The two of us walked inside my house. My parents weren't at home. They worked almost all day throughout the week. They had half a workday on Saturdays and Sundays completely off.
My brother and I never really complained or asked for much. We knew our parents worked really hard to make it so the two of us can live comfortably. Even though they worked for a bunch they still didn't make it so my brother and I felt neglected. Every Sunday we always spent the day doing a family activity and spend time together.
As of lately they had just gotten home and were getting tired. They were getting older. They have wasted their lives away working. When they come home we end up doing everything they ask of us and more. You can see the life of being business owners even if it's a small one takes a huge toll on someone.
My brother and I split our ways, and we headed to our individual rooms. I walked inside my room and everything in my room made my mood drop. It was sad.
My room had nothing that made it seem like my room. The walls were a plain dark gray, all the items on my bed were white, my desk was organized and clean. Everything was clean to an obsessional level. It said I was a spotless person or no one lived in the room.
The thing is I just have way too much time, so I end up cleaning. I read the other times when I was bored. I never really leave the house or have a reason to, so those were the two things I did often.
I love photography too, but I never can take photos. I do it's in the same place. My windows and of the sky, that's not that interesting. I want to take cool photos, but I never leave the house.
I looked at my bed and I sighed and jumped onto it. I ignored the loud noise it made, then crawled to my Pillows. I fell asleep waiting for something to take me away from this sad room.
I woke up from a black abyss. No dream that I can remember. I looked around the room. There was a small glow in the dark dots all over my walls and ceiling. How have I not ever noticed these?
My brother jumped into the room and said, "ha I ruined your white walls!"
I looked at him and said as I was holding in my laughter, "are you trying to start a prank war?"
Skylar smiled at me and started to ramble, "No I came in your room while you were gone. And for goodness' sake. Your room is sad, so while you were gone I gave it some personality. Well only when it's nighttime, but that's your favorite time anyway."
"Thank you," I said walking over to him and giving him a huge hug.
He took a step aside and I grabbed a coat. He knew that it was the time of night where I couldn't go back to sleep. I get nightmares almost every night that wake me up at 2:37 am always, so I go for walks to calm my self down. I normally make it back close to three am. my family hated it, but it works.
I grabbed my phone that was sitting on the stairs (I guess I dropped it.) I had a few notifications. Nothing stood too much out. I started to head out of my house, then my phone buzzed.
I guessed it was a notification, but I still checked it, and I was wrong. It was Aragon. Of course, he would still be awake.
He wrote, "hey cutie. Are you still awake?"
I walked out of the front door and replied, "yes, I just woke up."
"I'm sorry if I woke you up," he replied within seconds with a crying face.
"No, I woke up for other reasons. I'm going for a walk now, so it's okay."
"Oh. Okay."
"What are you doing up so late," I asked as I looked up from my phone.
"I got distracted from reading again, but now I'm laying in my bed I'm not tired."
"Oh fun," I replied as I looked around me calmly as I walked.
"Definitely," he said in a monotone voice.
I heard yelling from an ally, but I ignored it. that was something that often happens, but I normally don't get noticed by the people yelling. The than that a bunch of people out here knows me. it's just a really run-down part of town. It's said to be the bad part of town, but there is only a small part of them. The bad parts are druggies and drug dealers other than that it's normal people who like where they live because of the people, live there temporarily and are homeless.
They have few prostitutes here and there, but they are nice. Since I'm a girl they don't try to ask me for anything., but they often tell me not to start what they are doing. There isn't really much going on around here. Every one sticks out for everyone, and they don't bother you unless you talk to them o bother them.
Aragon after a moment of silence said, "are you okay Avery?"
"Yup," I said as I started to walk past the ally of yelling people.
Out of the blue, I heard someone from the alleyway yell, "hey Avery come here."
I walked back and I looked into the ally. My phone was pressed against my ear, but Aragon was silent listing to what was about to go on. I saw a nice older lady who lived there with her two grand kids getting yelled at by a guy in a suit. The guy ignores me and continued to yell at her.
I put my phone in my pocket (still not hanging up) and I said, "lilac ma'am do you need some help?"
Mrs. Lilac looked at me with a small smile and said, "oh Avery-"
"Go away little girl," the man said glaring at me as he cut off Mrs. lilac.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and I said to Aragon, "sorry Ari I'll call you back later I have to do something really quick."
I heard Aragon's voice said calmly, "Avery who is that?"
I sighed and said in a monotone voice back, "no need to worry bud. I'm just going to help out an old friend of mine and head home."
"Fine," he said and he hung up.
I put my phone in my pocket and Mrs. lilac smiled a scared smile at me. the man was looking at me curiously. I just walked up to Mrs. lilac and I quickly glanced at her to make sure she wasn't hurt. I stood between the man and Mrs. lilac.
I looked at her worried and I asked, "Mrs. lilac what are you doing out here so late at night?"
She looked at me worried and said, "Henry was out and I can't find him. And I walked onto this guy's territory as he called it and him won't let me look for him."
I looked at the man and I stood up tall. No, I don't get in fights often here and I have the confidence of a chicken nugget, but when it comes to friends and family I don't mind yelling. I can't actually fight, but I try.
"I can let you or the old lady go," he said as he smiled at me.
"Let her go," I said confidently.
"Grandma," I heard Henry call out.
I looked towards where it came from and another man had the small boy. Well, he was only in the 8th grade, but he was still tiny compared to the man holding him. The man holding Henry was buff and was strong enough to hold him back.
"Okay so give me $1,000 and I let the kid and the grandma go," the guy said smiling mischievously at me.
"Nope you let us go," I said as I looked him in the eyes.
"Why do you have bandages on your neck," he said randomly.
Clearly, he said it to make my confidence drop, but I just pulled up my sleeves. He looked at me confused, but I took that chance to grab Mrs. lilac. I pulled her to where I came from.
"Run ill get Henry," I said as I ran back in towards Henry.
She didn't take a moment to hesitate. The man tried to go after her, but I kicked him in the leg, and he fell down. It was actually a bit of a shame. Someone so big got taken down by a small person like me hitting him in the knee.
I ran to where Henry was, and he said, "a very you don't need to help me I can help my self out."
The man tried to grab me too, but I just grabbed his arm and said to Henry, "what are you doing out here at two AM?"
"I met up with these guys some guys at the high school are in their gang and I thought I could do some errands and help grams out a bit," he said as he looked at me disappointed in himself.
I smiled at him and punched the man who was struggling to hold him and me, "kid you're fine, your grandma is happy having you guys. You don't need to help out until you can get a proper job, not working with these idiots."
