Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Ugly and Ferocious

```
The Federation Government had various classifications for the star domains within its jurisdiction. For instance, the Red Star Domain indicated extremely dangerous areas, the Black Star Domain referred to areas controlled by interstellar pirates, the Golden Star Domain denoted highly developed star domains. As for the Gray Star Domain, it represented unmanaged abandoned star domains.
Generally speaking, the Gray Star Domain used to be an area where intelligent life once appeared, but for certain reasons, the population of intelligent life within the star domain sharply declined, making the presence of personnel from the Federation Government unnecessary.
With the network blocked, the Sea Emperor couldn't access specific information about this star domain and had to rely on the ship's radar system to detect the presence of life forms. Fortunately, the radar on the Eagle Chicks was a recent model that could locate the existence and specific location of life forms.
The radar results quickly came back, and the Sea Emperor was somewhat surprised at the findings. Within the detection range, there was a planet populated with a large number of people. Although the Sea Emperor was a bit surprised, there was no time for further investigation. The presence of inhabitants indicated that there was oxygen and suitable gravity. Having such a planet as a foothold was ideal since Guding only needed a temporary stop to evade this space storm and then set off again. Thus, the Sea Emperor quickly chose a landing point.
As the massive meteor narrowly missed the planet, the Sea Emperor maneuvered the Eagle Chicks away from the meteor, activating the Energy Shield to absorb several impacts, finally directing the ship toward the target planet.
Upon entering the atmosphere, the Sea Emperor tested the atmospheric composition of this planet. The result showed that the oxygen content was similar to that of Sea Blue Star, allowing Guding to breathe normally.
As for the gravitational strength, he calculated it based on the descent speed, finding it to be about 1.5 times that of Earth. To Guding, whose Cell Comprehensive Index was approaching twenty, the impact wouldn't be significant.
Under the Sea Emperor's control, the ship quickly crashed into the ocean. The Eagle Chicks was now completely scrapped, with most functions disabled except for the radar. As for food and water, Guding had long since moved them into the escape pod.
The sealed escape pod ejected from the ship, floating on the sea's surface. The Sea Emperor took this opportunity to wake Guding.
Rubbing his sleepy eyes, Guding stretched, "That was a good sleep. Is the space storm over?"
"Not yet, the Eagle Chicks is completely wrecked. We've been brought to the Gray Star Domain by the space storm," the Sea Emperor explained briefly. "I've initially checked out this planet's information; it's suitable for human habitation, and there is life present on this planet."
"You mean we've deviated from the new route?" Guding didn't probe into the whole process but cared more about whether he was still on the new route.
"Yes, this was the best choice. The first wave of the meteor shower consumed over sixty percent of the Eagle Chicks' energy. If we hadn't come here, the Eagle Chicks would have likely disintegrated, and you would have been torn to pieces."
"How long until we can return to the new route?" Guding most wanted to know the answer to this question.
"We can only signal for rescue after the space storm passes and the electromagnetic blackout dissipates. According to prior official statements, the space storm would last at least twenty days, and we've already endured three."
"So, seventeen days remaining..." Guding muttered softly when his stomach suddenly growled. Having been in the escape pod for three days and just waking up, he didn't initially feel hunger until that moment when he realized he needed to replenish food and water.
He squeezed some toothpaste-like compressed food into his mouth, taking a sip of water alongside.
In the early days of space travel, many foods were compressed into toothpaste form to prevent floating food particles from being inhaled into the lungs under zero gravity. Nowadays, many advanced ships come equipped with gravity sensors, eliminating such issues, allowing for the consumption of all sorts of foods. However, Guding couldn't afford a ship with a gravity sensing system.
While eating the compressed food, Guding suddenly noticed what appeared to be fish not far in the water, making the food in his mouth seem tasteless as he pondered catching a fish for a feast.
Just as he prepared to dive in after undressing, the Sea Emperor called out, "That fish looks peculiar. Don't go in yet, let me show you a recently recorded video."
The Sea Emperor projected an image of a fish, which he had detected within a hundred-meter radius around Guding, conducting a relevant examination.
"It seems this fish isn't edible..." Guding commented after watching the video.
The video depicted a fish about thirty centimeters long, sporting a mouth full of sharp teeth, seemingly engaged in a territorial skirmish with another of its kind.
Soon, victory was decided, with the slightly larger fish biting down on its opponent's head, tearing forcefully. In seconds, only half of the opponent's head remained, and within ten seconds, the fish of a similar size was completely devoured.
"Not only is this fish ugly, but it's also ferocious." Guding couldn't help but remark. "Can you find me any other edible fish?"
The Sea Emperor subsequently recorded several more videos of different types of sea fish, each more vicious than the last, sapping Guding's appetite entirely.
After watching, Guding noticed a commonality among them: all these fish bore mouths filled with sharp teeth and, during territorial fights, didn't consider whether or not they were the same species. They fought like mad, showing a relentless persistence.
"Are all of them like this? Are there no normal, edible fish?" Guding asked hopelessly.
"Do you think such fish could have existed in these waters?" the Sea Emperor retorted. "Even if they did, they were probably eaten ages ago."
"It seems I'll have to stick to this bland compressed food." Failing to enjoy a gourmet meal left Guding, a true foodie, a bit disheartened.
"This planet is peculiar. Earlier radar scans detected the presence of life forms numbering in the billions. This area was clearly a Gray Star Domain, supposedly bereft of life-supporting planets," the Sea Emperor confessed his puzzlement; however, given the emergency situation earlier, locating a life-sustaining planet was a stroke of luck, allowing for no complaints.
"Sea Emperor, didn't those fish seem like they might be infected by a virus?" Guding suddenly recalled a scenario from his virology elective at the military academy.
(A bit of Carvin, tomorrow's first chapter might be delayed as well.)
