As some of you might already know, each author writes about the Omegaverse with different rules. This brief chapter will fill you in on how this one works....
In this world there are two genders, male and female; however there are three secondary genders: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. All genders can get pregnant and impregnate.
How pregnancy works:
Males have a uterus and develop a-cup sized breasts once impregnated. When a female is aroused her clitoris can turn into a retractable penis.
ALPHA:
—Occupy 20% of the population.
—Have a high sperm count and can knot.
—Have little to no chance of getting pregnant, some don't even have uteruses.
—They are considered the elites of society. Most are presidents or CEOs of major companies.
—Tend to be intelligent, protective and on the aggressive side.
—Pretty, tall and have a muscular build.
—Produce Alpha pheromones that attract Omegas.
—Can control their pheromones (to a certain extent).
BETA:
—Occupy 70% of the population.
—They are considered average to society. With average jobs and intelligence.
—Considered the mediators.
—Tend to be calm, cool, and collected.
—Again, average bodies. Lanky/gangly.
—Produce Beta pheromones, can detect other pheromones, but it does not effect them as much as Alphas.
OMEGA:
—Occupy 10% of the population.
—Have a high fertility rate.
—Have monthly heats that last approximately a week, this is when they are most fertile.
—They are looked down upon and have poor, if any, jobs. They struggle to maintain work due to their heats.
—Tend to be docile, quite, timid and dense (according to society)
—Cute, short and have a feminine build.
—Produce Omega pheromones that attract Alphas
What is a heat?
Only Omegas have monthly heats that last approximately a week. Smelling a particular Alpha's pheromones can trigger their first heat. Their first heat can occur anytime between the ages of 11 to 19. With one case where an Omega didn't get his heat until the age of 23. But Alphas can have ruts (the alpha version of heat) every few months. In both cases their heart rate increases, they develop a fever, loose control and go into a sexual frenzy where all they can think about is reproducing, incapable of doing anything else. Omegas struggle to get and maintain a job because if they go into heat while at work the situation can turn dangerous fast and can cause a great commotion. Most employers deny their applications after viewing their secondary gender to prevent these situations.
Most Omegas stay at home when in heat to prevent rape, since the pheromones they release during this time make it close to impossible for an Alpha to control themself (a reason why they start taking birth control once they get their first heat). Rape is legal for this reason, but is greatly frowned upon and can get one fired from his or her job in some places. Betas can control themselves around an Omega's pheromones, so some Alphas and Omegas hire them to prevent any accidents (most Betas are too weak to stop an Alpha who has lost control).
A popular method to help control an Omega's heat is to use Suppressants. As their name suggests, it helps to suppress their heat and the release of pheromones. Each Omega responds to Suppressants differently, it can take a while until they find the right dose and brand for them.
The Bite Mark:
An Omega is marked when an Alpha bites the nape of their neck during their heat. Many Omegas want this because once they are bitten their pheromones will only affect their mate, making for an easier life. However, once marked Omegas are unable to have sexual relations with anyone else without getting extremely sick. Alphas remain unaffected, but usually develop a strong sense of protection for their mate. It is rumored that some pairs can become bonded—meaning they can sense how the other is feeling or if they are hurt.
