Chapter 219 - Descend

"This is the last one," Liu Sumeng repeated as he sent Chu Mirong a testing glare.

In the carriage jostled. The lighting was dim, and Chu Mirong sat in the small space opposite him with a lazy smile on her lips. It wasn't yet night outside, but with the ever-present clouds that were cast upon the sky, it was hard to tell the difference between noon and evening.

"This is the last one," Chu Mirong confirmed. 

The road was bumpy, and Liu Sumeng would have much rathered to walk on foot. But Chu Mirong insisted that it was better this way and after taking a look outside, he knew that she hadn't merely spoken out of laziness. 

They traversed a swampy marsh. A strange sweet scent wafted up from the muddy ground, bits of bones and other rotting bits of flesh floating about the surface. A poor deer was trapped in the mud, hooves, and head flailing as its lower half sank deeper and deeper.
