Chapter 10 - Putting Things in Motion

At the doctor's office, Luke came across the old woman in the green robes and pointed hat again. When she Luke's pathetic look, she immediately turned serious.

After shooing away Alex, she began trying to heal Luke's damaged psyche, which she immediately noticed.

"Child, I can sense that you feel immense burden and trauma... is that why you worked so hard to the point of damaging your mind?" The lady doctor asked.

Luke immediately became somewhat alert. "You can sense my emotions?" He asked with surprise.

The doctor smiled and nodded. She took out a collection of powders from her cabinet and mixed them together to form a potion. "Take this now, at night and tomorrow morning. You should gradually feel better and your mind will heal. As for your mental traumas... I can only tell you to find an anchor to hold on to."

Luke took in the potion and looked at the doctor. "Ma'am, you are very mysterious. Are you a secretly powerful mage in disguise?" He asked as a joke.

The lady laughed. "I'm not powerful, I'm just knowledgeable about the human health as a doctor should be."

Luke nodded. "Thank you for your help doctor, I will be heading to the Confederate Academy tomorrow, I hope your medicine can heal me before the selection of guides."

The old woman suddenly turned serious when she heard about the academy. "Tomorrow huh... Child, there are too many shadows at that place. Be careful and keep your head low." She said in a quieter voice.

Luke put on a confused expression. "I... don't understand what you mean? Is it dangerous?"

The doctor didn't say any further. "You should be fine. Just head home and rest. I too will close my work down for today."

As Luke left the doctor's office, he was beginning to wonder. "Is this going to cascade into Norman's disappearance? Is the doctor interested in the Evil Sect as well? This doctor is not as simple as she seems. I was considering following her, but I am too powerless. It can be considered an assignment for future loops."

Instead, Luke was considering other machinations instead. "Javier Bardoom... truly a sneaky bastard." He thought.

The next day, in the train to the academy, Luke was talking to Melinda on the train about Control Exercises.

"You've managed to reach average proficiency, not bad." Melinda said. "You've worked very hard."

Luke sneered, because as he expected, Melinda blew off his interest in becoming her apprentice by setting another unreasonable target.

"She is clearly obsessed with the evil sect and doesn't want to waste time teaching, it seems. I need to investigate her background for this reason and find out why she is so devoted to this cause." Luke thought and he clearly had some ideas now on how to go about this.

At the academy, on the day of initiation, Luke went looking at the various community stalls. He walked to the Challenge Group stall to see the green haired woman.

"Hello, I'm Luke Vinson." He introduced himself directly.

The green haired girl looked at him curiously but didn't say anything.

"May I know the beauty's name?" He asked.

The girl shifted her glasses. "Did you come here just to ask this? My name is Narin." She said with a smile.

Luke grinned. "When I entered the grand hall, my eyes caught sight of your lonely beauty and I couldn't bear not asking your name, miss Narin."

Narin looked at Luke as if seeing an interesting specimen. "Men are rarely as bold as you are in front of me. Usually this kind of bombast is reserved for the heavenly beauties."

Luke laughed. "To me, you are a heavenly beauty."

"You've got a weird taste." Narin smiled. "Unfortunately, we only accept members on invite, so you can't join us."

Luke looked sad, however his eyes soon glinted like gems. "In that case, how about we exchange our contact details?"

Narin was a somewhat serious and introverted girl and having such a blatant interest towards herself made her slightly blushed. After some thought she nodded.

Luke grinned and then moved around checking other stalls. This time he didn't join the Control Practice community, but found a different one.

"Can I join the Doom Society?" Luke asked the two gloomy individuals who were sitting on chairs. Their situation didn't seem much different from the Challenge Group.

"Invite only." One of the guys grunted.

"I have the special invite." Luke smiled, as he said.

The two looked at each other with a surprised face as their straightened their posture. "Where is it?"

Luke took out a paper which had two words written on it. One of the gloomy individuals read the words and immediately turned serious, burning the paper into crisp ash.

"You may join us!" The gloomy individual suddenly turned excited.

Luke smiled and nodded. The other person looked at Luke. "How did you find out about us?"

"From an ancestor's diary." Luke replied.

Hearing this the person was satisfied. "You have made the right decision."

Returning to his room, Luke began his regular routine of practicing control exercises. A couple of days later, he ended up being assigned Professor Alok as a guide once again, and as usual, the professor was missing from.his station.

A few days later, in class, Luke, who looked disheveled and pale was lying down on his desk while others were gossiping.

He couldn't help but notice that quite a few students were riled up.

"Did you hear? Kyle has already become a rank 1 mage!"

"So fast? He is from a Noble family, but the term has just begun amd we already have someone who became a mage among us. The pressure is on!"

"I wonder what Magick sequence he chose?"

"Didn't you hear him tell it yesterday? His Magick sequence is of the fire element, but ofcourse the actual sequence is a secret."

"I wonder what it is?"

"Never ask a Mage what their Magick sequence is. It is a taboo."
