Chapter 4 - Bewitched

While returning the books scattered in the tables, Sherrie piled them and return them to each section to which it belongs. Left alone in the library and heard as the sounds of the book placed in the shelves enveloped the silence from the room. She looked at the shelves which are near the glass window, a generous amount of orange sunlight lit the piled book and fascinate her. Drawing nearer, she opened her hand and tried to have the sunlight to herself.

Sherrie was enchanted to the light and drew neared to the glass window. She could look the see through from the window glass the scenery outside the library the open soccer field. No trees even walled to the sun hung in the sky as it was trying to rest to the unknown place. It was so beautiful that she kept staring at it that she failed to notice someone entered the door. It was Robert who will return the drafting book he loaned. Looking the library emptied; he walked silently, almost tiptoed and try to find another good book to loan that day.

Carefully planted his steps, he look at the science section shelf; adjacent to the shelf which Sherrie stand while looking at the sunset outside the windows. Looking through at the spaces of the shelves with missing references, it caught Robert's eyes the Physics book on the top shelf he was looking for and carefully grabbed it and held it in his arms. His wandering eyes suddenly glance at the scenery in the spaces of the shelves he looked and see through Sherrie leaning near the window and smiling as she was trying to prison the sun light refracted through the glass.

He himself smiled looking at her; her hair turned to copper as the orange rays struck it and her face radiant as she closed her eyes to savor the last sunlight from the departing sunset; a lover's goodbye to his cherished sky and it slowly sank to the depths of unknowns, together with its light. Still looking appalled through the windows, her heart sank looking at the departing sunset before her.

Robert motioned closer towards her but he forget the book in his grasp that it fell off and created a loud thud in the silent room that Sherrie turned to his direction and her eyes widen discovering he was there.

He quickly picked up the book and looking at her with surprise as if he was not staring earlier at her. Sherrie walked to him and nervously smiled at him.

"What are you doing back there?" Sherrie asked as she find Robert's borrowers' card in the organizer.

"I was just randomly scanned the books I'm going to read. I was waiting to the library staff anyway to return this one." raising the drafting course book.

"Oh that one," she scanned its due date and after confirming she returned it to the reserved section shelf. It was placed topmost that she struggled to returned it.

"Let me help you."

He get the book and returned it to its original space effortlessly.

"Are you there earlier? I mean have you been in the library the whole time?" Sherrie asked as if she was confirming if he somehow witnessed her daydreaming.

"Me?" Robert pointed to himself and chuckled. " Oh no! I just came actually. I was just discreetly walking not to get reprimanded for being loud."

"I'm sorry, I thought you were there earlier."

"What are you doing back there?" he sounded as if he didn't know a thing.

"I'm…..I'm…. looking at…. at … the missing book in that shelves."

"Okay. I thought you were gazing the windows and fell in love with it." Robert said mischievously.

Her eyes widened as if she was busted from her little fascination.

"What? Aie, I knew it! You really seen something!" to her irritation she grabbed his shirt.

"Oh no! I'm not saying anything trivial!" he laughed as he tried to withdraw away from her harsh grasp.

She pulled him closer to her; face to face that he stopped laughing replaced with nervous look knowing they were an inch apart. Still irritated and embarrassed, she warned him in his naughty face.

"If you tell anyone,"

"If I tell anyone about what?"

"That I…."

"That you?"

"That…I…" tightly grabbed his the collar of his shirt.

"Ah, I swear I won't tell anyone that you played and looked like a child trying to capture the rays of the sun in her hands? Is that it?"

"Swear that you never tell anyone!" blushed in front of Robert.

"Okay, I will tell no one." He raised his two hands as a sign of defeat and she convinced to let go his shirt. She escaped a deep sigh as if it was very important secret in her life.

Robert laughed heavily and messed her hair gently. He clucked him tongue 3 times and then face at her evilly. "Why didn't you tell me you fell in love with the sun?"

"I'm what?" she hissed in defense.

"Chill, I won't tell anyone or surely you wring my neck."

Doubting him, she just let it slide and keep her things when the librarian arrived in the library.

They both walked out of the library while still cautious at each other. Sherrie held Robert's sleeve in case he will flee and spew nonsense.

"Aw it hurts my feelings Sherrie, don't you trust me?"

"I trust that you keep your word and I trust the premise that somehow you might used what you've seen earlier against me, so I am confused to which fact I will believed."

"Fine," he removed her hand from his sleeve and held it in his warm hands instead. "I see nothing earlier. Agree?"

Sherrie just stared at him blankly as she glanced at his hands hold hers. They were both interrupted and withdraw from each other when it was Cecile who cleared her throat before them.

"Sherrie, let's go together."

Both of them became silent and quickly put distance between them. As if they were both trying to converse more, it was Robert who excuse himself to go ahead of them- Sherrie and Cecile.

They bade goodbye at each other while Sherrie was dragged by Cecile on their way.

"Sherrie, what did I saw earlier? Care to explain?" when they arrived in the dorm they were staying.

"It was my classmate Robert who was goofing around Ate Cecile."

"Let's be clear, Sherrie if it was friends and nothing more than that it is fine, but remember tatay's rules. You better not disappoint me and our parents."

Sherrie nodded in agreement while she recall how strict their tatay could be.
