Chapter 24 - Special Corps

My knees to buckle but I held on, it was a similar and oppressive force I felt near Lady Silvia when she got mad.

I quickly tapped by forehead, something I haven't done in a long time, and was hit with a massive shadow of a dragon that was made of data. It almost knocked me out again.

[I advise you to stop doing that. Though it is useful in certain situations, I can passively collect data regardless of you using this vision. It would be unwise for you to faint again from another suddden influx of data.]

Emperor Aragon smiled before re-transforming back to his human form and returning to his seat.

"So, Deus." The aura died down as Emperor Aragon spoke. "How would you like to start off as a Lieutenant of the hmm... Which Magi Brigade seems the most appropriate?" He looked around and asked.

"I suggest the Phoenix brigade my lord, he has talent in the energy branch of magic and fire should be his specialty as well." One of the magi guards, wearing a robe with a phoenix insignia, spoke out.

"Nonsense, I suggest the Torrent brigade. He has already half-mastered the water element and should learn to master it. The Torrent brigade has the capabilities to allow for that. " Another magi guard, wearing a blue robe, spoke out.

"Good suggestions, anyone else?" The Emperor asked again.

"I..." A magi, wearing a very simple and traditional robe with no decorations, spoke out. "Suggest the the special corps."

"!!!"

A silence rang throughout the room.

"Hahahahaha!" Emperor Aragon bellowed out. "I like that. An Aether Magi shouldn't be shackled to a specific elemental brigade, the special corps seems fitting!"

"But Empe-" The magi guard who was wearing the robe with the Phoenix insignia tried to speak up but was cut off.

"Silence!" The Emperor roared. "Deus, hear my orders, you are hereby granted the rank of a Lieutenant. You are to immediately head to the Special Corpse, coordinates will be given to your master and she will teleport you there as they're always on the move and quite far away. You will go through a month of training within the corpse and 2 months of basic missions before becoming a full fledged solider. Dismissed, Yohan take him away and settle him in until Silvia arrives."

"Bu-" I tried to rebuke but was quickly silenced away by another explosion of aura.

"I'll explain the rest to you, follow me." The magi with the average robes quickly lead me away.

The man named Yohan quickly lead me out from the main palace and into a smaller building on the side. There seemed to have been many magi within the building as we quickly walked on to a secure room, too fast for me to ask any questions on the way.

But enough for me to ask A.I at least.

'Is this a good idea A.I?'

[I do not know, I require more information about this army to calculate the safety of this proposition.]

'Ugh, it's not like I have a choice anymore do I? Chances are I'll be labeled as a deserter if I leave like this. What kind of emperor personally decrees a person into the army...'

We arrived in a small room which had a small desk with 2 chairs and a bed. Nothing else.

"Sorry about the whole ordeal but here, have a seat." Yohan pulled out a seat as he sat upon the opposite side.

"You're the one that suggested the special corpse... I have a lot of questions I have to ask." I stared at the man, he had short blonde hair and a pair of brown eyes. No facial hair but various scars upon his chin that descended down inside his robes.

"Let me introduce myself first Deus. I am Yohan, the ex leader of the Special Corpse and the head of the Imperial Magi. Let me speak for a bit I'll get to all your questions if you have any remaining afterwards."

"Head of th... Alright." I nodded as I listened on.

-----

"The special corpse... Aragon, even with his head full of muscle, does come up with interesting ideas from time to time. Though chances are it came from someone else, probably Hei or Yohan..." Lady Silvia sat behind her desk as she read lines that were floating in thin air.

These words seemed to be made of pure mana and were extending out from a small crystal orb that sat upon the corner of her desk that one would simply mistake as decoration.

"Using the dragon crystal to deliver such a short message. Humph." Lady Silvia flicked her fingers as the words dispersed. "And now I have to head to the capital myself, what the hell was the point in sending Deus in the first place gah!"

Lady Silvia spoke out with slight annoyance and walked towards the door, grabbing ahold of a small communications device. "Mertho, I'm leaving for the capital for two days."

"Understood Lady Silvia." Mertho's voice echoed in from the other side, this device was surprisingly similar to the modern cellphones that Deus would relate it to if he was here.

Of course except the fact that it was powered and worked by magic.

"Aragon, I'm going to bash his head in. He knows how much I hate going outside my tower and he wants me to come all the way to the capital just to teleport Deus away. Special Corpse my butt humph." Lady Silvia, without packing a single thing, jumped out the window from her room before disappearing.

A shadow of a dragon passed by the night sky.

-----

I sat upon a bed in a small room which was similar to Yohan's as I thought.

I had learned quite a lot, Yohan had explained enough and had answered all, well most, of my questions.

1. The Special Corpse was a special army unit. It was unlike the normal corpse that held tens of thousands of soldiers and only had around a few dozen people at most. Currently around 30 or so in the camp and 20 or so on missions. It was a special task force of elites that moved from place to place and carried out special assignments that were requested by various forces within the empire that needed a small elite team. The lowest rank of this corpse being a Lieutenant and currently being lead by a colonel rank Magi.

Also unlike the other army subdivisions, it had both a mix of magi and warriors. It also had assassins and archers. It was basically a place anyone who was an elite in their field or had special traits that prevented them from fitting in the normal scope of the army.

2. During the month long basic training, I will be going through general military practices and rules as well as learning codes of conduct and learning what to do in emergencies. During the next two months, I'll be following a captain rank member around and doing basic missions such as: Scouting, infiltrating and gaining intel and possibly assassination as well.

Once this was over, I'll be granted a certain amount of freedom and will be allowed to select certain missions and assignments. After a year of the service, I'll have a choice of whether I'll stay or be discharged.

3. Yohan was a Magi who mastered the majority of the physical elements, he had taught me the basics of the element he was most confident in Earth. He also gave me a small bottle of iron sand which was just sand except it was made of small iron particles. He told me to practice with this until I am able to manipulate more.

The reason for this iron sand was because of the fact that all metals were part of the earth element and theoretically could be controlled by an earth magi. Iron was the easiest to control out of the metals and a heavy amount for practice could be carried around in a relatively small volume.

I also had a few other questions such as when I'll be deployed or questions about other elements but all I got in return was, wait for tomorrow for news regarding deployment. As for the elements, he had no comment outside the earth element.

[Chances are, Lady Silvia will arrive tomorrow morning.]

'How do you know that? Is she going to teleport her way over? How did they notify her?'

[The only person that can 'deploy' you instantly is Lady Silvia. Yohan said you will be deployed tommorow, wouldn't Lady Silvia be here by then to deploy you?]

'...Good deduction. I guess I can only wait.'

[And practice the earth element, do not get lazy.]

'Why do I feel like you've stopped trying to get me out of this damn world and leaned towards trying to make me a more powerful magus?'

[Because the more you experience, the more data I'll have to work with. And with strength comes experience. As for getting you out, it is not within my power as I have repeated over and over. There is a small blockade preventing me from accessing the net or the core data of the game.]

'The same answers no progress, sigh...'

[Work harder if you want to leave that badly, you seem to be enjoying your time here as well from what I can see.]

'True. It is kind of fun. it's like playing a game.'

[It is a game doctor.]

'...Shush.'
