Chapter 5 - Contact

Within the Amazon a platoon of soldiers marched through the forest, making quick work of anything that crossed their paths as well as targeting a few creatures that were of a higher level. They all wore a uniform that was dark green in color and had a backwards flag of a muted red, white, and blue flag. They were from the United States.

At the back of this platoon were an additional 4 soldiers, three of them were wearing a strange suit that covered their bodies form the neck down while the last one wasn't wearing anything at all. The one that wasn't wearing anything wasn't doing so because he didn't want to but because he couldn't, when observed closely one could see a bright blue flame covering his entire body that warped the air around him.

The other three that worse the suits were a large man that stood around seven to eight feet tall with bulging muscles covering his entire body making him appear to be the size of a truck, next to him was an extremely skinny man that wore a scowl on his face; he also wore two sheathes on his back with two daggers laying them. The last character of four was rather short in comparison to the others only standing at around 4'10 making him seem like a dwarf, on his hands were two very large metallic gloves that kept his hands at his sides.

As they were observing the unit that slowly mowed through the forest a soldier ran up to them with a frantic look on his face. He stopped before them before saluting and putting the clipboard he held before his face. He then read aloud the report that was on it.

"Reporting to Lieutenants! A strange occurrence has happened within the forest. A large group of beasts could be seen following a straight line into the forest, our scouts had attempted to get closer to observe what they were doing but was quickly killed by the group."

The lieutenants that were staring at the soldier wore sour expression as they stared at the soldier in front of them. They knew they had heard rumblings happening within the forest but who would've thought that it was a group of beasts.

The lieutenant that was surrounded by flames thought for a a moment with a strange look on his face before asking. "Do we know their levels?"

" The beasts' group comprise of two level 5's, five level 4's, and ten level 3's."

The soldier stated matter of factly. As he finished the report the faces of the lieutenants soured even more. A group that big and highly leveled could easily wipe out a major city, just the fact they have a single level 5 beasts means they are the current apex predators of the forest. After realizing the sour mood of the room the soldier read out another report.

"There was also a strange finding in the spot we were going to set up camp. A large area of scorched earth and a mile wide radius of trees are gone, with a single carcass in the middle of the circle. We believe a fight between monsters above level five had fought there."

The lieutenants that originally had sour faces had now all raised there eyebrows as shock grew in their eyes while listening to the report. A mile wide area of forest for a battle was a little excessive even for something higher than level 5.

The burning lieutenant once again spoke. "We'll check it out, tell the soldiers to rest for now while we investigate."

He looked towards the other three and they nodded towards him as well before they all left the area for the clearing. It took them ten minutes to reach the edge of the battle area, but what welcomed them was a shocking sight.

The area of the forest that was burnt to the ground had a horrible stench of burning flesh, the ground was scorched black and a few embers remained burning. There were a few trees that were still standing but they slowly fell to the ground as they couldn't bear their own weight. The area that was scorched made up a half circle as the back of it touched a large cliff face.

The cliff face that touched the scorched earth seemed to be shattered with large chunks falling every minute causing loud thuds. The four wondered what kind of creature could cause this amount of destruction. They then studied the corpse.

It was a single 50 meter long carcass and it was still leaking blood out of it's injuries that comprised of large and small gashes along its scales. Multiple burn wounds could also be found around its massive body, creating a horrific scene.

"Jesus, what could've killed this thing."

The giant spoke this time with a deep voice. He circled it a few times before realizing that he couldn't even move the beast if he wanted to. He could push and pull around 5 tons with his current strength but he couldn't even nudge the beast.

The flaming also walked around the beast before closing his eyes and taking in the information presented before him. "It's a wyvern."

It had a scaled body with two massive bat like wings that were almost as large as its own body, it also only had two legs on its body which ruled out the fact it couldn't be a dragon. As he spoke this the other three stared at him and then carcass.

A real Wyvern was in front of them however it was already dead. They were in awe of this creature that hailed from the myths of Europe but that begged the question. Did this happen before? they creature seen before them was exactly like what european literature described. If that was true then did that mean there are other mythological beings?

After they recovered from the awe of the Wyvern in front of them the skinny man walked up to it and produced a dagger from his sheathe. He tried to slide it under one of the scales of the Wyvern but quickly realised he couldn't even get the dagger to budge under the scale.

"Tch, can't even collect a sample."

