Chapter 11 - Ch. 11: Confrontation

Sam

I slip in and out of consciousness for I don't know how long. Finally, I manage to get awake and figure out what happened. That's right, my nimble self hit a tree branch, how ridiculous. With my eyes closed, I don't know what time it is, all I know is that it's dark. I barely open my eyes to look at my surroundings, I remember being picked up, Chris?

I don't see anyone around me. Just a gigantic cave, the walls look like obsidian from Minecraft, (my favorite video game, along with Skyrim, World of Warcraft, Army of Two and Ark: Survival Evolved, and Red Dead Redemption 2) and the ground is… grass? Brown and yellow grass that's matted down from what looks like something huge. I sit up slowly, my head throbs and see if I'm alone, it looks like it was here recently but it's gone now. I manage to get to my feet and sudden lightheadedness overcomes me, I grasp the slick wall to balance me.

The dizziness fades away, and I cautiously walk around the warm cave, the roof is so high a giraffe could come in here without bending its neck. Why was I brought here, or better yet, who brought me here? Something blue and shiny catches in my peripheral vision. I jerk my head in that direction, and do you know what I see? What a coincidence, it's the eyes from my dream. I panic, falling on my butt and crawling away from the rock the eyes are floating behind. I start gasping hysterically, courageous me… My back hits the cave wall and the eyes stare straight at me, this is the reason why I'm so scared, the pupils are slits similar to a cat.

The eyes come out of the darkness, and a pale white, snake-like creature comes to the bedding in the center of the cave. Its angular head is covered in two dark grey horns going backward. It's taller than me, probably around eight to ten feet, I could be wrong. I can't judge height well. It's covered in white, shiny scales and has claws that can cut an apple with ease. It had an eighteen to twenty feet wingspan, I'm guessing because they're closed they are tipped with a pale blue and purple scales. It cautiously lays down on the grass, seeming to be noticing my obvious discomfort.

"Female… what are you called?" A light, hesitant, female voice says in my head. I freeze, my head going a thousand miles an hour, Holy Macaroni and Chicken Nuggets! I stare at the creature and it's staring at me intently. I must be going crazy, I shake my head and the creature squints its eyes, slightly.

"You heard me?"

The same voice says in my head. Without thinking, I nod in response. The thing releases a face of surprise, it's eyes widening, its muscles relaxing a teeny bit. I keep my eyes taped on it, or I'm guessing her. I'm so surprised that I can't speak, so… I try to speak in my mind back, "Umm… Hello? Yeah, I can hear you? whatever you are… No offense."

I really don't want to get this thing mad. It looks even more bewildered when I'm guessing it hears me.

"Hello, as I was asking, what is it the humans call you?" I hesitate when she asks this, I just met this creature, closely reminding me of a dragon. Like, two minutes ago, should I trust her? Then I realize, I thought that out loud.

"You can trust me, no one knows about me. By the way, yes  I'm a dragon. The answer to your last question."

I think of what Chris said earlier, "… or a dragon perhaps…" No, Chris has a funny imagination, maybe it's just a coincidence. Yeah he really doesn't believe in dragons…. does he?

"I'm Samantha, my friends call me Sam. What's your name?"

The dragon's eyes smile slightly, glad that I chose to trust her.

"My name…" she says in my head, hesitant, "is Emberlynn."
