Chapter 14 - First Time Ditched Like This

Around midnight, Lily's phone rang a few times. Unlocking her phone using her fingerprint scan, she clicked into her text messages.

Hawk: "Congratulations on graduating this semester."

Hawk: "I overslept today and figured that since I'll be late anyways, I should just send you a message later tonight. You wouldn't mind right?"

Hawk: "I saw the pictures from your social media. You looked quite happy today. It didn't make a difference between me being there and not there."

Hawk: "Anyways, you might be celebrating with your friends and family right now. So, let's make up for that date from two months ago. How about tomorrow?"

Reading these messages made her lips twitch upwards. Facing such straightforward idiocy, could she literally just facepalm and pretend that it didn't annoy her? After thinking for a while, she texted the following texts to him.

Lily: "As your girlfriend, if I overslept for your ceremony, I would still hop my ass over. I would still take pictures with you because it is a special moment. Even if I am originally not free that day, I would still make time for you. Oversleeping is not an excuse."

Lily: "Rather than sending me a text and congratulating me, you could have given me a call. No matter how busy I am with my family and friends, I would always pick it up. A few minutes would be more than enough to congratulate me."

Lily: "Social media posts are always showing the positive side of me. There is a very huge difference whether you showed up or not because it shows how much you care for me. In this case, I'm not really sure if you really cared for me enough. Anyways, I'll see you tomorrow since I'm free."

Hawk: "Okay. See you tomorrow at 2 P.M."

From the corner of her eyes, Toby caught the slight frown on her daughter's face. Worried about her sudden change of mood, she stopped the music and walked over to see if everything was alright.

"Dear, why are you frowning? Are you feeling ill?"

Ginny also saw the frown on her face and focused on the phone in her hands. "Did that jerk finally had the heart to send you a text?"

Bullseye!

"Your instincts are quite amazing. He just sent me a congratulations text and said he overslept today. We're going on a date tomorrow." For someone who hasn't seen her boyfriend for almost two months, her voice did not reveal any sparks of excitement. It sounded more like she was obligated to go on this date tomorrow.

Toby did not like his excuse at all. She spoke strictly, "What boyfriend wouldn't come to his girlfriend's ceremony? Even if he was late, he could have met you after the ceremony and take some pictures together. How many years have you guys been together? Like four? Five years? I don't see him feeling bad at all from this."

Ginny nodded and commented on the situation, "You really need a talk with him tomorrow."

Lily untangled the tips of her hair and said, "At least he still remembers that I have booked a reservation since four months ago for the Szechuan Spicy Bowl restaurant around our area. Tomorrow is our anniversary, so I hope he is trying to make it up to me."

Ginny crossed her arms and leaned back to the counter, "He better try to make it up. If not, I'll beat his ugly face to pulps. He owes me a load of debt for what happened last time. I'm still angry about it."

Before she could slip her tongue about the picture insult situation from last time, Lily cleared her throat as a warning. Hearing her interruption, Ginny swallowed her rants back down her throat and said, "I need to use the bathroom."

After Ginny had excused herself, Toby brought Lily to the couch where she had a heart to heart conversation with each other.

"Dear, tell mommy honestly. Is this relationship going downhill? Do you still like this man?" Her voice was much gentler, making Lily calmer than before.

"I don't know. We've been together since high school and I only focused on him. Recently, I realized that we are getting more and more distanced. I wanted to give it a try, but if it doesn't work out, then I can only give it up." The sadness in Lily's eyes gave her emotions away even though there was a forced smile on her face.

Caressing her daughter's face, Toby's heart ached, "As long as you know what you want, mommy will always support you. But if I see a deep puddle in front, I will hold you back. Understand?"

Lily hugged her mother and nodded, "Yes. I know."

The following morning, Lily woke up in a great mood and took her time drawing her eyebrows. Within twenty minutes, she finished applying sunscreen on her skin, drawing her brows and blending out the lip tint on her lips.

"I'm heading out!" She yelled from the entrance.

"Okay! Have fun!!" Ginny and Toby responded from the kitchen as they set out the table for lunch.

Lily got to the meet up destination a little before 2 P.M. She decided to text Hawk to see when he would get to her.

Lily: "I got here early. Where are you right now?"

Hawk: " Oh...I just woke up."

Lily: "... You're kidding me, right?"

Hawk: "Don't fuss about it. I'll get out of my house and drive there. I'll be late for like 10-15 minutes."

Lily frowned and sighed as she walked around the park while waiting for him. At 2:20 P.M., she walked back to where they were supposed to meet and he wasn't there yet. A deep frown appeared on her face as she sat on the bench.

2:56 P.M.

Hawk walked casually to where she was sitting and said, "Sorry, I'm a little late."

"You call this little?" The word, displease, was written across her face as she tapped on her watch to show him how late he was.

"Not my fault that there was traffic." He said with an indifferent tone and turned his body to a different direction to avoid seeing her face.

After ten minutes of silence, he didn't show any signs of stepping down his mighty stage to comfort her. She let out a huge sigh and said, "Forget it. Let's walk. It's our anniversary today, so I don't want to argue with you over lateness."

As they took a stroll in the park, they still hadn't said much to each other. Compared to the couples on the side who were holding hands and enjoying nature's view, he was smiling at his phone screen. That smile was all it took to tick her off once again because that was the type of smile that he showed years ago when they first started dating!

"Who are you texting?" She asked suspiciously.
