Every morning at Maddie's house is a new adventure. Whether it's chasing her brothers with frying pans, Or throwing rocks at old people, Maddie's house is never boring. Last night, I spent the night at her house hanging out with her older brother, Nick. The entire time Maddie seemed extremely irritated, Probably because we were using her flat iron to make popcorn. She sat on the couch with her arms crossed the entire time, Shaking her head in disappointment.
"Lighten up Madeline! I saw this challenge on the Internet it's pretty cool." Nick said, as he placed a kernel on her iron. Maddie rolled her eyes and continued to look away.
I've known Maddie's family for 11 years now. I remember meeting Nick and Maddie at the daycare when I was four. Maddie had this unforgettable smile, And these bright blonde curls in her hair. I Remember in first grade, she used to like this kid, Jeremy Ross. When she looked at him she would twirl her curls in her hand and never break eye contact. To this day, we still all make fun of her for it. Nick, Maddie, and I are almost inseparable. Maddie has two other brothers though, Kevin and Richard. They're pretty cool but they're not as cool as Maddie and Nick.
"If I decide to flat iron my hair and it smells like popcorn, I'm going to strangle both of you." Maddie snaps at Nick. Nick ignores Maddie and continues to wait for the kernel to pop. As much as I hang out with Maddie and Nick, I never really spoke to Maddie. Me and her were just inseparable from the beginning and no words could describe that. Sometimes I could just look at her and believe I knew what she was thinking, And from the looks of her facial expression, She really wants us to stop using her flat iron.
The kernel pops and Maddie is startled by the sound. "Oh you're such a scaredy-cat!" Nick teases. Maddie glares at Nick and it intimidates me. Maddie then looks at me without breaking eye contact and my hands start to shake. I am really scared of Maddie. Maybe I'm scared of her because I saw what she did to Jane Austen in fifth grade, Maybe I'm scared of her because I see what she does to her brother Richard every morning. Either way Maddie has a thing about her that makes her extremely terrifying.
"Maddie! Nick! Shane! Get ready for bed!" Mrs. Dawson shouts. When, Maddie looks away I let out a big sigh of relief. Nick hands Maddie the flat iron in which she snatches it out of his hands. She glances at me in anger and then looks at her brother and storms off. "Man. She really has a temper." Nick complains, "She's always in a bad mood." I try not to say anything because if Maddie heard me she might just kill me. I stand up and I brush off my pants, which had popcorn pieces all over them. "Maybe we should leave her alone." I say, "She seems more angry than usual today." Nick shrugs his shoulders and cleans up the rest of the popcorn.
Mrs. Dawson walks down the stairs in her bright blue nightgown with her chestnut brown hair reaching her shoulders. She smiles and waves at me and then goes to the kitchen. I rub my eyes and glance up at the top of the stairs. Surprisingly, Maddie is looking down with her arms crossed tapping her foot. "When are you Idiots coming upstairs?" She snarls. Looking up at Maddie is nothing new for me, But the fact that she's at the top of the stairs is a little frightening. "Calm down Blondie we'll be right there." I say, smiling at her. She doesn't seem too happy with the fact that I called her Blondie and storms off and slams her door. "How come someone can get so irritated over a nickname?" I say to Nick who is barely paying attention. He shrugs,"This is my sister we are talking about. I don't even understand her half of the time." I shrug as well and make my way upstairs. To my surprise, Maddie's door is open. I look in to attempt to apologize. She's got her headphones in, probably blasting music in her ears. I glanced at her and smile. When she notices she yells, "Get out of my room, you freak!", Even though we both know I wasn't in her room. I open up Nick's room to find a complete disaster, as usual. I grab the sleeping bag from under the bed and lay my head down on the floor. My eyes flutter shut as dreams Enter my mind and I slowly drift away into sleep.