A thud was heard before the snapping sound of mandibles was also heard. He hurriedly looked around and saw nothing so he continued to try and collect a scale. He then heard the clicking of mandibles again as well as a few tearing sounds. He looked towards the group and realised they were walking to the to the other side of the beast.

"Hey! What's going On? You guys hear that to-"

"Shhhh."

He was cut off by the short man who shushed him but then followed their gazes before his eyes widened in shock. In front of them was a very large centipede that nearly reached 4 meters in length, it had a purple carapace that shined under the sunlight. Its deep brown segmented limbs heavily resembled that of a birds while the ends of the limbs ended in a dark talon like tip, and its body continuously turned as it tried to bite in to the flesh of the Wyvern in front of it.

"What the Fuck is that?"

The big man whispered under his breath as he stared at the Centipede in front of them with shock. The rest of them shared the same thought and they looked towards the burning man.

In a hushed voice he spoke. "Don't provoke it. Just observe for now, we don't know the strength of it yet."

------------------------------------

Once again the blue circle dropped a black shadow out of itself before closing. Revealing the centipedes form that underwent many changes, the main one being the purple carapace that was one his back that had speckles of white in it making it seem like a stained canvas. He didn't know how it had occurred but it may have something to do with the Frog bloodline.

The next major changes were his legs, the original yellow brown color had now transitioned to a near black brown and the once smooth limbs transitioned to look more like a birds that ended with sharp black talons.

'I don't think I will ever get used to that.'

He checked his status while clicking his mandibles in order to loosen them from their stiff state.

[Name: N/A]

[Race: Scolopendra Gigantea (Giant Amazonian Centipede.)]

[Level: 2]

[Stats]

Strength: 3

Vigor: 6

Agility: 13

Intelligence: 10

Constitution: 8

'A large improvement on my stats. I need to improve my strength though.'

After looking through his stats he looked around him and noticed that he wasn't in his cave. Looking around he saw destruction in the area around him. Cinders within the ground, rocks falling from the cliff face he was in and a giant corpse in front of him.

'What happened while I was gone?'

He then looked at the beast curiously and asked Thought.

'Can i gain bloodlines by eating creatures I haven't killed?'

[Host can absorb bloodlines from beasts that have died but instead of the one hundred percent chance that happens when host kills something it will be a 5 percent chance.]

'Better than nothing I guess.'

He then tried to bit into the cuts that were already made in its long body but there was something wrong, he couldn't even bite into it's burn or cut flesh, not even a cut was made on its body. Noticing this he started to bite harder to try and rip at least a tiny amount off of its body but to his dismay he couldn't. He then tried to find out it's level.

'That means it was above level five right?'

He realised that no matter what he couldn't even breach this things defenses currently so he turned his attention to the group that was observing him. As he turned there was a visible pause in all behavior within the group, they even seemed to be holding their breath.

As he looked at the he saw their levels, all of them were level 4 with the burning man being level 5. He then looked at the burning man with caution before he brung up his foremost limb and made a symbol on the ground. It was a peace symbol.

'Now then, they shouldn't be afraid right? I have told them I come in peace.'

The group looked at him and then the symbol on the ground before looking at him again. The burly man started laughing heartily but then his glare sharpened as he stared at the centipede. The rest also glared at him with the only exception being the burning man that looked at him with a gaze of curiosity.

The burly man's gaze softened and he started to speak. "Well I'll be damned. It knows what peace means!"

"Look at it! It's a mere bug with a few fancy things on it and it even knows what peace means! You guys know what we need to do here right?"

His gaze sharpened as an invisible pressure floated off of him and floated towards the centipede. His next words were spoken solemnly.

"Eliminate the Threat."

'Wait wait wait wait wait, he said what now? Eliminate me? Wait they seem to be charging me now?'

He hurriedly scuttled his way on top of the giant creature as the four of them charged at him and stopped as they reached the wall sized side of the creature, unsure of how to scale it. They observed him for a while before the burly man roared and jumped upwards leaving a giant crater where he once stood.

He landed on top of the beast and looked around before he realised something. The centipede was gone. He looked around while he was still on top of the beast and couldn't find a single trace of it.

He jumped off the top of the beast while speaking to those below him. "It got away, though I'm not sure how."

After he returned to his comrades sides he then looked at the giant beast once more. Before shaking his head and making his way back to the platoon of soldiers in the forest. He then looked at the soldier that was walking beside them.

"Everything here needs to be reported to HQ, especially that bug."
