Time spent on the sea was interesting in its own way.
That is not at all.
I hated it, and for another week, I lay down in bed, healing. That was it. I had to hold myself together, but my body did the rest. A part of me wished I had paid more attention in school to biology. Would I have been able to heal faster if I could picture cells and all that stuff multiplying inside me?
But I couldn't, and my knowledge from my past life failed me. Instead, I probably did what all other high-rankers did in this world. Hold themselves together and let their bodies do the rest. When it finally finished enough that I trusted it. I spent time practicing and getting back into shape, recharging my energy. It took another two days before I walked up to the lich and ordered them to bring me back to shore.
That began my boring journey of watching the ocean while training more.
The Lich had been keeping my new slave, who was softening up slowly. We were feeding her little and not really caring about her condition. She quickly realized the state of affairs on this boat was the worst thing possible for someone in her position. That being said, I was going to take her ashore.
So, with another couple of days before, the undead rowers fought the wind and came up to land close enough for it to matter. It was not like I could just end up anywhere, though, so we coasted for a bit until we found a larger town that had docks on it. That would be my destination, and the Lich and I sat down on our last day.
"So, our plans are working forward. I am going to take this bitch back with me. I already have her all packed up in a box, blindfolded, and ears blocked. The most she will be able to do is eat the food I force down her throat. So, we drop the cutter, and I row back in the night. Simple," I said, and the Lich nodded.
"You know what to prioritize with the other necromancers?" I asked.
"Yes, of course, goods—not treasures but goods that can be sold. Luxury items will need to be stored for a few months on a base we set up and then brought in on a ship. We will steal a ship and start to make it look legit with criminals, and then we will bring the loot on shore for you to distribute and sell."
"Perfect, we're on the same page. This is going to get complicated," I told the Lich. This is going to be a long mission, and I think we should establish that you come to shore and meet me for a meeting every one to three months."
"Why must I meet you?" The lich asked.
"Because I am going to be busier, trust me. I would take your job over mine." I half lied, "I would rather be out here, fighting, killing, plundering, and getting more powerful on a boat than back dealing with everything to keep the authorities off your back. I will need to find a backer to keep people from sniffing you all out. Understand? I am looking for ways to grease the right palms to stop the army from knocking on your doors as you plunder. Slowly build up your plundering."
"Understood," The Lich said in thought. "Okay, I will come to you. How do you want me to see you."
"The brothel I took over. You will walk up and order a thunder whipping to the person at the front. I will have that mean for us to meet at the closest inn that night. It should not be a problem."
"Okay," The Lich said. Now, I want what I want to have shipped out to me in the next shipment."
The Lich went over a wish list that they wanted, and I nodded along. I took a paper and found out the reasons for it. Apparently, there was a way to strengthen corpses, and they would also be in contact to get building supplies for wherever they made their base.
The meeting lasted for a bit, then we just stopped talking and ate. It seemed that the Lich did not want to open up about themselves, and I did not want to open up about myself. Which made for terrible conversation, and so as night fell, I hopped onto the cutter loaded with supplies and my new bitch, and we dropped onto the sea, and I started to row us ashore in the night, following the lights of the town.
The sound of the waves lightly hitting the cutter into the night was nice and soothing as I made my night trek. It was going to be dangerous once I was back. I had no idea what I would be getting into or what would happen, but it would come once I was there.
Stoke.
Stroke.
Bloody fucking stroke.
For hours, I rowed us back until the night grew dark. Then I found that I was really close to shore and that the patrols were not light. I was not going to land at the docks, though. There were not many people walking around, and there were only a couple of ships.
Hitting the shore made me lunge forward a bit, but I hopped out, grabbed the boat, and pulled it in, so I would not lose my things. I beached the cutter, and I was just at the end of the piece but close enough to function the way I wanted.
This place was perfect, and I quickly moved and hunted in the small town. I found my happiness at a small in with a stable. There was a carriage half full of things and two study-looking horses. A short young man was tending to them, and I walked up and killed the young man before he even knew what was happening. His throat was slit, and I ensured the blood would not get all over me by forcing his head down as I did so. I lowered him into the hay, then pulled his head back up and covered him in the hay. It was a rough job, but the kid should not have been working this late.
Speed was of the essence, and I grabbed the horses, which seemed moderately well-trained and followed me without issue. I hooked them to the carriage and quickly set them down the road to the end of the pier.
Overall, the night was anticlimactic. I picked up my stuff and pushed the cutter out into the water a bit, then flipped it. I got wet doing so, but I did not care, as I did not want people to know where I might have come from. I hopped up into the carriage, and I headed out with my new things in the carriage, moving down the road.
"Where are the damned guards?" I asked myself as I was traveling down the road. "I swear I saw their patrols as I was coming in."
Then, I saw the all-out brawl with a dozen species fighting each other at a tavern. The guards were there combating what seemed to be a couple of strong people wanting to raise a fuss.
My luck could not have been better as I headed down the streets to the front of the town. They were there to ensure animals stayed out. "Hey!" suddenly one of them said as I came up, and I stopped my carriage.
"What the fuck are you doing riding this early in the morning?" The Guard asked. His partner sighed.
"To be honest, I am late getting out," I told the guard, "I got this order yesterday, and some of my people quit on me, saying my pay was too low, the ungrateful bastards. So, I took longer than I wanted to get this thing out on my own. Now, I will be late if I don't put in a couple of extra hours, at least in the morning and at night. I kind of want to get it all done in one day and night and skip an Inn making it there. If I time it right, I should be able to make it there just a little early for the small bonus for an early delivery."
My smile was bright, and the guard looked at the back of the carriage, "A little light?" He asked.
"Yup, not a full order; if it wasn't a rush job that a messenger sent me with a rush fee added," I grinned, "Then I would be on an Incubus down at the tavern instead of miserable riding a carriage back into the open road."
"You beast-kin. I like that about you; I would rather be with a Succubus myself. They suck that energy out of you and, Mmmm, Mmmm," The guard smiled, "Go on, I won't hold you here anymore. Good luck on the road."
"Quick question," I said before leaving as the guard turned around. Did you happen to hear of anything I should be worried about? I'd like a silver coin for your patience."
I held up a coin and tossed it to him, and he smiled. " Something big happened in the capital a couple of weeks back, so the security there has gotten so much better. The guards just swept up a couple of small-time bandits on the road. You should be smooth sailing, honestly."
"That sounds amazing, worth the silver for the peace of mind."
"Stay to the main roads, though."
"Noted," I said with a grin that quickly turned to a frown of exhaustion before leaving. The guards were no longer an issue, and I continued on my way without issue for now. My smile quickly turned to glee as I hoped the entire trip was this clean.
