Since Lily had been stuck in the hospital room for half a day, she decided to take the slower route to exercise her legs. Step by step, she walked down the stairs. It took her ten minutes to reach the garden. From the emergency exit, she could see Hawk waiting impatiently.
Taking a deep breath, she walked in large steps towards him. "I'm here."
"Finall-," words were caught in his throat when he saw her dressed in a patient's outfit.
From the second floor, Lin Que had just finished checking on his patients. On his way back to his office, he caught sight of Lily taking a walk in the garden. Halting his steps, his eyes focused on the girl who seemed to be walking weirdly.
"Well, at least she is out of her room."
Stuffing his hands to his white coat, he took a step forward to the glass window to take a closer look at where she was going. His smile froze when he saw her approaching a man who seemed to be waiting for her.
"Could he be her boyfriend?"
Frowning at that thought, he decided to observe from where he was standing. From the way she looked, it didn't seem like she was happy to see him.
Meanwhile, Lily had her arms crossed while glaring at Hawk, "What did you just say?"
"Nothing. What took you that long?" He tried holding his tongue and not spit out words that he shouldn't be saying. While he spoke, he texted somebody before putting his phone away.
"I took the stairs. Why? Was ten minutes longer than your hour of lateness?" She reminded him of his tardiness from last time to shut him up.
"I'm not here to argue with you. Let's have a talk." He looked slightly troubled when she mentioned their date.
"Sure. What do you want to talk about?" In the four years of their relationship, she had never showed him this type of cold attitude. He wasn't used to her acting this way.
Since he remained quiet, she let out a yawn. "If you don't want to say anything, then we have nothing to talk about. Visiting hours are almost up. Either spit it out or leave it."
In the past, she used to hold back her temper because she didn't want to ruin his mood. Now that he was being dishonest with her, she didn't have to consider his feelings anymore.
"Lily, let's take a break from each other."
"Oh. Why?" Subconsciously, her hands formed into a fist.
"The reason is very simple. I'm still young, and I want to explore the different choices I have out there. Don't worry about the promises that I've made to you. We will still be together, just not now. Our plans on getting married by the time we turn thirty years old is still active. I'll come back to marry you after I explore."
"So, let me get this straight. You want to have a valuable sex life with other women. Out of all the reasons there are, you chose the lamest one. If you don't want to be in a committed relationship, you should just admit it. We don't even need to be on a break. I'll give you the easiest way out. Let's break up."
After stating what she wanted to say, she turned around to leave. Seeing her turn the other way as if their relationship was nothing to her, he jerked her arm.
"Wait."
"What else do you want?" She looked at him with dullness in her eyes.
"I've already said I will fulfill our promise. I didn't go back on our words. So, why did you mention breaking up?"
"Because our goals are no longer on the same path. Your definition of a relationship is to fool around and then settle with me because it is convenient. As for me, a relationship is between two people from the beginning till the end. I am not a second choice. Nobody should be."
Saying that, she looked at the hand that's tightly gripping on her wrist. "Let go."
"Lily, you're always my first choice. If you were my second choice, then you wouldn't be a part of my future plan. Honestly, compared to my friends, I've been the most patient one. They all have girlfriends and have already had sex after going out for the first few months. As for us? Four years. It's been four years and you are still so stuck up about being not ready."
"Ah, so you're going to say that you are only trying to satisfy your sexual desires. Sorry, but I'm not a prostitute and am not interested in fulfilling your insatiable yearnings. Correct, I did object to having intimate acts with you, but the problem isn't about being married or not." She struggled to wiggle out of his grip.
"Then what was the problem?"
"You were the problem and time proved it right. I don't think being a virgin is that important to a relationship and if I wanted to, I could have done it already. The reason why I didn't get that far with you is because you never gave me the security and confidence that you were worth it. And from what you said just now, we definitely aren't compatible."
Loosening his grip on her reddened wrist, he backed away from her. Scratching the back of his head, he said in an unpleasant tone, "Anyways, I just wanted to have more experience with others to satisfy you in bed later on. Talking about this relationship, it is indeed quite a joke. I wasn't even allowed to touch her chest. My hands get slapped away."
Rubbing her aching wrist, she wrapped up their conversation with slightly moist eyes. "If you loved me, you would've waited without having any distracted thoughts about other girls. The plan of getting married by thirty years old is still on."
He smiled when he heard her response as if he was mocking her for falling for his words again. She continued after taking a deep breath, "But the person who would walk down the aisle and say the vows will never be you. I will have my own family, and you do whatever you want with your life. As of this second, we are no longer in a relationship. You can have the freedom that you wished for."
Watching her attempt to leave once again, he gritted his teeth. He walked right in front of her and said, "You always like acting as a victim. You're such a fake bitch. Always pretending to be what you aren't and saying positive things to my ears. This is how I've been all along. You just never knew this part of me. Did you think that I wanted to meet other girls? If you could satisfy me, then I wouldn't have to stoop this low."
Smiling with a smile that didn't reach her eyes, she whispered, "I really pity you. It's not that I forced you to stoop this low, but you who made this choice. Maybe you should look back on how many times I've cried in front of you. I can count it for you; just once. Whether I'm playing the victim or not, it no longer has anything to do with you."
Just like that, she walked away without turning back. On the other hand, he was the one who started to kick rocks from the floor out of anger.
Lin Que became furious when he saw that the man had tried to stop her from leaving. He could tell that they were having a fight, and she didn't look well. She wanted to leave after talking to him, but he chased after her.
He was so close to running down and snatching her away from him even if it means that it would cause a scene. At the end, she managed to leave him on the spot. Sighing in relief, he walked down the stairs to look for her.
