Chapter 2 - Chapter One

Whatever happened in the past affects the present and even your future. So looking back would make you realize your mistakes in order to understand whatever happens now or tomorrow. Looking back may bring so many memories, even the painful ones, but without it, you won't be able to understand what happens now. But there are people who prefer not to look back and rather let fate and destiny do their job because for them, looking back is useless, as useless as a pen without ink. For them, looking back is only a waste of time. And just like what people say: "Past is past." If it already happened, don't think about it tomorrow or on any other day. But not for Dimetreia. After what happened that night, her memories of her past keep coming back in the form of a dream. And whatever she saw last night was something that shook her hard. So hard that she can't even believe that she was shaken by that dream. It's like all her foundation, that she thought was strong enough, crumbled down.

Dimetreia stood in front of the broken mirror while staring blankly at it. "It's not possible, right? Tell me it's not possible." She thought. "Right. I broke the only way to answer my questions." She continued while picking up the candleholder she used to break the mirror. All the things that remind her of who she really is are already broken and she has to be glad about it. But no. What she felt after that dream is regret rather than satisfaction. "I should be satisfied now that everything that reminds me of my past is gone. But Why do I feel like this?" She asked herself while putting the candleholder to its rightful place.

She was about to leave the spot when something hit her eyes. Something that she didn't expect to see after all those years.

She picked the frame up and memories started rushing in her mind. "I promise I will take care of you from now on." A little man's voice said. "Abraham I'm scared. There's someone underneath my bed." The little girl said "Don't worry Dimetreia, I'm here. I will protect you from whoever gets near you." The little boy replied. The sweet memories of her childhood with her brother remained in her heart and mind. However, along with those sweet memories, are the memories that she tries to suppress for years. "Abraham don't!" She screamed, but it was too late. Her brother already cast the spell. A blinding light covered the whole room as Dimetreia closed her eyes. All her sufferings and sacrifices for him turned into ashes; burnt by her anger towards her brother. Since then, everything about their relationship changed. And the last thing she remembers is walking out her brother's door and driving the car out towards the outskirts of the city.

And then there's her dream. The screams reverberate in her ear and the stench of both blood and smoke stayed in her nose. The eyes of humans filled with pain flashed across her mind. Everything that she saw in her dream suddenly flashes. It continues to flow until a breaking glass removed her from her trance.

As she opened her eyes, she looked around to check if someone was there. But saw no one. The door's still locked and the mirror's still shattered. But the moment her eyes landed on the picture frame she's holding, she accidentally dropped it on the floor, shattering it to pieces. The once glass and stainless steel picture frame, turned into ice. But only the picture survived. The picture still remained intact while the other pieces of the frame broke. However, there's a slight mishap in the picture: a black line separates her from her brother, although the picture itself isn't cut into half. And the more she stares at the picture, the more the questions in her head start to form until it starts to hurt once more. But unlike last night, this was still bearable, and the first thing that popped in her head is a long walk from her home to the park.

As she walks down every street, she kept thinking about her dream that she didn't even notice the car speeding up to her until she was already hit.

"Ouch..." she whined in pain as she supported herself to stand up, then someone helped her while saying "I'm so sorry miss I wasn't able to see you. Let me bring you to the hospital." Then suddenly she froze. Somehow she knew that only one creature in the whole world owns that voice. And as she turned her head towards the owner of the voice, all the shield she built up for the past five years shattered to the ground just like the mirror. "Dimetreia?" The woman asked and a name she didn't expect to say once more escaped from her lips as a sigh "Ysobel."

"Ysobel what's taking you so long?" Another voice asked as the doors of the car opened and closed. "What happened?" The person asked, and Dimetreia started to tear as Ysobel looked at the person. Who would have thought that they'd meet again, though in an awkward situation? "I-I'm f-fine." Dimetreia said without looking at the person "No you're not. You can barely walk, you need to go to the hospital. And why aren't you looking at me? Don't you know it's rude not to look at a person while the person is talking to you?" He asked. Dimetreia tried to look at him and found out that nothing about him changed. Everything still remained the same ever since the last time she saw him, except for the scar on his upper left forehead.

The moment Dominic saw her face, he suddenly saw a flash of light and remembered a bit from his memory. Then a feeling like he knew her for a long time bloomed in his heart. And the more he stares into her eyes, the more the feelings grow. "Dominic, assist her. We need to take her into the hospital." Ysobel interrupted him. But Dominic cannot take his eyes off of her. It's seems that some kind of magic is drawing his eyes towards her.

"Dominic Hale! Assist her inside the car, we're bringing her to the hospital!" Ysobel shouted, taking him out of his trance. "Y-yes. Of course." He said then assisted Dimetreia inside the car. "Careful." He said "Don't worry. I'm fine." She said while laughing, but her voice is not as convincing as she expected it to be. And she knows why.

