The following morning, everyone met at the entrance of the resort. After double checking their rooms and luggages, they proceeded to the airport. On their way to the airport, Lin Que and Lily's parents told the youngsters that they were called to attend an important meeting overseas. Hence, they would not be on the same flight as them.
Lily, Lin Que and Lucas were shocked to find out about their parents' busy schedule. Their parents didn't want to ruin the fun, so they deliberately told the kids to go explore on their own while they dealt with work. The trip could've been postponed, but they decided to stay the entire vacation. It was a rare for everyone to find time to gather together.
When Toby saw the look on Lily's face, she smiled and comforted her. "Don't worry, there is nothing to worry about. It's been a while since we've had a family vacation. Plus, we witnessed you and Lin Que's engagement night. Do you know how happy we are?"
Yao Yao also added a few words on top of Toby's speech. "That's right. My blockhead son found me a beautiful daughter-in-law who were best friends with us. Work is work. Whether we deal with it earlier or later, it will still be there. Your engagement night is definitely the best gift for us. It's been a while since I've gone to a spa. Auntie is very happy."
Seeing the two of them comforting her, Lily's lips curved up. "Then, mom and auntie should find time whenever you can to come visit us again. I'll accompany you everywhere when you come back."
Lin Que took the opportunity to hold Lily's hand. "When you guys arrive overseas, give us a call. If there is any trouble, don't keep it to yourselves. We will assist you in any way if you ever need assistance. Who knows, maybe we will be the ones visiting you next time."
Lucas nodded in agreement. "I can't guarantee I'm as helpful as brother and sister-in-law, but I will help out as well!"
Yao Yao looked at her second son with a mischievous grin. "Oh? How will you help exactly?"
He patted his chest and smiled brightly. "I can hurry the process for bro to give you a grandchild!"
"Pffft..Hahahaha" Everyone laughed when he spurted those words out loud. Lily's face turned bright red when she heard Lucas' remake. Meanwhile, Lin Que responded with a cheerful smile as he looked at his fiancée with a meaningful gaze.
It took half an hour for the taxi to arrive at the airport. Once everyone settled down with their tickets clipped between their passports, they gave each other a tight hug. After some time, they heard their flights being called. Just like that, the group separated into three groups.
Coincidentally, Lin Que and Lily's parents shared the same flight. On the other hand, Lucas had to travel back to school to accept his fifty page reflection paper as punishment for ditching the school trip. Lily, Lin Que, Alan and Ginny were on the same flight.
The flight traveling back was more peaceful and less exciting compared to their flight going to Japan. In a blink of an eye, the couples were back at the airport where they originally travelled from.
After retrieving their luggage, Lily took out her personal cellphone. During vacation or short trips, Lily had a habit of using a different cellphone than her usual one. Hence, the first thing she thought about was to turn on her personal cellphone and send her parents a message. Even if they don't have signal to receive her message, at least they'll see it when they land.
Lily's phone brightened up as the apple icon popped up on her screen. In the following seconds, she unlocked her phone using her passcode. Her smile tightened at the sight of her three-month-old Apple cellphone glitching. When she tried pressing on the text message icon on her phone, the app opened halfway and froze.
"Uh- my phone...just froze on me." Lily muttered as she blinked at her unresponsive phone. She looked up helplessly at Lin Que as she restarted her phone again. The same thing happened the second time she turned on her phone.
"Let me see." Lin Que took the phone from her hand and waited a few minutes after restarting it to access her apps. Before the app could open on her screen, it froze once again. When it froze, he noticed that she had a lot of notifications from many apps.
"Your phone has a lot of spam. See? You have over a hundred missed calls, five hundred plus emails, six hundred fifty-five snapchat notifications, four hundred plus text messages, three hundred fifty Instagram messages, three hundred twenty-two messages from WeChat and two hundred fifty-one Line messages. Damn, there is more, but this is probably why your phone froze. Who could this be?"
Seeing the number of messages on her phone made his head ache. Whoever this person was, he or she must've been desperate to look for Lily.
Although the chances were low, Lily decided to go straight to her office instead of taking the rest of the day off. She was afraid that something went wrong with the company while she was gone. Even though her assistant contacted her through emails while she was in Japan, she couldn't feel relaxed if she didn't stop by her office today.
"I'm going straight to my office." She said.
"Alright, then I'll drop you off there. Alan, Ginny, do you two need a ride?" Lin Que helped Lily put her luggage in the trunk of the car.
Alan shook his phone screen, showing an Uber ride on its way. "Thanks for your offer, but I've already ordered one. Don't worry, Lily. I'll send Ginny home safely."
Lin Que suggested, "then we will wait for your ride to come first. Just in case you get into the wrong car."
"Pffft, am I a five year old kid to you?" Alan laughed jokingly at his friend's concerned expression. Hearing nothing but silence from Lin Que's side, Alan put his palm in front of him. "Never mind, don't answer that."
