Counting the seconds on his phone screen, he watched the numbers go up. They've been on the phone for almost forty minutes already... 'Does he think owning a hospital is easy? I still have to work to pay bills!'
Lin Que: "Shouldn't you get ready for your date?"
Alan: "Bruh, I've been ready since ten in the morning. I'm already at the meet up location. I'm nervous."
Lin Que almost choked on his saliva when he heard Alan's whining voice. He responded, "My goosebumps are spreading. What are you nervous about? Didn't it go well last time? Besides, you've never been this hype for your previous girlfriends."
Alan: "The main point is right there! She's not my girlfriend. At least.. not yet. Anyways, I want to confirm whether she likes me or not today. It went well last time because there were too many people. Today is different. There's barely anyone on the streets in this neighborhood."
Lin Que: "Then ask her out."
Alan: "If it is as easy as you say it, then I wouldn't be talking to you right now. By the way, did you chase Lily or did she ask you out herself?"
Lin Que went quiet as he rewinds his memory. "It was natural from both sides." In other words, he thought their feelings were mutual, and that they would have became a couple sooner or later. He didn't mention the details, but this answer was enough to pacify Alan's nervousness.
Alan sighed, "I'm so envious of you. What does she like? Should I get a bouquet of flowers? Or should I grab drinks for her in case she's thirsty from traveling? Maybe street snacks? Should I order two movie tickets? Ah, but I don't know if she wants to watch any movies in theaters right now. What if the chairs aren't comfortable enough?"
Lin Que had never felt as helpless in his years of studying medicine. Though people often mentioned about how difficult the medical field was, he felt it was within doable. Right now, Alan was throwing question after question at him and he has no answers for any of them.
Leaning his head backwards, he asked, "Alan, what are you mainly worried about? Is it her feelings for you or how to act during a date? Either way, you have experience in both."
Alan: "But what if I make a move on her, and it offends her? It'll be so embarrassing!!!"
Lin Que: "Then hold her hand again when there are little to no people. Maybe hold her hands when crossing the sidewalk."
Alan: "You think I haven't thought about that already? I want to know what she likes. Can you help me ask Lily?"
Lin Que: "I'll text her and let you know when I get a response."
Alan: "Then, I'll wait for your response. Quickly hang up and call her. Don't text. She might not respond till midnight!"
Before he could tell him that she should be working right now, Alan hung up.
Lin Que heard the beep from his phone and frowned. "Sigh, at least I'm off the hook for now."
Looking at the time, Lin Que remembered Lily's work schedule. He waited another fifteen minutes before giving her a call. On the first ring, she picked up.
Lily: "Hello?"
Lin Que: "Are you busy right now?"
Lily: "Mmmm, not yet. Why? Do you miss me?"
Lin Que: "Mm. I missed you and wanted to hear your voice."
Lily: "Hahaha, what sweet words. Very well. Tell me~ What do you need?"
Lin Que: "Remember my friend, Alan?"
Lily: "En. I do."
Lin Que: "He's going on a date with your friend, Ginny. He wants to know what she likes."
Lily: "Oh, so he wants to know. There's a price to everything. How about a lunch with me?"
Lin Que: "Sure. When are you free?"
* Knock Knock *
Lin Que: "Hold on, someone is at my office door."
Opening the door, he sees Lily smiling while waving her hand. "Is Doctor Lin ready for his lunch break?"
Surprised by her sudden visit, he watched her put away her phone. Turning his head left and right down the hallway, he checked to see if anyone was walking around. When he saw the empty hall, he pulled her into his embrace and kissed her forehead. "You're here."
Wrapping her arms around his waist, she looked up and made a duck lip with her eyes closed. Smiling, he bent down and kissed her lips. Slowly, her arms migrated from his waist to his shoulders. Her hands didn't allow his head to shift away from kissing her. As she devoured his lips for the days of not seeing him, she also enjoyed such sweetness bursting in her heart.
Finally, she separated her lips from his when she grew tired of tiptoeing. Both of them were running out of breath as they hugged each other.
"What do you want to eat for lunch?" He pinched the tip of her nose gently.
"You choose. Whatever the cafeteria is serving today. You have enough time for lunch right?" She checked the time to make sure she wasn't breaking any rules.
"I have." While holding each other's hands, they walked down to the cafeteria. On their way, Lin Que continued his question from before. "Right, what does Ginny like?"
"Ah, she loves to read and drink bubble tea. She also likes pets." Lily described Ginny's hobbies and habits. She secretly wishes both of them luck to find courage during the date to get to know each other more. Lin Que typed everything Lily had said out loud and sent it to Alan.
"Oh yeah, didn't you say you had work today?" Lin Que asked as he checked his calendar to confirm the memorized dates of her work schedule.
"Yep, but it was changed last minute because of some miscommunication problem. Aren't you happy with my surprise?" Lily stopped walking two steps above where he was standing. Turning around to face his girlfriend, he smiled, "Of course. I am very happy."
"Hehe. Good. Good. I missed you so so so much. Let's go eat." She continued walking down the stairs while swinging their interlocked hands.
At the same time, in front of a certain bubble tea store, Alan received the long text on his phone. He managed to read the first line of his message, which said, "Loves to read."
'Loves to read? Maybe a love letter then?' He thought to himself as he scrolled down the long message.
Just as he wanted to read the rest, he heard Ginny's voice and hurriedly stuffs his phone into his pocket. He looked up and felt a huge attack striking his heart. 'I'm finished. It's done for.'
The smile on her face, color of her lips, way she was dolled up for the date truly stunned him. All he could hear at this moment wasn't her voice, but his heartbeats...going... 'Bathump..bathump..bathump..'
As if a stopped clock had started running again, his heart could not be stopped from beating for her.
"Did you wait long?" Ginny's voice rung his ears, making him jump back to reality. He smiled sillily and rubbed the back of his neck, "I just got here."
