[A while ago at the water distribution company]
"Oh my god, I feel like I have just been to the gym!" Jiajin was complaining while she was stretching her arm at the back of the van.
"Haha, you know that we will need to bring everything on the boat later!" Georgie teased her a bit.
They were both with Sunny, Josh, Lexie and Ramesh, while the car and the pickup van were following behind.
"Josh, I see something weird ahead of us." Ramesh who was driving asked his co-pilot to confirm.
It was indeed hard to see clearly in the dark of the night, as the streets in this suburb were dimly lit.
"You're right I see a few movements up ahead, slow down and use the high beam.
A few seconds later, they could see half a dozen people rushing to them. Those people did not seem to care about running in the middle of the street, and their movements were erratic.
"This looks bad, they should be people that have turned!" Josh started to get anxious.
"What should we do?" Ramesh almost halted the car.
Josh armed his automatic rifle and gun, and said hesitating, "let's force our way, I can't believe if we go full speed they can block the car."
The girls at the back of the car were listening attentively to the two at the front. Upon hearing that they were zombies ahead their bodies became very stiff. When josh said to go full speed, even if it sounded reckless, nobody opposed the idea as they wanted to flee as fast as possible!
"Just saying, why don't we go by another road?" for Ramesh running into people was not something he had already experienced, and he did not feel like trying it today.
"Your idea makes sense, but think about it, at least this road is large and lit, but if we go through the side road, it may become even more troublesome!" Josh did not like his suggestion of forcing their way very much either, but what he dislikes more, was choosing a solution with even more hidden variables.
"Just GOOO!" Lexie lost her patience. She was seeing the clumsy group approaching menacingly, and she did not want to wait until he was too late.
Startle by his friend, Ramesh pressed the pedal of the car fervently.
The car started to pick up speed. One hundred metres, fifty metres, ten metres, "Hold on!!!!!"
BAM! The car directly hit 3 zombies! The shock made two of them fly far while the last one seamed glued to the bumper and the hood of the car.
Most of the girls were screaming with a high-pitched voice! If the situation was not so dramatic, anybody could think they were having fun in an amusement park.
"Shoot him!!!!"
Even if the zombie could not do much from where he was, it was still very scary to see a creature gesticulating and roaring on the hood of your car! In addition, it was dangerous as it hindered the vision of the driver.
Josh was frozen as he was trying to understand how in the world this zombie could still stick to the car.
"Josh!!!"
"AH?... Yes, yes, I will shoot him!"
He opened the window and used a handgun to shoot at the zombie, after a couple of shots, the zombie fell and the car ran over it.
BUMP BUMP
"Oh my god! I am going to die from fear!" Georgie could not help but exclaimed at loud to release her adrenaline. She was greening brightly and making a fan movement with her hand.
Lexie who looked at her was thinking, 'are you seriously having fun now?!?', she felt speechless.
Now that the group of zombies was far behind, Georgie was still frightened but at the same time, she felt great. This time you could really mistake her as she looked like she had just finished the scariest rollercoaster of an amusement park!
"Ha-ha-ha!" Sunny was following her in her enjoyment, as she added, "well done!"
Josh could not believe it, "Hey! Honey, this is not a game you know!"
"Of course I know!" Sunny felt aggrieved, but at the same time, she could not hide her radiant smile.
While in the van people were releasing the tension, the sedan behind was not having a good time! They could not see in front since the van was too big, and when to van suddenly slowed down and then accelerated they did not react right away!
Upon seeing the zombie ahead, Fred who was driving push the accelerator to the max. The car suddenly accelerated. Thankfully, the car had a better engine than the van, and they could increase the speed enough to bump two of the last zombies while the arm of the last one fled in the sky as he tried to grab the car from the side.
The small truck behind had a better time, with the opening of the two cars in the front they could go through the zombies without a problem.
"Do we really need to wait for Baptiste and the other?" Delphine who was tightly holding the small truck door asked Geoffrey.
They were supposed to find a quiet place not far from the coast guard base to wait for the other. At first, it seemed like a good idea, but now that she saw roaming zombies, the idea sounded terribly wrong!
"If we don't wait for them, how are they supposed to go to the harbour?" Geoffrey did not want to drop his friends.
"They can ride their bikes, no?" retort Delphine.
"Indeed, but if they find some firearms and other supplies they might not be able to ride the bikes anymore, and wasting all those would be a loss for us, don't you think?"
"Yes, but…"
"Come on, it will be fine, we will find some nice quiet place to wait for them, if we don't make any noise, there are no reasons for zombies to look for us, right?"
Delphine looked at Geoffrey with a disapproving look. Seeing her boyfriend not taking her point of view into account at all, she started to sulk, becoming a mute.
Geoffrey knew she would not make his life easy, but at the same time, he was resolute in doing his part of the job, not failing his friends.
The cars went thru another few hundred metres when they reach the highway again. There they split. While the two front cars went on the high way to reach the harbour, the truck started to go around the neighbourhood to find a place to park that would keep them safe.
After going around the block and making sure no zombies were roaming around, they parked on the side of the road, facing the road that was going to the marina.
Geoffrey cut the engine and took his gun, he opened the door of the small truck, climbed the back of it, and waited for a couple of minutes while surveilling the area.
Besides the strong smell of fire and a few gunshots in the distance, it was extremely quiet.
He went back to his driver sit and said to Delphine, "everything seems safe, we just need to stay quiet and we should have no problems."
Barely giving him attention she answered "mhm" and turned her head toward the window ignoring him.
