It set a new cinematic record, surpassing the $28.71 million by 'Titanic' in 1997 and overshadowed 'War of the Worlds' ($30.46 million, -53%, an average of $7,792 across 3,910 theaters) and 'Fantastic Four' which scrounged up only $33.6 million, to firmly hold onto its number one spot.
