm?" He grinned playfully at her.
She squinted suspiciously at him and stood up. After a few seconds, she pointed at the camera with her other hand on her hips. "Grandpa! You tricked me!"
"Hahaha! Yep! I sure did! Sunshine, grandpa has something to say to you, so sit back down." He smiled gently and waited until Lily settled down.
"Lily, grandpa isn't a strict person. From the moment you answered his message, your expression gave it all away. When I asked you about him, your eyes and smile has expressed your feelings for him already. I can tell from the tone of your voice how great of a person he is. I am sure he is treating you with respect and care. Eventually, you'll have to bring him to greet me anyway. So, I won't need to ask anything. I'll find out eventually. As long as my precious granddaughter is happy and cheerful with him, I give you my full blessing."
Hearing the elderly man's speech made Lily's eyes burn. Her eyes turned red and she lowered her gaze. When she looked up again, she already wiped away the tears in her eyes and gave him the brightest smile she could ever give. This was the best response she could give to him after he had given her his blessing.
