I woke up when an arm suddenly hit me in the gut. Alex stirred in bed but remained asleep. I rolled from under his arms and went out of the room. Josh was awake, an open bottle of whiskey in front of him and a bag of chips.
"Hey, sorry I already helped myself." He pointed to the bottle on the table.
I shrugged. "Not mine, so .." I grabbed a glass from the kitchen and filled it with cold water and brought it to the living room. Josh scooted over and I sat beside him. The TV was on and playing The Green Mile. Josh handed me a shot of whiskey which I drank and I washed it down with water.
"Day one and I'm already drinking." I murmured. "I'll be alcoholic after this quarantine."
Josh smiled at me and nodded. "Same here, man. Same."
We had a comfortable silence while downing the whiskey. My vision was starting to blur, Josh too as he keeps on spilling his drink..
"Anna, I really like her." He started to say. "But she's hard to read."
I nodded. "Yeah, she is."
He looked up at me and raised his brows. " Any tip, man? To make her fall for me?"
"I don't know Josh, I'm sorry. I dated her in highschool but I don't really know if she even liked me."
"Hmm..that difficult huh?"
"Maybe it's different for you, who knows."
"I don't know, man."he shrugged. "What about you and Alex?"
I lit a cigarette and had a long pull. "what do you mean?"
"Guess you don't know?"
I looked at him shaking my head.
"Well, I really don't know if it's right for me to say this…" he looked at me thoughtfully. He's.."
Alex suddenly came out of the bedroom and looked at Josh sharply. "It's 6am, curfew over. Get out."
Josh raised both his hands as if surrendering. "Sorry man."
"Out." Alex glared at him.
Josh stood up and looked at me, he looked like he was going to say something but decided otherwise.
"He deserves to know." He said, walking out the door.
"It's for me to decide." Alex responded as he closed the front door.
"Sorry." He murmured. "Sorry." And he went back to his bedroom.
I didn't see him the rest of the day.
I was bored for being quarantined and the TV only has news of the recent pandemic. The number of victims, the number of deaths..I finished the bottle of whiskey me and Josh were drinking but my body was craving for more. I stood up and went to the fridge and opened a can of beer. I also made spaghetti, because..well, I just feel like cooking.
I stood at Alex's door and knocked.
"Want some food? I made spaghetti." I said. I leaned my head on the door to keep my vision from swaying. I was so drunk I could sleep right here.
"Are you sleeping?" I called again. I might fall asleep by the door if he doesn't open up. I sat down on the floor, my back leaning by the door. I closed my eyes and listened.
"Are you upset about Josh?" I asked.
I heard movement inside, then footsteps.
"You don't have to tell me anything you know. I won't ask either." I continued. "He asked me about Anna, he said he really liked her. Guess I wasn't much of a help to him." I pulled my legs to my chest and buried my face in my knees.
I heard the door opened a few minutes later but I didn't move from where I was seated. I liked the cold floor and my head's spinning so much I might vomit if I move. Then I felt Alex's arms behind me, lifting me up to my feet.
"You're always drinking." He chuckled as he turned me to face him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he started rubbing my back. "But if it always turns out like this, I'll gladly make you alcoholic."
