Chapter 13 - Chapter 1: A Mentor's Gift

In a large cave in the side of a mountain stood a girl with long blonde hair and wearing chain mail armour, with a sword around her waist with a golden handle. She also had white cloth over her armour with a red logo bearing a dragon breathing fire. All along the wall it was covered in carvings and writing. Behind the girl stood one man with short brown hair and a girl with long brown hair. Both of them wore similar armour that each bore the same logo. Their swords had a silver handle with razor sharp blades.

As the blond girl that was standing at the wall pulled out a book and a pencil. She began to write the carving she saw into the book. The man behind her moved closer to her and said "Princess we need to hurry. With the dragon being around and all these strange things going on being out of the capitals limits is very dangerous."

The girl looked at him and began to show him the book "I understand but look here. These relics may be our only way to find out why these strange things are happening." As she looked from the book back to the wall her smile began to fade and her purple eyes began to widen.

"Is something wrong?" The male guard said as he put his hand on the handle of his sword.

The female guard grabbed the handle of her sword and began her way to them. "No, you two everything is okay but not for much longer." The girl said closing her book and slowly walking to a big carving of with giant eyes looking over a bunch of trees. "This isn't good, not one bit."

The female guard walked up to the girl and asked "What is it?"

The princess turned around and with a worried face said "We need to go see my father now."

Meanwhile Kia and the group went to Helsing to retrieve something that Kia had left behind. As their wagon neared Helsing all they could see was burnt down buildings and small fires that were still going. They slowly approached Kia's old barn that use to stand tall and firm but was now burnt down and completely black. "Look at this place. The dragon must have really wanted to leave its mark." Maria said looking all around at the burnt down buildings and trees.

"What do you mean by leaving its mark?" Lea said looking to Maria from the front of the wagon.

"A dragon will set fires all around where it sets a nest to warn people and other dragons that they are nearing its territory." Maria responded.

"It definitely left its mark." Dante said raising his finger and pointing off to the town square where there was a giant pile of dragon faeces. "I mean just look at that shit. Literally its so massive." Dante was captivated by the pile of faeces.

Kia stopped at his old barn and jumped off the wagon and began his way inside. "Tatsuta while I grab what I need can you fly around and see if there is anyone who needs help?"

Tatsuta a raven demi human with massive blue wings on her back and blue hair stood up and spread her wing in the air "Will do master. Then in one quick movement she took up into the air.

"I think someone may want to go check if someone got crushed by that dragon shit." Dante said, still looking at the dragon's droppings.

Kia walked into the burned down barn and began moving some burnt wood from the ceiling after it collapsed. He then began to reveal a hidden hatch that was covered in dirt and hay that he had locked up. He then pulled out his old dagger and dug it into the hole. Once he pushed it in as far as it would go, he closed his eyes and began to pour some of his magic energy into his dagger which channelled it into the hatch. After a few moments there was a click and the hatched popped up just enough for Kia to grab the side and lift it up. When the hatched open he began to walk down the staircase. As he continued downward, he came up to a door which was unlocked. As Kia opened it torches on the wall lit and revealed a small room with a small pedestal with a long wooden box on top of it. When Kia brushed all the dust off, he heard someone behind him.

"Who in the world thought about using proximity magic on torches?"

Kia turned to see a tall slender woman with white hair and red eyes standing in the doorway. "Oh, Valerie its you well my mentor did he liked using magic in ways most people wouldn't think of using it." Kia said looking back to the box. "Even though proximity magic is mainly used for setting traps. My mentor saw more potential in the magic and found things like this to do with it where it lights up the room when someone walks in."

Valerie with more interest asked "Who was your mentor."

"He was a blacksmith who found me after the hero pushed the demon lord back. He took me in and cared for me teaching me some basic magic and survival tips. That is till he grew ill and died." Kia then grabbed the box and turned to the door and looked to Valerie "He was very interesting he actually had a nickname it was Excalibur."

