Chapter 4 - Chapter 2 - The Silver Dragon’s Proposal

Pondering on the Dragons words, Li Fen couldn't help but ask, 'How would you even provide me with power? And how powerful are your enemies exactly, if they're so strong how am I even meant to get revenge for you if you couldn't do it yourself?'

The Silver Dragon listened to her questions before answering, 'The current strength of my enemies? I do not know, it has been four thousand years since then, they could have grown stronger, passed away or grew weaker through some means. And the current standing of the Kingdoms which belong to the races which betrayed me, I have no idea on that either. But, cultivation is one thing I do know, and that is how I will give you power!'

Hearing the words 'cultivation', piqued Li Fens' interest even further. She had attempted to cultivate in the past but it proved fruitless in the end, providing no benefits what so ever.

'Everywhere in this world, there is a mystical essence, which is refined within an organ inside the body to produce pure essence. There are two paths of cultivation depending on an individual's endowments, Mages and Warriors. Warriors are a very common path which everyone can cultivate in, and it is a form of body cultivation. Warriors use their cultivation to purely strengthen their body, and they use the essence from their cultivation to supplement their attacks physically. A Warriors means of combat is very similar to a Martial Artists found in your previous World, whereas a Mage is vastly different. Very few can become one, as only people who are talented in the Soul meets the requirements in becoming a Mage.'

Zhang paused a bit before continuing, 'A Mage uses the essence from their cultivation to nourish their souls and although their bodies are weaker than a Warriors, their bodies are not weak either. A Mage is more versatile than a Warrior in terms of their means of combat, and generally, they have stronger attacking power than a Warrior. A Mage channels their stored essence externally, to form spells that can be used for multiple purposes such as attacks, healing and so forth. Both forms of cultivation have fundamental differences, each having their strengths or weaknesses. Mages are considered rarer, and more important than Warriors but that doesn't mean they should be looked down on them as a top-level Warrior can prove to be even more dangerous than a Mage in certain situations. People in this world can improve their strength by following both cultivation paths I mentioned by absorbing the essence in the atmosphere to advance their cultivation. Even though having the talent in being able to become a Mage is much rarer, a highly talented Warrior is still valued highly in this World. To progress to the next rank depends on the purity of your essence, one who has typically lower talent will have a lower purity of essence meaning they have less of a chance in being able to progress to the next realm. The cultivation realms are Apprentice, Journeyman, Master, Grandmaster, Senior, Legend, and Saint. There are realms beyond that, but there is no point in telling you at the moment.'

'Very confusing' Li Fen thought as she tried to follow the Dragons explanation.

The Dragon within her has explained quite a bit of this World all in a very short time causing Li Fen to understand very little on the subject. Li Fen felt a slight headache coming on after trying to cram all this newfound information into her head.

'It's not my fault it is all confusing' worded the Dragon without the slightest hint of sympathy, as he continued giving Li Fen no time at all to digest the information.

'Okay listen closely, there are nine different ranks in each cultivation realm with the Mage or Warrior needed to be at the ninth and final rank to progress into the next realm. Within this world individuals, elemental affinity is also considered important, although this is more relevant to a higher level Mage or Warrior than a lower one, so I will describe this when the time comes.'

After this, the voice pauses for a moment causing a smile to emerge on Li Fens' infant face. Although the Dragon claimed to not care whether Li Fen understood the information, it still paused to give Li Fen a breather to quickly commit the information to memory.

'If a person has high talent, a strong altitude in at least one of their elemental affinities it is possible to progress in becoming a Master ranked Warrior or Mage.' The Dragon continued with an overbearing tone pretending that the previous pause never occurred. Li Fen felt quite amused by this but decided not to comment on it.

'After the Master Rank, follows the Grand Master Rank, Senior and so forth. When a Mage or Warrior reaches such a rank they would require to develop suitable understanding towards an element to progress, but as mentioned at the moment this information is not important at the moment as you are still a very long way off then!' Said the Dragon, as he paused before saying.

'As mentioned the next rank is Legend, followed by Saint, the one after is Divine, but we do not need to mention that as you are still not required to know about that yet at this moment in time.'

'So, that means there are eight ranks? And there are more you have yet to describe? Wait, which rank were you before you died?' Said Lin Feng.

