What Guding didn't know was that after the Military Department people withdrew from the desert, other forces also exited the desert where the super-weapon was buried.
Most forces headed straight for the port, wanting to leave the planet as soon as possible. They knew this mission of the Military Department was a disastrous failure. After the explosion, the Military Department would likely take action to clean up the remaining forces, to make their mission appear less of a failure and to account for it to the Federation Government Headquarters. They did not wish to become targets of the Military Department's cleanup, so escaping was the best option.
Guding's three escape pods were soon discovered by the Military Department at the desert's edge.