The awkward silence reigned in the hospital's emergency room as Dominic kept staring at Dimetreia, Ysobel on both of them, and Dimetreia on the floor while waiting for the doctor for Dimetreia's x-ray results."Why do I feel like I've known her for years?" asked Dominic to himself because the more he stares at her, the more the urge to hug her grows like he just met his long lost friend. "I hope it still works. I hope the spell is still strong enough." Ysobel nervously told herself. She knows the spell's conditions before Abraham casts it to him. Abraham told it to her personally.

"After I cast the spell, promise me you'll take Dominic far away from Dimetreia. Promise me they'll never see each other again."

"I promise."

'I promise', 'I promise', 'I promise'. Her words kept repeating itself in her mind, and so is the memory of the time she promised Dimetreia's brother to keep them away from each other. For five long years, she kept her promise, but not until today. It was an accident, she knows, but it doesn't mean it's an exemption. She just broke her promise.

Just moments later, the doctor came in together with the results telling them that Dimetreia is completely fine, but she has a minor injury on the right side of her body and that she just needed a rest. "Thank you, Doctor," Ysobel said before the doctor left. "So, I guess I'll be going. I still have something important to do." Dimetreia said while getting off the hospital bed to stand up. "Wait!" Dominic shouted before she was about to walk away. She turned her head in his direction and said "Yes?" Dominic froze for a while when he saw her smile, then another flash of light appeared in his head. "T-take care," he said nervously while looking into her emerald green eyes. Dimetreia smiled and said "Of course. You too." Then she left, leaving them staring at her retreating back. "Let's go," Ysobel said then they left too.

Ysobel tried her best to forget about what happened earlier. Trying to forget that they ever saw Dimetreia Pierce again. Dominic, however, cannot seem to forget it. Ever since they helped her to the hospital the questions in his mind starts to grow in numbers. 'Who is she?' 'Why do I feel like I know her?' 'Why do I want to hug her?' Questions that he's very well aware that only Ysobel can answer. "Who is she?" he asked, but Ysobel kept quiet, trying her best to ignore the question. "You seem to know her very well. I saw the look in your eyes when you saw her. Who is she?" he asked again, but still, no answer came out of Ysobel's mouth except for a deep sigh. "A-A friend. An old friend." She said when she felt Dominic eyeing her. She was expecting him to ask more questions and her answers to those questions are already prepared. "What's her name?" he asked again "Jazzmhine. Her name's Jazzmhine." she lied "Jazzmhine huh?" he said with a sigh then looked outside the window. He was supposed to believe her statement, but somewhere deep in his heart, he knew otherwise. Ysobel, on the other hand, hopes that he won't ask her more questions because she does not know if she could still lie to him.

Dimetreia continued to walk at the park thinking about getting rid of the awful feeling she feels in her chest; a mixture of fondness to be with him and the urge to forget him. Sitting on one of the benches, she tried reminiscing her memories with him. But the more she tries to remember, the more her headache hurts. For some reason, she cannot understand why she can't remember some happenings in her past. With a deep sigh, she stood up and started to walk away, but her eyes caught someone; a woman in a black dress with a red necklace. She doesn't know who the girl personally, but she felt like she's seen that woman before. She's just not sure who it is.

The woman walked, following another woman when Dimetreia suddenly felt the urge to follow her. Like danger is coming her way. Fear should reign in her heart, but no. Instead, she felt the urge to follow her.

She continued following the woman in the streets of the city but lost track of her when the crowd started to grow. Exhausted from the long walk, she bowed her head in defeat and was about to walk away when an irritating sound reverberated in her ears. It was a voice. A voice of a woman pleading to spare her life. Dimetreia ran after hearing the voice; searching for its source. The voice gets louder and louder, but she still hasn't found the owner of the voice. She turned her head around searching for anyone screaming, but there's no one around screaming. The voice shouted once more, but this time it was very loud. So loud that any moment her ears would bleed. But then, it stopped. Everything suddenly started to get mute. Her ears had their rest, but something sparked in her heart that made her run. Somehow after hearing the voice, she knew where to go. And her feet led her to an abandoned alleyway, where she saw the most horrific scene she had ever seen in her entire life. A scene in which she only heard from her brother's stories. A scene she never thought would frighten her. She opened her eyes wide in horror as she continued to watch the scene.

Flashes of her dream appeared before her. The fire. The blood. The smoke. The dead bodies. Monsters killing all mankind. And the worst of it all: Seeing herself kill a mortal man.

She panted as she took a step backward and held her mouth. The woman in a black dress looked her way and smiled mockingly. "Well, well, well, another victim for me." the woman said with a smirk as she starts to walk towards Dimetreia. The closer the woman gets to her the farther her step gets, until...

"Not her you monster!"

Someone spoke. For some reason, Dimetreia recognized the authoritative tone in the voice. They both looked around and saw a hooded figure five meters away from them. "Who are you?" The woman asked. Silence reigned for a long time before the hooded figure once again spoke "The prosecutor." Then in just a snap of the hooded figure, the woman in the black dress burned in flames. The woman tried to fight the fire, but she had no power over it. And as the woman kept burning, the hooded figure suddenly disappeared into nowhere; leaving Dimetreia astounded.
