Chapter 19 - Chapter 18

Gliding in, Klaus' owl landed on its perch. Giving a hoot to get my attention I took the bag off. "Good job." Ruffaling it's feathers the owl returned to its nest. Klaus faught me in going to bed, claiming he had work to do. Finally gave in when his nose started to bleed. His paperwork is on his desk arranged in piles and stacks, all needing a prefects' approval.

Rain splattering on the window falling down to the sill, dropping to the ground when going over edge. "There was another attack." Echo said. "Few villages over. A blacksmith, no id on them yet. The towns people are getting scared." Sitting on our beds she is laying on her body pillow half asleep. I'm filling a vial ready for a protective spell. "The villagers will. They can't do anything to protect themselves from it." Dropping salt into the vial adding another layer to it. "Cant they just put a big shield over the town, like your doing for your.... thing?" She flapped her hand in my direction, stretching out more on her bed. "That isn't possible. That don't have the type of patience for anything." Salenne said. "Besides why do you care about it?"

"Because they don't stand a chance. Because they will likely blame magic and the school."

"And that is their choice. The Headmaster will handle the back lash." As I tied string on the vial, tossing it to Echo. "The creature is more likely looking for something that got stolen from it. The people it's been killing are probably the ones that had something to do with it."

"Whats this?" Holding it up she stared at the vial dangling it from her finger. "It's a protective charm. It will work so long as you wear it." Tucking it under her pillow in her hand she snuggled back up. "How bout knights in shining armor, to protect the village." Turning off my table light I got under the covers. "Yea because metallic objects roaming around like puppets with no one seen controlling them with pointy objects wouldn't be a bad idea."

"No need for sarcasm."

"I wasn't sarcastic."

"Aqua ortum." Concentrating on the spell, Salenne had it make a fountain in the lake. "Alrighty then. Next one." Turning back my lovely assistant who is supposed to be reading the spells is.... sleeping. She is sleeping. Rolling my eyes and laughing at myself I shooted. "PB! Read the spell." Puffing up feathers on end she looked me in the eye. "Please." Turning her head to one side she hopped to the opposite end of the book. "Chorus aqua. You basically have water go through hoops, or something."

"Really." Shifting my weight I leaned my head back with a tried breath. "Hey don't look at me I can't read this blighted language."

"I didn't bring any hoops." Sneaking a glance, "Wanna get a bath?"

"No thanks, I'm going back to sleep."

"Really."

"Yes." Settling into her spot she covers her head with her wing.

Stepping up to the shoreline I took a steading breath. "CHORUS AQUA!" Shouting it, feeling my magic flow down my arm to my wand it made the water rise. Moving my arm up the water.... splashed back down. Saying it again, I practiced till I my magic ran out. Falling to the ground in outer exhaustion, I laid back on the grass feeling it's prickly blades trying to cut through my clothes. Staring at the sky I moved an arm to block out the sun, once upon a time I thought I never see it again. Moving my hand to make the rays dance between, them I was reminded of my birth place. Recalling my past I remembered. The villagers slapping a slave collar on my neck, yanking me between them forcing it to dig in my neck. "Your ancestors did this to us. Made into their toys." Shoving me in a gibbet cage hanging it in the old mines. "At least I had my magic to keep me company." Swallowing the lump in my throat I stood up, "CHORUS AQUA!!" Forcing my magic to flow I shouted the incantation until my throat is sore.

"Your standing wrong. Your magic isn't flowing correctly making the spell go out of control or too weak." Unfamiliar with the voice behind me I couldn't hold back my words. "So my stance is the main issue?"

"That and your not supposed yell the spell." Light blue hair and kind eyes moved to my side, offering their hand. Seeing my rejected offer they turned it into a bow. "Hello, we haven't meet before. My name is Cerim and I'm a third year at this school." Bowing respectably he put one hand behind his back and kept the other at his waist. "Nice to meet you, Cerim. I'm Salenne. Currently on provisional leave." I nodded my head in acknowledgment. "Yes, I heard of you, You're Klaus' buddy. You've only been here a few weeks." Taking out his wand it resembles that of a sword replicating its hilt for a handle, it's color matching his hair. "Stand more like this instead, it should feel natural." Moving to mimic him I copied his stance. "There. feel the difference in your magic flow now. "Yea. Thank you, Cerim for you assistance."

"Anytime, if you want I can come by and help you with your studies."

"Oh...ahh no thank you I prefer to study on my own."

"As you wish. If you change your mind send a magic note." Bowing in farewell Cerim left me on the lake shore, feeling more lighter then I have in awhile.
