Chapter 1 - I Don’t Want To Be A Starter Packer Anymore!

Lin Ke. Surname, Lin. Given name, Ke. 24 years old.

He promised that if he were to be given another chance, he would never be a Starter Packer or cheapskate in an online game ever again!

Instead, he would place all of his money into the game and become the richest VIP in it!

Soon after he returned home from work, he casually looked for a newly released browser game, Goddess Continent to relax and enjoy his time. He wanted to see if the game was good. Hence, Lin Ke spent one RMB as he prepared to try the new game.

As he topped up the money, he spent two minutes to quickly look through the beginner's guide. Lin Ke then prepared himself to enter the game and clean up the place.

In that instant, he arrived at a shady, humid forest.

As a city person, one could say that Lin Ke had no way to survive in the wilderness. He might just not be able to survive a night if he were really left inside a forest alone.

It was possible that he would be taken away by some wild beasts at any given moment.

Furthermore, the surrounding environment made Lin Ke's heart beat rapidly, as these were trees that he had never seen in his everyday life, not even those he had seen in videos. This meant that it was very likely that he was no longer on Earth and was in another world!

However, this made no difference to Lin Ke as it was as lethal to him regardless.

Fortunately, when there was a will, there was a way. After taking some time to panic, Lin Ke noticed that items from the game that he was playing had transmigrated along with him.

Lin Ke felt helpless as he looked at the measly 10 Diamonds in his possession.

"Seriously. If I were given another chance, I'm definitely not going to be a Starter Packer or a cheapskate anymore. I'll definitely put all of my salary into the game!"

Lin Ke was extremely remorseful, but he soon realized something more troubling.

"Where's the Main Quest? How am I supposed to level up without the Main Quest?"

Lin Ke started panicking. He had finally found a ray of hope to survive but troubles kept coming after him one after the other. Was God trying to kill him?

He shut his eyes tight as he tried to recall information related to this pay-to-win browser game, Goddess Continent. However, the more he tried to recall it, the more his mind went blank.

"F*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck!"

Lin Ke kept hitting his head. He felt as if a huge swarm of bees was buzzing beside his ears, which annoyed him so much that he started screaming loudly.

However, he was deep in the forest. Who knew what threat he would attract by screaming so loudly.

"I'm doomed." It was then that Lin Ke recalled the first sentence in the guide. 'Please follow the beginner's guide and reach Level 15.'

'Would I be in so much agony if I could reach Level 15?'

Lin Ke wanted to beat the person who wrote the guide to a pulp. How was he supposed to level up without the beginner's guide?

He cracked his head as he tried to recall everything that was related to Goddess Continent. This time, he was able to recall something amidst his anxiety.

First things first. This was a western and magical themed game. In other words, there would be magic and lords in the game.

Furthermore, this browser game was a mixture of everything, a game that required players to enhance their characters and territories simultaneously.

Lin Ke then realized something. Where was his Fortress?

He looked around but all he could see was a dark forest and a pile of stones and wood. Far away, there was a narrow river, but, in Lin Ke's opinion, nothing that could be deemed a Fortress.

"Am I the only one here?"

Lin Ke started feeling despair as his Fortress was not in sight.

From his limited knowledge, he would need the Fortress in order to level up his character and strengthen his territory. His character would be a goner if he did not even have a Fortress!

"This is so unfair!"

Lin Ke groaned as he continued looking around. However, he did not find anything.

He started becoming suspicious when his line of sight fell upon the pile of stones and wood.

"These things…" Lin Ke muttered. "Perhaps these are the materials to build it?!"

He calmed down as he recalled the moment he entered the game. There was a field filled with building materials and the System's arrow was pointing at them. It was as if it wanted the players to start building. He then changed tabs to spend money.

"That's right. These are the building materials to build my own Fortress." Lin Ke grew excited after realizing what they were.

He would be able to develop smoothly as long as he had his Fortress.

The moment Lin Ke felt happy, a rustle came from afar and soured his mood.

He was instantly filled with fear. Lin Ke immediately confirmed the source of the sound, ran to the pile of stones, and hid behind it, carefully observing the situation.

The rustling soon stopped as a gigantic upright creature came out from the trees.

It was truly a frightening being. This made him realize that he truly was no longer on Earth.

This being was almost 6.6 feet tall. Its lips were protruding and its teeth were incredibly sharp. No matter how he looked at it, this being was certainly not to be messed with.

His ridiculously well-built body was messily covered with dirty and tattered skin from other beasts. A notification appeared in Lin Ke's mind. This beast could be considered a civilized being.

At the very least, it knew of embarrassment and how to wear clothes.

Lin Ke did not wonder how it kept itself warm, although he only had thin clothing on him, he did not even feel slightly cold.

However, being civilized did not mean that it was harmless. Even humans had cannibal tribes.

The beast gradually came out of the shadows. Lin Ke kept looking at the beast and found it rather familiar.

"Is it a Werewolf or a Kobold?"

Its entire body was covered with gray fur and one would mistake it as a canine if it were to get down on all fours. It was slowly approaching him.

This beast seemed to be incredibly strong. Lin Ke watched it push a small tree blocking its path out of the way with just one hand.

Lin Ke immediately categorized it as a Werewolf when he realized just how strong it was.

It was a bloodthirsty Werewolf!

"D*mn it. It found me!"

While Lin Ke was observing it, he soon noticed the beast's nose twitching, as if it had smelled something.

It did not matter if it was a wolf or a dog. Their sense of smell was incredibly good.

It must have smelled him. What should he do now?

Lin Ke gave up on the thought of escaping. He knew that it would be impossible to outrun a beast that lived in this dense forest.

Hence, he had no other choice.

"That's right, I have my Starter Pack! I still have my Starter Pack!"

A Starter Pack was incredibly important in any browser game. The one RMB difference would often result in an incredibly huge advantage over those who did not pay a single cent at all.

Furthermore, those who purchased a Starter Pack would have even more advantages when it came to pay-to-win games.

The game, Goddess Continent, that Lin Ke was playing was a pay-to-win game.

In a nutshell, all of the beginner's guides that he found would require the player to purchase the Starter Pack. There was no point in continuing the game if one refused to buy it.

If that was true, then would the game's Starter Pack be good enough to bring him safety?

Lin Ke still had another question hidden within him that he did not even dare to allow it to surface to his thoughts.

The rewards from the Starter Pack, would he be able to get them?

  1. A Starter Packer is someone who only buys the game's Starter Pack and nothing else whereas a cheapskate only buys the cheapest bundle or one-dollar bundle.
