Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Heading Towards the Spaceship Factory

Guding's virology course only lasted one semester because the virology professor suddenly resigned, and the military academy couldn't find a second virology teacher, so the course was left incomplete.

Later, Guding also heard some rumors about the teacher, who was said to have been quite renowned in the Cosmic Sea despite his unremarkable appearance. Guding always just listened to these rumors and never took them seriously.

For him, the old man's identity wasn't important. What mattered was that despite initially having no interest in virology, he developed a keen interest after attending the old man's lectures. So much so that after the academy suspended the course, Guding still occasionally went to the library to look up virology related materials.

Since virology is a branch of pharmacology, Guding wasn't opposed to becoming a pharmacist.

Upon hearing Guding's statement, Sea Emperor fell silent for a moment, "I also suspected, but in my database, there are no records of this type of virus. The closest virus, code-named X, was used as a biological weapon in an ancient biological civilization. It could greatly enhance the power of the infected and allowed for evolution by assimilating genetic fragments, encompassing all DNA and RNA viruses, but they didn't attack each other. However, looking at these fish, they seem to devour all life they see, even their own kind."

"Some scientists of ancient biological civilizations believed that viruses inherently possess the consciousness to survive and expand, so they generally do not invade the host of the same virus. But these fish in the sea devour each other like this, undoubtedly cutting off the possibility of the virus spreading significantly, even exterminating their own viability, so I didn't initially believe they were infected," Sea Emperor continued to explain, "But such mad behavior, other than being infected by a virus, leaves no other explanation. Anyway, this planet definitely won't be a safe landing spot. You should put on your armor; it will be safer."

Guding summoned his armor and wrapped himself tightly. In this unknown situation, even though he was usually a bit careless, he knew he had to be cautious.

A moment later, Sea Emperor's voice came again, this time with a hint of surprise, "I just received some good news."

"It couldn't be that the interstellar storm has already stopped, could it?" Guding guessed uncertainly.

"No, how could it stop so quickly? You're thinking too much," Sea Emperor laughed, "Although external communications from the planet are blocked, I just tried connecting to this planet's internal network, and it actually worked."

"Are you sure you're not mistaken? This part of the Grey Star Domain near the Tianhe Star Domain has been abandoned for over fifty years. That means there haven't been any humans on this planet for over fifty years. How could there still be a network?"

"If the technology of this planet was advanced enough and their use of light energy reached a sufficient level, not just fifty years, it could last five hundred years," Sea Emperor thought Guding was underestimating the power of technology, "And fortunately, among the still functioning machines, there is a mainframe from a scientific laboratory. It contains not only a lot of previous scientific data but also all the monitoring records of these virus-infected creatures on this planet over the years."

"What I really want to know is whether there are any intact spacecraft on this planet," Guding thought if there were intact spacecraft on this planet, he wouldn't have to wait for the Federation Government to send rescue. After all, his current identity was that of an interstellar pirate, even though he didn't even have half a Star Coin's bounty amount.

Thinking about the bounty, Guding felt somewhat depressed. Just a few days after leaving Sea Blue Star, he had fallen into such a desolate place; let alone doing something spectacular that would shock the Federation Government, he didn't even know when he would be able to leave.

"At the port, there is a spaceship factory. However, the most urgent matter is you must board land as soon as possible," the Sea Emperor said, seemingly not too anxious, "According to the surveillance records, there is something incredibly terrifying in the sea, with combat power at least comparable to a Fifth-Order Genetic Body, and it might even approach that of a Martial Artist with a Sixth Rank Genetic Body. That creature is afraid of light and usually won't come out during the day, but at night, your situation will become very dangerous."

"How long until nightfall?" Guding was aware of his own circumstances, even with the enhancement of his combat power by Extreme Body Technique and Armed, he was only comparable to a Martial Artist with a Second Rank Genetic Body and stood almost no chance against a Third Rank Genetic Body. As for those Fourth Rank and above, the probability of being instantly killed was very high. No matter what kind of monster was in the sea, as long as it had the combat power comparable to a Fifth-Order Genetic Body, his survival rate was nearly zero.

"This planet completes a rotation every 70 hours, with daylight lasting forty hours. There are about thirty-five hours left until it begins to get dark," the Sea Emperor had already mastered some information about this planet. "The closest coast to you is to the southeast, about two thousand kilometers away. You're in luck, the energy in the escape pod is just enough to get you to the sea surface. Traveling on the water, it will take about ten hours to reach the shore."

Guding looked around and realized that on this planet, he couldn't even distinguish between north, south, east, and west, scratching his head, "Then I'll have to rely on you. By the way, does this planet also rotate from west to east?"

"That's correct, so the constant star appears in the east each morning," the Sea Emperor knew Guding asked this because he was completely unable to discern directions. He controlled the escape pod, speeding towards the southeast, slicing a long white line across the sea.

Those ten hours felt incredibly long to Guding. The escape pod's interior was cramped, limiting him to lying motionless inside. In the high-speed journey, if his body was not secured, it was very likely he would be thrown out.

Besides the bottom, all other sides of the escape pod were transparent. During the journey, Guding saw various types of fish, all in a frantic and fierce state. Some were even larger than the escape pod and crazily chased after it until they were far behind and finally gave up.

Barely enduring through the ten hours, Guding finally heard the Sea Emperor's voice again, "We've reached the shore."

Guding opened the pod door and sat up, exhaling a long breath, "We've finally arrived."

"All the energy in the escape pod has been consumed, you'll have to rely on your feet for the remaining journey," the Sea Emperor brought another piece of not-so-good news.

"How far is the ship factory from here?" Guding knew it was time to train his physical endurance.

"About six hundred kilometers," the Sea Emperor gave an estimate, "I've seen your physical test scores, one hundred kilometers in five hours, after which you need at least a half-hour rest to recover your energy. Considering various situations you may encounter on the road, you will need at least two days to arrive."

Guding packed food and water sources into his storage space and started sprinting in the direction instructed by the Sea Emperor.

(Although mentioned, the virus will not turn this into a post-apocalyptic story, so everyone can be at ease.)