'Hmm. I was at the Divine rank before I died. As far as I know, the only ones above that in all of history were the Gods and the Emperor of the Devils himself.'

'If you were at the Divine Rank, then weren't you really strong?' The hostility she felt towards the Dragon was dropping slightly, and Li Fen began to feel more and more curious about the Dragon, which was the only company she had.

The thought of leaving her life behind prematurely hurt quite bad, but if she focused all of her attention on cultivation there was still a chance she could get past her troubled feelings.

'I was indeed very strong before' said the Silver Dragon smugly, however, this smug feeling was quickly replaced by a sigh.

'At this moment in time, I cannot use my powers as I am trapped within this body alongside you. If I was foolish enough to use my strength right now, I can guarantee the body would explode and we would both die a gruesome death.'

'But, cannot you do just simply another instantaneous reincarnation then?' Li Fen asked, she knew it may seem unlikely but she wanted to get a definite answer from the only person able to provide it.

'Do you think I'm some almighty person? No, if you die again then we will both end up in the Netherworld and will wander around before we eventually will lose the memories of our previous lives and go through a cycle of rebirth. Even I wouldn't escape that fate, as I used the remaining vestiges of my power to do this, so don't expect me to do anything like that for a long time to come.'

With a humph his voice stilled, and Li Fen could detect she insulted him fairly. Realising something.

'What is your name?' She suddenly asked, feeling guilty she had not thought of that until now, as despite asking many questions this was the first one which was personal to the Dragon.

'Zhang Wei' replied the Dragon, which upon answering the pair went silent for a long period of time.

'So what should we do now?' Wondered Li Fen.

'I want revenge, so as soon as we killed the one responsible for the betrayal to the Silver Dragons and also target a few figures involved within the other races, then I will be able to return to my own body and regain my freedom. That is the goal.' Zhang Wei instantly answered with such anger that even Li Fen felt aggressive.

'What rank was the person?' Li Fen asked out of interest, after all, if she could help the guy she might as well try.

'He was the same rank as me, but his strength was above myself at the time.' Zhang Wei said.

'I see', but then she realised exactly what Zhang Wei had said. 'Wait, if you cannot return to your body, then you expect me to fight a guy ranked that highly?'

Li Fen said starting to panic slightly at the thought of going against someone that powerful, she was quite curious towards this so-called cultivation and all but that doesn't mean she was suicidal.

'Yes, I am. And I will help you cultivate' Zhang Wei assured her as if everything has already been decided and he didn't even need to get Li Fens opinion on the matter.

'Why should I even do something which is so dangerous? Come on, give me a reason.' Still partly blaming her death on Zhang Wei, she had no intention to die for this unknown person once again.

Zhang Wei might have said it was not his fault and he was blameless, Li Fen still felt he was her murderer, after all, could her luck be that bad? She still felt the whole ordeal of her death was too much of a coincidence to be true.

'When you reach a high enough rank in cultivation, you will be able to reunite with both your friends and family.' Zhang Wei said this as if it was a matter of fact, but this still caused her soul to stir.

'I can really return?' Li Fen asked sceptically. After she died, she thought that being able to reunite with both her family and friends was simply impossible.

And that she would leave her previous life full of regrets and a feeling of unfulfillment, but the words of Zhang Wei filled her a sudden feeling of hope and expectation.

Li Fen did not know if Zhang Wei was attempting to trick or something, but the chance to tie up the loose ends and regrets after death was something she would go to hell and back for.

'Well yes.' Zhang Wei said, but before he can continue Li Fen interrupted him.

'But, wouldn't by the time I reach that high level of cultivation, wouldn't they would be long dead?' Li Fen asked with a depressed tone as the cold hard reality suddenly hit her.

'Well, that is why when you reach such heights and become a high-level Magus you could go to the Netherworld yourself to communicate with their souls. And can even revive them and create new bodies for them if you desired to do so.' Zhang Wei said in an attempt to reel Li Fen in with his knowledge.

'So, I will help you cultivate to the utmost peak of cultivation, which allows you to reunite with your loved ones and in return, you help me with my revenge, then we go our separate ways? Do you agree to this soul contract?' Zhang Wei asked.

'Just tell me what to do' Li Fen replied firmly.
