Chereads / Eldritch Scion / Chapter 10 - Migraines

Chapter 10 - Migraines

A hero...?

I gaped at Eris as she skipped over to Anna and Serra to grab a hand of each before she and Anna turned back to throw me a synchronized wink... what the actual fuck. They are sisters? I guess they look alike now that I compare the two.... THATS BESIDES THE POINT!?!?!? How does she know what I am? Also what the heck was with the 'M'kay' and the peace sign? She's reincarnated? Has to be, those actions are definitely not something from this planet.... or are they? It just seems so out of place and jarring, and the look she had! She's definitely reincarnated or transmigrated or whatever. I shake my head, I can sort that out later. More pressing concerns.

"Father!" I called out with my soul and almost immediately felt things become sluggish as the massive presence of Cthulhu touched my soul.

"Yes my boy? I must admit this is far sooner than I thought you'd contact me. You should still be a child at the moment. What need do you have of me?" Fathers voice gentle echoed through the halls of my mind and soul, helping to bring order to the confusion and chaos within.

"I met a girl today, slightly younger than me and seemingly normal. Until she tackled me to the ground, acted very out of place for what I understand of this world and finally asked me what an Eldritch Scion is." My words rang out with a slight tinge of frustration. Father told me I'd be safe from discovery until I was grown.... did he mean four is grown? What the heck! I'm still level one and my body get tired very easily. This is absurd!!! There was a brief moment of silence as Father took in the boil up of emotions and browsed my recent memories before a reverberating chuckle rang out.

"Calm yourself my child. First I said you would be safe from godly intervention for your young years, not from everything in the world. Second you don't have anything to worry about yet, the girl in question is not hostile, she is merely curious." I felt my mind twist and found myself in comfy green armchair and my Father sitting at an angle to me in his own chair, dressed this time in a pearlescent violet suit with his too large smile fixed on his face. He waved a hand and a 3D image of Eris appeared before us before he started to speak again.

"It seems that your life is destined to be packed with interesting things right from the start my child. Eris has a very intriguing history, I won't spoil the fun of you learning it for yourself, but you need not worry about the involvement of any deities presently. While she is a Gods Chosen, most commonly known as a Hero, she and her goddess have mutually severed their connection in a way that has left her with all the perks of a Hero yet none of the pesky oversight of said goddess..... such an interesting existence. I wish you good luck in dealing with this one my child, she should bring you much excitement in life I'm sure." Father's rumbling chuckle rang out as he turned to look at me and watch me stew in my thoughts.

So Eris was a Hero... an unshackled Hero. That explains why she could appraise me properly, basic Hero gear being Appraisal at a near god tier. An interesting history... for a four year old? That must mean she has memories of at least one previous life, maybe more if she had a mutual agreement with her goddess. Something big had to have happened in her last life of a god was willing to give up oversight of their chosen which means she has far more life experience than me. So caution when dealing with her should be consta—

My thought spiral is broken by a poke to my forehead and I look up to a sight that would give even gods nightmares but brings me comfort. Father crouched I front of me, his smile splitting his face from ear to ear and long tongue hanging out the side, the gleam of countless madnesses in his eyes, his shadow fraying and lifting into corporeal tendrils before slipping back.

"Worry less child, focus instead on living your life and how much excitement she represents! Never a dull moment with Heroes!" He clapped his hands on my shoulders before I felt my mind twist back into my body and time started to move properly again. Father's last words echoing in my mind as I walked up the hill to my mother.

As I made my way up the hill while keeping an eye on the sisters, twins now that I think about it, I decide to use my own form of appraisal on Eris. I've never used it on anyone but myself as I never felt the need before but it just felt justified now. As her status appeared before me she turned to look at me in the eye, a huge grin on her face.... she knew she was being appraised.... I focused back on her status and WTF!? My mouth dropped and I heard a peal of the most delightful laughter ring out from Eris as she watched my reactions. Everyone looked at her when she suddenly laughed which spared me the embarrassment of having them all see my stunned and gaping face.... except for my mother and Anna who both turned to look at me instead of Eris and shared an eerily similar smirk.

I refocused onto the status window and started to read through this hot nonsense of a status page while trying to tune out the laughter and grins of these evil women.

I feel cheated.

What kind of bullshit inflated stats are these?!

Not a single stat is at ten, the standard for human adults, and what is that bullshit thirty!?!?!?!? ABSURD! My highest stat right now is a twelve!! Screw Hero's, that's some hacker shit. I want to speak to the game designer! A balance patch is needed ASAP!!

..... But more importantly. Why is there an empty skill? And has Seer as a profession.... I don't want none of this bitch. Top to bottom just nothing but trouble.

I turned and appraised Anna, going straight to her stats... Fuck these monsters and fuck today! I'm done, I'll look through it another day but if I take any more hits today I'm going to rip my hair out.

I look to my mom and think about appraising her but I catch the grin on her face... on second thought I don't wanna, I mean she survived a run in with a divine weapon so her stats are probably insane. Why are these women all monsters!?!?

My head hurts and I'm mentally exhausted trying to parse all this so I go to the best spot for mental relaxation and ignore everything else.... I slammer over to mom and hold my arms up for her to pick me up and firmly avoid the gazes of the twins. They don't exist, you can't feel their gazes. They don't exist, you can't feel their gazes! THEY DONT EXIST, YOU CANT FEEL THEIR GAZES!!!!!

I think I'm gonna cry.....