As soon as Kia said his mentor's nickname Valerie's eyes opened widely and with a shaking voice said "He is dead?"

"Yeah" Kia said with a small smirk "He was like the father I never had."

At that moment Valerie looked up the stairs and said in a quick manner "I think they are wondering where I am." At that moment she disappeared going up the stairs.

Kia looked sort of puzzled but chose to ignore it and began up the stairs with the box in his hands. When he made it to the top, he found Maria and Lea going through the rubble finding anything that may have made it through the attack. Tatsuta and Cecaco a leopard demi human were on the far end of the structure speaking to some of the locals that lived in the now destroyed town. When he looked to see what Dante was doing, he found him still staring at the courtyard.

"Was that dragon trying to show off when he took that dump? In all honesty though I feel kind of challenged." Dante said, talking to himself.

Kia walked to the wagon and put the box he had in the hidden compartment he had underneath the seat where he also hid away his Grimoire. As Kia finished putting the box away to see Lea and Maria heading towards him "Hey ladies how's everything going?" Kia said with a smile.

"Not very good we weren't able to find anything that survived the attack we are very sorry." Lea said looking upset.

Kia looked to the both of them and gave off a chuckle "You two shouldn't feel bad about that something did survive and that's all I wanted to get from here." He then grabbed spare blankets he had in the back of the wagon and gave them to Lea and Maria "Lets get these blankets to the citizens so they don't get cold or anything. You joining us Dante?" Kia said looking to Dante who still hasn't moved a muscle.

"I swear am I the only one who is impressed right now I mean just look at it that thing deserves a gold star." Dante said completely blocking out Kia.

"We should just go we already lost him." Maria said as they began to walk to where Cecaco and Tatsuta were helping the citizens.

As the three of them drew closer to the citizens the citizens looked to Kia and all got big smiles on their faces and all yelled to him in joy. "We are so happy you're alright Kia. Where were you? Is everything okay?" The citizens all started to yell to Kia all at the same time.

"You seem very popular Kia." Lea said with a smirk.

"I wouldn't say popular they just all knew my mentor and since me and my mentor did jobs for people whenever they needed something it didn't only keep guilds from filling the streets but we worked for people for very little. In doing so they began to respect and trust our inputs on what they should do during tough times."

At that moment a little girl ran through the crowd of people and jumped into Kia's arms. "Kia I'm so happy you are okay." The girl said burying her face in Kia's chest.

Kia smiled and said "It is okay little one everything will be fine."

"What do you suggest we do Kia now that the village is burned down." A old man said stepping to the front of the group with a cane in hand.

Kia looked to the burnt down buildings and began to think on what they should do. After a moment Kia looked to the old man and said "Until the dragon is killed this area isn't safe, I want you all to go to Tarken and tell the mayor I asked for you all to stay there for a while I will worry about the expenses." Kia then grabbed put the little girl down and handed the bag of money he got from the mayor to the old man. "Tell him this is a payment in advance I will get him more later on."

The old man looked at the money and with sadness in his voice he said "Isn't this all your money where will you live how will you eat?"

Kia smirked and said "I got more don't worry about it now you all better get going before night falls things will be more dangerous." With that being said the citizens left the village on the way to Tarken. "Well we better get going also the king won't wait forever."

"That was all your money wasn't it master?" Tatsuta said as everyone looked at him.

Kia started walking and gave off a chuckle "They needed it more than I do besides I have my wagon and some of my stuff they lost everything I think they had it off a lot worse than I do." As Kia and everyone got to the wagon, they all began to load in Kia also noticed Valerie was already sitting down reading a book. He then looked to Dante and asked "Ready to go Dante?"

Dante without hesitation responded "Does anyone know how to paint we must capture this amazing sighting before we leave, I want it mounted on a wall."

"If you keep talking about that dragon poop, I will beat the image out of your head." Maria said with a fist formed. Everyone then laughed and set off to the capital.
